I see the FA have thrown out the proposals for Wales' EFL clubs to be in a Welsh domestic cup to get into Europe.

Good.
Agreed. I think most Wrexham fans agree too.
Side note: Shrews & Jester used to play in the welsh cup years ago, but weren't allowed to play in Europe if they won the competition...

It also wouldn’t be fair for the welsh teams either, despite what TNS did, the average side in that league would be conference north/south (at best) sticking Cardiff and Swansea in the cup for instance would be crazy.

There was a conspiracy from Mansfield fans on twitter saying why are we always at home at Xmas. Lo and behold we're going to be playing away fella for a little bit. Mind boggles. Apart from 1 game scheduled at home in Feb which is PP due to Orient cup game, its something like 8 out of the next 11 away.
Can't recall exactly, but up to last week we were something like 12 away out of the last 17.

I agree. It's a nonsense unless you let the winners of the County cups qualify for Europe too.
The point of it was to pump more much needed money into the Welsh system, the 4 clubs in the English system weren't to benefit financially as all profits were to be distributed across all clubs.

There's zero benefit for the FA however, and bitter resentment from supporters of English clubs so it was never being signed off.

Would it have involved you not taking part in the league or FA cup? If so, seems fair enough. If not, cake, having, eating, comes to mind

No, we'd take part in those competitions but couldn't qualify for Europe through them. Effectively they'd become our county cups.

There's definitely a valid argument to be had around having our cake and eating it, but English football isn't a fair playing field as it is. If it was, money would trickle down more fairly from the top and we wouldn't be ditching FA Cup replays for a few clubs to play more games in Europe.

It wasn't exactly fair that we very nearly lost our club because of a handful of arseholes with no interest in the sport seeking profit from our demise, and that fans had to find £200k in a day to pay a bond to the National League to stay in the competition.

This initiative is there to benefit the Welsh system, which the English obviously don't give a shit about. In that essence, I couldn't give 2 shits about what you English fans would think of us getting this pathway.

Wide of the mark, here. The majority wanted it and why wouldn't they?
Bc it's a shit cup.
Most I spoke to about it were against it. Some saw the word 'Europe' ...and were all for it, but some the teams in it (with the odd exception) I've never even heard of...Borac Banja Luka v Olimpija Ljubljana sounds meaty in the next round...

I'd love to travel to Ljubljana to watch Wrexham.

I've never been, but I've been to Sarajevo with Wales and the Bosnians are very hospitable, we really enjoyed our time there.

Sometimes, the countries you don't often think of going to often end up making for excellent trips.

Some linked to the firms mentioned are subject of this article - https://theuglygame.wordpress.com/2...he-tommy-robinson-supporting-twitter-account/
The club chair Preston Johnson has called a fans forum for Thursday which will be live streamed.

The Khalili Brothers are the younger (twin) sons of Sir Nasser Khalili. A London based property developer and substantial collector of Abrahamic art, especially Islamic art.

Strange bedfellows for the far right. I know nowt though.

L1 accounts starting to appear.

A £2.9m loss last season for us, but that doesn't include the sale of Jensen to Millwall (£500k-ish). Mentioned it a few weeks back but confirmation that our budget last season was mid-table and even with an increased budget this season, we're now bottom 6. To maintain our budget position we'd have to have increased it by 67%, which is mental. Basically income for most L1 Clubs has flatlined but overheads/wages keep increasing at a far, far faster rate.

We're effectively debt free, there's about £500k owed to supporters as part of a bond issue for the Stacey West Redevelopment but that's it and will be down to £350k next year.

Only other ones I've seen:

Leyton Orient - £3.7m loss
Bristol Rovers - £6.2m loss

I shudder to think what ours will be, especially when you see what I consider to be a relatively sensible club like Orient making that kind of loss.

Even worse for the Gas, spunking that amount of cash up the wall to little effect.

We won't make a loss, we can't. Which will mean us being in the bottom three or four for budgets for quite a while (at least until we get relegated). Depressing stuff

This is where we are. But we’ll make a loss and still be bottom 4 for budgets. The league is going the same way as the championship.

Interesting podcast called Business of Sport where they have had CEO from League 1 clubs on. I think the Lincoln CEO said they would be losing £60k per week. Orient losing £65k per week. Orient balance sheet -£18 million.
There are 3 promotion spots with 12 teams gambling on going up! The Charlton CEO said their playing budget was between £5-7 million. It's ok if someone is prepared to stump up for the shortfalls.

It is getting unsustainable amounts.

Thing is, if the likes of Lincoln or Orient go up it will be even worse in the Championship. £7mn will get you nowhere there

The money being spent now in League 1 is crazy and not sustainable in the slightest. Shrewsbury still not released our 2023-24 accounts (which the CEO said would be released by the end of December but not actually due until March), but we made our biggest ever loss in 22-23 of £3m and our highest ever wage bill of £5.2m in that season. Both are still below the league 1 average. Last season there were supposed to cutbacks in the wages.

The chairman always ran the club with a view of retaining enough cash reserves for the following season. Once covid hit and the Premier League funding hadn't been agreed, those reserves were depleted, and he hasn't got the personal funds to keep things going. We were lucky with some good cup runs and Premier league clashes in recent years to boost the coffers, which is why getting knocked out by Salford was terrible. Hurst described our budget as mid league 2. We've generally been looking down the table in our 10 year stay in league 1 rather than the top, but most of the time there's been a bit of a basket case or some of the promoted teams below us. This year, Wrexham, Stockport and Mansfield have far bigger budgets than us, which has reduced teams at our level financially.

We sold Bloxham to Blackpool for a rumoured £300k, which Ainsworth is saying he won't see the cash as it's being used towards running costs. Given the sums being banded about for other forward players in this league, it looks like we jumped at the first low offer we received.

We clearly need a takeover to be competitive at this level now, but you're then at the whim of a benefactor wanting to keep funding the club. There's no benefit in trying to run a sustainable club at this level.

I’m still not sure how we got to the championship, and Yeovil for that matter. In reality the chance of small clubs achieving this again diminishes by the year.
I think it is why football is losing some appeal for people and they are moving down the pyramid for their fix.
It’s a largely unsustainable model for many clubs playing roulette wheel with money they do not have.
