Looking back, I didn’t think Tranny were particular good, just a solid, organised and streetwise side that should always do well in this league.

This league is shit though.
They looked good when we played them, but other results suggest they have a soft underbelly and are generally just inconsistent.

Not too late for anyone else to come into it but the current top 5 look to me like the five decent and consistent teams in this division and barring a lot of changes in January will be the ones competiting for the automatic places.

Feel like we might miss out and have to settle for playoffs given our results against those teams, three points from four games.

To be fair on Notlob, today’s result could of been a different one had they anybody up front with the same quality of strikers teams like Crawley and Exeter have.
3-0 flatters us. Thought the decision for the penalty from the camera angle looked extremely harsh, but the ref was right on top of it.
Always good to send this lot packing with faces like slapped bottoms.

Happy Christmas.

I said we'd be in trouble if we played like we did midweek - turns out we didn't even play that well. Dreadful from us and credit to Barrow for giving us the battering we no doubt deserved.

It seems we don't like playing in December - we were shit last year as well.

you would not have experimented in midweek if you had a game......The bingo balls come out and its the first 11 that come out get selected. Quite looking forward to what Hill has got to say after the game.
Isgrove forced his way into the first team after several good cameo appearances in place of Crawford.
Gives us a better balance.
Doyle first goal Bolton 3 Birkenhead 1

that really really could have been a much bigger win - but very happy with 3-0. 6-0 wouldn't have been unfair - Cheltenham had a lot of the ball but didn't do anything with it. We handled the conditions far better and Cheltenham couldn't cope with Quigley at all and 2nd half when Josh Kay started running at the Cheltenham midfield and defence there was panic - the run he made setting up the Luke James shot (which Harrison Biggins scored from the rebound) summed that up.
A very very good day :)

Hope people that were getting on Hill’s back take a long hard look at themselves. He’s a solid manager and we’ll be fine under him. Getting on his back whenever we don’t get 3 points is piss poor behaviour imo.

Anyway... Only 3 off playoffs again!

You’re right but I think at this level, that does constitute a good side. Clearly some good players in that team too. They toyed with us for most of the game giving us all the possession knowing we weren’t troubling them.
We look really solid and calm some days, and then get taken to the cleaners the week after. I think to be classed as good you need to be consistent... we don't have that yet.

Grimsby committing 22 fouls and getting one booking is absolutely remarkable today, not sure how Holloway pulled that one off
Probably because none of your fouls were given. Shit game, but not as bad as you're making out. Like I said before was very similar to the same fixture last season. Thought we defended well though, all four of the backline and Macca dealt with everything. Pollock clear MOTM.

To be fair to Masi he’s always shown up on here win or lose. Got to respect that in all honesty.

Having just seen Askeys interview on our YouTube channel it seems his patience has run out with our defence. Reading between the lines at least one of Smith and Legge will be making way for Brisley or Crookes. Frankly I think both of them should. A message needs to be sent here and it should have come after the Bolton game to set the standard then.

Even the Bolton game had the warning signs, we were just lucky that day we were clinical but still conceded three, the third being awful (although was out).

We’ve gone from being solid and best defence in the league in the first 10 games but not looking like scoring to scoring loads, missing loads of chances still and conceding for fun. More open than a hookers legs.

Smith is an outstanding defender, especially at this level but he’s been absolutely shit since Tranmere. We’ve sent Clarke back to Leicester when Mills his having a mare. Legge is too old for all these games.

Thankfully Gibbo should be back in a few weeks.

Yet again as per last Saturday and to a degree against Bolton a side had made 3 or 4 changes and we’ve not reacted to it at all. Comical defending today, they were as bad if not worse but we’ve failed to punish them and it’s costing us. How Mills didn’t fire home that last minute shot from six yards il never know.

Glad Askey has finally lost his shit and rightfully blasted them but he should of done that weeks ago rather than the constant “we go again” “they give me everything” “they are an honest bunch” crap.

We’ve gone from one extreme to the other but need to find a happy medium of creating chances and taking them but still being solid, especially away from VP.

Huge game against Barrow now, must win that or Askey will be surely in trouble.

That was infinitely better than anything under McCall - controlled, structured, effective, as already said we should’ve scored four or five.
I didn’t think anyone could do anything given how bad the squad is but in just two games, two youth coaches have shown McCall up for how it should be done.

Surely Eoin Doyle is a better forward than the combined strike-forces of Crawley and Exeter...?

I watched that interview too but at what point does he look at himself? Walsall made 4 half time substitutes, Askey continuously refuses to make subs. Today we made 1 in 86 minutes.. we have 5 available and no matter what options are on the bench it isn’t easy competing against fresh legs. When you counter in this is the same week in week out, most of our key defenders are probably unfit, he should have been rotating weeks ago.

Makes little sense, Legge had a seizure 10 days ago and has played 3 games since, give the lad a rest.

Our attackers must be seething today. Hurst was outstanding again, his delivery is unbelievable, should of made it 4-2 and ended the tie mind, Conlon superb and Pope did well as did Rodders. It’s the second time we’ve scored 3 and lost now, it’s poor. Simply being let down at the back. Not sure what’s changed either? Solid as first 10 games! Same system we are playing, it’s the same back four that started the season too!

No more 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 thrashings then? :(

Well I guess it was fun times while it lasted eh. I'm sure that looking at the standings and seeing part time Carlisle Utd up there with the big boys must've felt nice. But this talk of relegation is just silly Carver. True that you lot were never going to go up this season but IMO there's just enough quality in the squad to finish above the bottom two sides.

Keep the faith buddy!
Yeah it was good while it lasted mate, but I can't see us imploding as much as you lot have.

I don’t think all blame can be put on Askey but when you look at it, we couldn’t score but we was solid, now we can score but concede ridiculous amounts. The ability is clearly there to defend (as early season shows) and we can clearly score (current form shows). We need to be finding a system that works to cater both at a more normal level. We’re at the wrong end of too many thrillers this season! At what point as fans can we feel like the games “comfortable”? I’m starting to get the impression that we go 2-0 up and everyone’s scratching their head because they didn’t plan for this so the game plan goes to shit and they don’t know what to do. Don’t get me wrong, the back four need to give their heads a wobble after today but I’m sick of seeing opposition fans saying we look a good side and results will come because frankly it’s the same shit different week at the minute
