it’s easy to say because we got promoted in it, but the standard of the top three in L2 last season was the best I remember, comfortably at that too.

We lost our best player and our third choice striker, who we let go because he wanted minutes and was behind Lee Gregory and Will Evans. FYI.
You say that but Crawley got promoted and lost 18 games.

It was good at the top (say five) but below that it was more a case of two or three decent players keeping the rest of the team going.

I admire your club and you will do extremely well to stay up. Because every time you get a decent manager or player you get picked off. Mind you there is no reason why you should'nt stay up.

That’s why I didn’t mention you!

Top three in their own league, MK also a good side just below, then riffraff.

Northampton fans....How's James Wilson doing for you? I noticed on a number of occasions he's been an unused substitute.
He came on for 4 minutes against Mansfield and I don't think he touched the ball. Before that I'm not sure he'd played a minute in the league. I don't think he was ever brought in to be first choice, but he has been pretty anonymous.

I wouldn’t have put us anywhere close to stockport or wrexham last season and it’s remarkable we were as close as we were to them given the respective budgets.

Wrexham were always going to be one of the best in recent times with that circus going on, and stockport had built well from the season before with a much bigger budget than us.

I’d have probably said it was those 2, then mansfield, MK, Bradford and Gillingham (clearly the latter 2 had a bad season for their budget/expectations.

(sound like a broken drum here, so apologies) that’s why we’re fortunate that the manager has got so many versatile players in the team - had we a less experienced/not as good manager we’d have been shagged with the injuries last season.

I’m certainly enjoying the ride of league 1 currently and to be 5th is quality (while it lasts) but we all know tougher times lie ahead.

This made me laugh - the welsh teams want to play in the English league, but want to play in the welsh cup

Id very much like to think the EFL/FA would veto any such request, i thought it was a joke originally.

Our game with Mansfield in two weeks has been pp because of call ups.

Probably the first of many.

Well done EFL, another home Saturday cancelled and another club playing catch up in fixtures.

I wanted to attend it, I know a group of about 10 that intended to but now cannot make it.

Annoying.

It's not automatic is it? Thought you had to request a postponement.

Ironically enough, we've just announced our game against Wrexham is off due to international call-ups.

EDIT - Just to add to the above r.e. requests, "The visitors, Lincoln City, have received the required number of call-ups to request a postponement, which has now been approved by the EFL.""

Yes, Mansfield have requested it. Such an international power house these days. Don't know how accurate it is, but someone reckons only one of the three started on Saturday

It’s Lucas Akins(Grenada), Keanu Baccus(Australia) and Ben Waine (New Zealand)

Akins was injured Saturday but is a mainstay of our side, Baccus started and Waine came on (our third choice striker and we play a front two) completely justified. Update that someone!

Just to add aswell they are all starters for their countries, Baccus played in the World Cup for Australia, Waine equalised in the last minute against USA in the last international appearance.

It still fucks us up because they come back too shattered to play in the next fixture anyway!

What international players do you have?
McKiernan (NI U21's), Roughan (ROI U21's), Duffy (ROI U21's), Hackett (St Lucia, although currently injured and due back in the next 2/3 weeks) and Cadamarteri (England U20's).

Suspect it's the first three who will be getting the call-ups.

Seems like one or two teams are crying out already for the international break. It will be a chance to get some time on the training ground and get a player or two back from injury.
This league gets no easier as the season goes on especially if you are still involved in cups.
Already it looks like Birmingham are already promoted and at the bottom end those struggling now are in for a long season.
Bolton, Huddersfield and Rotherham have under achieved this season, and Blackpool, Mansfield and Stockport have done better than i thought. The position to join Birmingham will i am convinced go on until the last week or so, the other 4 play-off places have a dozen teams realistically going all season to get a slot, but i think the 4 teams that relegated will come from the bottom 7 teams.....Out of those i think Orient will climb there way out

weren’t they around that last season?
Around there.

They started last season similar to how you have this season with a fairly kind fixture list to start the season and picking up early points.
