I was stabbed in the head with a broken bottle 2 years ago, unprovoked attack on a friend, I pulled my friend away when I saw the bottle and he smashed it on another guy's head and stabbed me in the back of the head with it.

Police were shite. Fucked about for ages to start, didn't believe me when I said I hadn't been drinking, haven't contacted me once since the initial incident, I've had to go chasing it all myself to find out what happened. When I did find out, I found that the police fucked up the paperwork, the court date was cancelled, and as far as I know, the guy who stabbed me in the head, a man who killed someone in 2003, is walking the streets. I have plenty of reason to dislike the police officers involved.

Yet because I am not a moron I don't apply that experience across all police officers.

With the police it's the coordinated tampering with evidence like we saw after Hillsborough or at Orgreave that shows you then nature of the organisation when push comes to shove. The vast majority of individual officers did join up to protect and serve I bet but as an institution it's still riddled with the same sort of problems and a culture of backing their own even when in the wrong.

Problems at an institutional level do not legitimise victimising individual officers such as the attack in this video. Doing so only hardens the divide between the police as an institution and the public. Treat the police with a healthy mixture of scepticism and respect. If you treat the police as scum, it is quite likely they will treat you the same back.

You want to change that culture, you break down the divide between police and public, and as much as that needs to be led by the police it also needs to come from how we interact with them.

I actually think all Police officers should carry a firearm nowadays, the threat from terrorists has never been higher. The people have spoken with Brexit and it's time to meet fire with fire.

RULE BRITANNIA !

Terrorists often use suicide vests, Johnny - shall we issue those to the police too so we can really "fight fire with fire"?

I tend to call them 'Homicide' vests worn by 'Homicide' killers.

So when Johnny's lad inevitably gets into bother with the police (and he will do as all kids do at some point) he'll be happy for his sons minor cheek to be responded with a firearm? Okey dokey.
