Improved or weakened? In the Covid season we were unbeaten at home until fans were allowed in. Then we lost our first two with fans there.

I think larger away followings = better performances is largely a myth.
agreed

In terms of the Reading game Vale confirmed at the fans forum last night they were told Thursday no issues, it would be fine and completed on the day and advised again Friday it would probably have disruption but would be fine, so Vale did try and get clarity on the situation prior and how it would be dealt with/play out.

Tomorrows front page (admittedly the sun!) massiveness and exclusive that Robbie Williams is set to try and buy Vale with a Wrexham style Netflix likely as part of it.

Fair play.
I met him once years back when I went to Chris Evans' TFI Friday show and he was pretty much skint.

Wish I was as “skint” as him!

Could be rubbish. Good exposure for the club regardless, seems if true he is being backed by a consortium so the question would be who is the consortium, Ian Donaldson maybe who he’s close to and has put a lot into the club via sponsorship and loans?

We’ve had Reading, Brazier to Barcelona, fan chasing a referee, RW el Presidente and now front page of the sun all in a few weeks… it’s been a weird spell!

Netflix were filming at him becoming President on Friday, so there could be something in it.
They missed out on some of the drama's down the years, Smurf and the taxi, Horsfield and Gannon on the Coach, The failed Ryder take over and him handing Micky Adams a bag full of cash to pay for the pre season trip before vanishing from the face of the earth to name a few!

Wrexham got big money for the Netflix thing didn't they so that alone might be worth it.

Given that all refs instinctively hate Vale, wouldn't he be better off just investing all that cash in massive bungs for each and every ref in the FL so that their natural hatred and bias against Burslem's finest is magically converted to love and giving all decisions PVFC's way? You'll shoot up the leagues.

"And through it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll, refs offer Vale protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether we're right or wrong"

This was many moons ago when he was trying to rebuild his career. Obviously done very well since!

Bullshit story.
The sun doing what the sun do.
Who know's, the Vale statement doesn't really say anything denying the Press Articles, it just says they haven't had a bid or discussed it but the article doesn't say they have got that far yet just that they are preparing it.

I mean. Sentimentally it would be fantastic, and the publicity great - but if he loses interest then what happens.
I think it’s a non story anyway.
Stick with what you have.

Turns out Jack Diamond got sick abuse from Leyton Orient fans at the match the other day joking about when he was falsely accused of being a rapist even after he was rightly cleared.

Bunch of scummy fans. Think Orient should be made to apologise and even be fined as this has tarred their reputation as a club.

Bit rich coming from a Carlisle fan.

Not sure how much interest there is, especially as it's Cheltenham-centric, but my mate and I got to interview Darrell Clarke on Thursday evening:

Your lot are going well, is this finally the year the hubris of the Mansfield fans is justified?

You don’t have to tell a Northampton fan that it’s not done until it’s done…

We do have a good squad, but i think it’s only really stockport who could confidently say they’re going to go up, everyone else keeps tripping over each other.

We’re trying to follow the orient blueprint of last season by not conceding many and going from there.

Our winger Theo Archibald is out for 9 months at the very least after picking up a serious knee injury at Port Vale last week.

He has no ACL in his knee and apparently will need a big operation to reconstruct his knee - There is a chance he might have to retire apparently too if the operation doesn't fix the problem.

Huge shame for him, he's done well overall for us the last three seasons and fits into Wellens style of play.

He's out of contract in the summer too, so no idea what will happen with him.

Don’t recall the incident that forced him off but huge blow to the lad that, hopefully he can get through it and come back. Pretty much the worst injury you can do.

Jarred his leg when running, no other players involved. Was sadly one of those accidents which happens.

Oli Arblaster on the bench for Sheffield United today, in a poor season that’s one huge positive to have seen him in the Vale shirt and looks set to become the Premier League footballer we all said he’d be.

Best footballer I’ve seen in the black and white since the days of Steve Guppy et al.

On paper it’s simply down to going up far too early…….Simpson came in with the club almost certainly heading into the conference regardless of what he actually did this gave the fanbase an enormous lift and mood of club changed to a surge of positive passion.

That tsunami of energy changed the players workrate and attitude, brought miles better out of them than in other seasons (look at Dennis and Patrick for us last year to now with tranmere\sutton.

Add in a couple of cheap, but spot on players in summer (moxon and Huntington) and we just rode a crest of wave to promotion……….it is still on the whole at best an average L2 side.

Then limited budget in summer, gambled on a few injury prone or older players with more L1 experience, none have delivered and the lack of quality has shown.

They still battled hard for a while but once takeover happened all that has been shouted at the players since is ‘get rid, not good enough, but better’ from either manager, new owners and especially fanbase and well no surprise really since that fight has just evaporated.

Now they are stuck in position of do they remove manager to start fresh in L2 or go with view Simpson is victim of having enormous success last season and deserves a good with a now much much larger budget (I’d expect us maybe top spenders in summer)

Promotion was far too early with us, but as you’ll know at Mansfield you have to take that promotion if it comes you cannot assume you may go up next year or season after because clubs have spent…..Mansfield and Bradford come to mind and never went up.

Oh and I should show the other side of the coin as I’m in the back Simpson for next season group.

Simpsons tactics and style may work well in L2 but badly fail here, he wasted his summer budget on crocks and poor loan payers.

He has wasted the improved January budget on either more crocks or players who could make an impact in L2 but we’re never going to make an instant impact in L1.

Defence has never been sorted, attack has been non existent or injured all season, his scouting network consists of Bradford and Palace players and them who he read in newspaper Wrexham wanted and he isn’t able to look like turning it around.

Our wage bill has been confirmed at 45% of our revenue - not sure how anyone expects us to compete at that level!
