Interesting to see what ours looks like when it comes out. We have a couple of very good players (Adelakun and Holmes) out of contract who won't sign a new deal now we haven't gone up. We will get a tribual fee for Adelakun when he leaves which probs won't be much. Theres some solid players like Tom Hopper who's contract is up and we most likely end up leaving.

The sad part is cloggers like Rory McArdle, Lee Novak and Josh Morris still have one (two in Rory's case) years left on their contracts. Morris decieves with his occasional worldie so we will probs scam some club out of some money for him. Novak and McArdle will be on too much to pay off.
Morris did sweat FA for us, couldn’t believe the season he had last season. No chance it would ever last, McArdle was fantastic for us for years but was getting on.

Not to start an argument but are you a.little concerned that two of those three strikers you name have been very average in league 1 previously.

Which 2? Hylton has only played a total of 2 League 1 matches from looking at Wikipedia, and has improved his goal output here considerably in comparison to previous clubs, he just seems to fit here. Collins is pretty much a pure finisher, if you create chances he will generally put them away, if you dont he wont do much, and seems to have had a couple of ok looking League 1 seasons. Thats why im more concerned about the midfield.

Lee has never really had a decent run anywhere in his career really, and has the better goals/minutes ratio than either Hylton or Collins I believe last season, and has improved considerably since his first spell here I think.

During pre season the general feeling was a lot of clubs wanted Jackett, Thompson, Mcgee and Pitman and Pompey got all of them.

Ours has been released now

Leaving at the end of their present contracts: Neal Bishop, Tom Hopper, Luke Williams, Andrew Crofts, Jonathon Margetts, Jack Dyche.

Options exercised: Conor Townsend, Duane Holmes, Lewis Butroid.

Offered new contract: Hakeeb Adelakun.

Under contract next season: Matt Gilks, Jordan Clarke, Murray Wallace, Funso Ojo, Sam Mantom, Josh Morris, Clayton Lewis, Lee Novak, Charlie Goode, Cameron Burgess, Levi Sutton, Rory McArdle, Kyle Wootton, Rory Watson, Adam Kelsey.

Offered first professional contract: George Hornshaw.

Didn't realise we had the oppurtunity to extend Holmes' contract. Means we should get some money for him which is good. Adelakun will go in a tribual. Rest I am not too bothered about.

Definitely a veteran, but since he made 30-odd appearances last season, could Neal Bishop be an option as "minder" for our young midfield. Hmm...

I wouldn't want him if I was you. He cannot pass to save his life, he can win a few tackles but will kill any attack you have.

Ah yes, I remember his "if it moves, kick it" partnership with Mr Ravenhill. Maybe not, then!

Gillingham
Gillingham have offered new contract to the following players.

GABRIEL ZAKUANI CD

Our defence improved by 24 goals compared with last season, and he was the main reason for the improvement along with Keeper Holy.

BEN NUGENT CD

Backup defender who was steady when called upon.

BRADLEY GARMSTON LB

Lightning quick fullback. I understand that the club feel his hamstring issues are behind him, now his running mechanics have been altered.

MARK BYRNE CM

Won all the POTY awards. hardworking midfielder needs more creativty alongside him next season.

NOEL MBO CF

Young powerful forward

BRADLEY STEVENSON AM

Talanted attacker

DARREN OLDAKER CM

Might look to move on as not used much despite showing lots of ability. Doubts over his workrate and and decision making

ELLIOTT LIST W

Pacy winger, who flattered to deceive before grabbing two goals at end of season. Which probably earned him more time to develop.

BEN CHAPMAN CM

Young holding midfielder

AARON SIMPSON LB

Young left back, who did well on loan at Margate.

FINN O'MARA

Tough young versatile defender

TOM HADLER

Promising reserve goalkeeper who impressed out on loan

NAVID NASSERI AM

Attacking midfielder who scored on debut and showered plenty of ability, while looking a bit light weight.

Youth team players Leroy Hlabi CF, Jack Tucker CH, Ryan Huckle CH, Louie Catherall GK and Henry Woods CM have all been offered one year pro contracts.

The following players will not have their contracts renewed:

GREG CUNDLE CF

Rated for his finishing, but lack of size and pace will probably see him play in non league

JAKE HESSENTHALER CM

Honest pro who will be a good signing for someone in lg2.

LEE MARTIN CM

Good pro who come back from horrible injury last season. Would do a good job at lower end lg1.

AARON MORRIS CM\CH\RB
Highly talented utility player, who failed to kick a ball for us during a 2 year contract due to 2 different knee injurys. Good league 1 player if fit.

FRANCK MOUSSA CM

Signed in Jan to fill out squad, got very little game time.

RHYS MURPHY
Signed in Jan to fill out squad, got very little game time.

SCOTT WAGSTAFF RW

Played less than half the game over his 2 year contract. Worked hard but goal \assist return was very disappointing given his previous record in this division

Connor Ogilvie (very average LB from Spurs) and Callum Reilly (CM from Bury who we want back) have returned to their parent clubs following respective loan spells.

The following players are under contract for next season:

TOMAS HOLY GK

Giant Czech keeper, was a revelation last season. Dominant in the air and a good shot stopper. Last year of his contract, doubt we will be able to keep him for long.

LUKE O’NEILL RB

Excellent signing from Southend. Solid in defence and our main supply line to the forwards.

ALEX LACEY CH

4th choice CH. Injured for a lot of the season. Might be available for transfer if he does not get back onto the bench ahead of Nugent.

MAX EHMER CH

Different player alongside the steady Zakuani instead of the erratic Oshilaja. Just signed an extended deal.

BILLY BINGHAM CM

Did well for us before getting injured for the season. Missed his shielding of the defence and ability to retain the ball under pressure.

TOM EAVES CF

Signed with little far fair. Went onto being one of the top scorers in the league. Hard working and a real menace to defenders.

CONOR WILKINSON CF

Showed glimpses of ability but generally disappointed. Attitude started off poor but gradually improved. Might be available for transfer if we sign a replacement.

JOSH PARKER CF\W

A real find for us. very hard working, physical and adaptable. scored some useful goals. Better as a wide forward.

LIAM NASH CF

Forward signed from non league. Showed some ability in first few appearance but then faded. Hopefully was just adjusting to being full time, but perhaps just a gamble who has not worked.

So you got relegated, but have no room for manoeuvre?

Sorry mate but I don't understand the question.

Our squad is pretty much ready made for League One. Add a few more players in defence and get another keeper in coupled with getting the right manager for the job and I think we have good reason to be optimistic.

You never know though. New manager might want to overhaul the whole squad and our new owners are an unknown quantity at the minute. We could end up doing a Coventry.

Alex Mowatt did not impress at ours on loan. He was just too slow. Good luck to him but I wouldn't want him back.

As in you can't have a clear out of a squad who clearly weren't good enough this season.

Weren't good enough in the Championship you mean. The squad is stacked with League One or equivalent experience. Add to that they've been playing against a better quality of player in general for the past year then I don't think we have any reason to be alarmed. Besides that our owners are minted so if they want rid of someone and we can't find a buyer then they probably won't shirk at paying up a contract or two.

Maybe more one for Scunthorpe fans but I guess yourself too, has Cameron Mcgeehan been any good since leaving us?

My concern was his broken leg would affect him quite a lot. (also my feeling on him was that he was too focused on scoring goals to the negative of other things you might expect from a midfield player - but interested to hear how he is doing)

Not seen enough of him to make a solid judgement but the little we have seen I would say he'll be an asset at this level. Reckon he'll get a lot more game time next season.

Didn't play enough for us to judge. Two of our best players played in his position so he couldn't get in. Came on sat behind the striker a few times and looked okay but not amazing.

The only surprise is the Shop getting offered a new contract.

A real shame for Joe Riley in the recent very sad circumstances for him and his partner, but understandable with two other right backs contracted to the club. I hope Joe can find a good club soon.

How did Gnahoua do for you this season? Noticed he wasn't involved in the playoffs at all has he not made the step up?

He did okay, particularly earlier in the season when he scored some key goals. Notably the winner at Doncaster.

Later in the season he seemed to struggle for form and Abo Eisa, who was signed from Wealdstone in the January window, was preferred in the latter stages of the season.

The talent is definitely there though and he's one that is well worth keeping for a bit longer to see if he can develop some more. To be fair any winger at the club had a hard job dislodging Whalley and Rodman who were both exceptional this season.
