Our owner says he hopes to have a permanent manager in by the end of the week.

Makes me think someone was already in mind before today’s news. Maybe a case of jumping before being pushed for Bowyer as on the face of it, it does seem strange to be here for 3 years of turmoil and then leave just as we begin to stabilise to join another basket case club.

Possibly, Luke Imp. He's the new favourite, but only 5/2 so it's still very much up in the air.

The short-term aspect of the job seems to be diminishing the chances of Stendel, sadly. Can't understand why we can't give a longer term contract, but with clauses in it. It's 99% certain we'll be in league one next season so why not go from that standpoint?

It's looking increasingly like the Cowleys for us. So, what can we expect Imps fans?

There was a big thread about DC/NC in the league 2 forum so it's probably best to dig that out.

In short, different job for Pompey and more similar to Huddersfield rather than Lincoln in them having to manage expectations.

With us, he took over a sinking ship and pretty much ran the whole show which is what they'll do with your lot. Everyone bought into him after years of utter dross and I mean utter dross struggling in the National League. They were pragmatic - direct, aggressive and organised. They did struggle with Huddersfield in getting fans on their side and they didn't take to the brothers and their style of play. Great PR, DC knows how to work the media and will say all the right things in the press.

Big job for them after their Huddersfield experience which was a poor choice of club for them although it did make them rich men.

Why the hell would you go to Birmingham now ? Basket case of a club and get through managers too quick.
Strange decision from bowyer

Sounding more and more like it's Nigel Adkins coming in here.

Underwhelmed, disappointed, pissed off etc etc.

There's definitely something not right gone on. Worked with Ged Roddy at Reading, who supposedly had a fall out with Bowyer recently.

Sounds like jobs for mates all over again. Can't be arsed anymore.

The exposure we got in 2016/17 was great for the Club, but perhaps not so much for the Cowley's in hindsight. It helped build their profile don't get me wrong but people think that Cowley is a long ball manager based on limited viewing in 2016/17, where we had the best non-league target man up front who had scored 26 for us in the previous season. And it was never long ball anyway. It was well drilled direct patterns of play. There was no launching the ball aimlessly and hoping for the best - long ball football doesn't score you 100+ goals in each of his three full seasons.

He's not a total football kinda guy don't get me wrong and he's not one for having his defence piss about with the ball at the back but we had some very good attacking play as the squad evolved. In his first season it was high press, high energy, rock 'n' roll type football where it was about making the opposition make mistakes but that evolved. He's big on full back and wingers working together and you'll find that he'll balance the starting XI off i.e. you'll not have both full backs flying forward at the same time or necessarily pair an attacking full back with and out and out winger who has no interest in tracking back.

He was excellent for us transfer wise, we probably only had a couple of duds and he sorted them out quite quickly. We sold a lot of players for fees, which I suppose is easier to do when you're in successful sides. The problem they'll start facing is Chairmen wanting DoF's etc, and that's where there was a clash at Huddersfield having been given assurances they'd have full control. The Huddersfield job was a difficult one and the wrong choice, as most of us said at the time, but he still got them to what would have been a mid-table finish over a full season with them only on 1 point when he went in and hardly scoring goals never mind winning games.

You'll probably not have an out and out goal scorer either, he likes them spread around so if your striker doesn't score for 15 games it's not that big a issue as long as he's still giving something to the team.

A big game manager as well, we had an incredible record in big games over the 3½ years.

He's great with the media but you'll rarely hear from Nicky.

I must say, I did look at the Portsmouth squad and thought it was one in a Cowley mould and one he would like albeit I'm not 100% clued up about them all. John Marquis is right up his street, and he knows Sean Raggett from signing and selling him here. He'll love the Portsmouth story, picking them up below their natural level, good atmosphere at Fratton Park, decent budget, decent core of players who've underperformed or had the handbrake put on them.

Probably more I could add but a) you've probably not read this far and b) I need to do some work!

Thanks Guernica and Luke Imp. Much appreciated.

Our fan base generally seem ok with the appointment. I think we're all interested to see how it pans out. It sounds like we're not keen on fully committing to a proper deal at the moment which is frustrating. It's just until the end of the season at the moment which is a bit half-arsed.

They'll probably be given the brief to get us into the play offs, and get a longer contact off the back of that. Won't be easy as we're barely registering a shot at the moment. Hats off if they manage it.

Theres nothing more to add from what the others have put really. I agree completely that its not long ball and hopeless, it can be direct but damn effective. Im sure he'll do a great job if appointed and players like Raggett fit into his mould perfectly.

Ive seen Nicky Cowley a few times walking/ jogging with his family over the past months. Im sure hes ready to get back into football!

Looks like our game away at Oxford will unfortunately be going ahead live on Sky. :sur:

I say unfortunately as we'll be without Brennan Johnson and when you add that to those already missing through injury leaves us really short.

You'll be fine as we lose when on Sky.

A group of investors from Indonesia want a controlling stake in Oxford United.
A number of these have been involved in the initial takeover before and it is likely this has been the plan all along.

Hopefully this is getting everything in order ready for a stadium move...

Exciting...

This had been in the offing for some time (told off the record by a Sports Reporter a couple of months ago). Tiger was essentially a front man shorter term and ultimately the handshake agreement was always such that Erick and his partners would eventually assume control. That plan was originally slated to be executed about 12 months ago however it was Tiger that wanted more time to see if he could make it work...

KR also had to be convinced to stay after the playoff final. He wanted to throw in the towel only to have to be convinced by Tiger to give it another crack.

There. That’s all I was told and I know absolutely nothing else!

Simon Grayson has penned a long term contract with the club, along with David Dunn. Happy with this, giving the club stability and enabling Grayson to plan for summer transfers, in and out. He is giving our academy players plenty of opportunities already in the first team and expect this to continue

On Monday night our under 18's lost on penalties to Bristol City in the F A Youth Cup 4th round. It was a terrific game, credit to both sides and the quality on display was very good. Equally our under !8's are currently top of the Youth Alliance League and a testament to the structure which the Chairman has been building over a number of years

I hope Fleetwood fans realise how fortunate they are at the progress being made at the club

John Sheridan just stated that if we kept more clean sheets this season we would have won more games. The man is a genius!

Would like to see if anyone has a worse record than this over the past few season. And years since your last promotion. We haven’t been promoted since 99/00

No wonder our pitch has been so bad this season!

Just another thing in a catalogue of nonsense we have had to put up with this season!
