Kristian Dennis of Chesterfield has signed for Notts County, bit weird as I thought we would be back in for him after we failed miserably to sign him in Jan. I’m sure we no longer wanted him and it’s nothing to do with getting outbidded by clubs in the league below...

“Failed miserably” - we had a deal worth £150k accepted and terms agreed with the player, then Chesterfield pulled the plug because Dennis’ replacement (JCH) signed for Cov instead. ‘Bit harsh, that.

If he was a genuine target sounded out then why leave it until an hour before the deadline.

Haha - we had tabled 3 bids by the time the 4th was accepted. Chesterfield never once gave us an asking price because they didn’t REALLY want to sell.

We were perusing Dennis at the start of Jan.

Chesterfield are in a fucking mess financially, if you couldn't tempt him away from a sinking ship I'd be worried.

What’s worse, losing your only hope of staying in the football league by retaining your best player, or losing out on your number one replacement should said player leave?

Formerly, it was Chesterfields worse nightmare. Latterly, it was ours.

It made financial sense for Chesterfield to keep Dennis on their books - the cost of dropping out of the football league outweighs our £150k offer.....but you already know that, don’t you.

Another transfer target for us revealed as centre midfielder Luke Hyam just been released from Ipswich over 100 appearances for them though aged 26. TractorBoys any good?

Would be a fantastic signing for you if you can keep him fit.

Loves a strong tackle.

I wish him well, if you sign him you'll have a player that always gives 100% and is up for every match (when fit).

So to summarise the rumours on our side...

Andrew Shinnie - signed on Thursday
Sonny Bradley - long term target but obviously has a lot of suitors.
Alex Mowatt - not sure where this one has come from? A lot of Championship games and not so long ago he was Leeds' players' and fans player of the season so he can clearly play. Seems to have lost his way a bit?
Hiram Boateng - based on an agent (his agent?) on Twitter saying he wants out of Exeter
Jack Baldwin - everyone's favourite chairman not denying there have been bids
Stevie Mallan - another midfielder from Barnsley. Similar background to Shinnie it seems, if far less experienced.

I'd argue say if we signed 4 out of that 6, we'd be in a very strong position for League 1.

Certainly wasn't impressed with Mowatt. Technically seems a decent player but soooo slow. Apart from the odd spell in games didn't really impress in any position and we tried him in the no.10 role, wide midfield and central midfield (in a 2 and diamond).

Playing under Pep Clotet may not have helped but then he wasn't much better under Karl Robinson. There must be a player in there as he played plenty for Leeds in the Championship, but maybe to do that he needs the players around him to do the running etc. He can take a good free-kick.

Also, I doubt Mowatt will be a cheaper option even should Barnsley want to offload him.
He only played 4 times for Oxford, right? Hardly enough time to form an opinion.

This makes it worse to me, we’ve put 3 bids in and I’m betting a couple were derisory. Would imagine the same happened with Mellor at Blackpool but even Blackpool were in a position to tell us to stop messing about much earlier.

:bg: you mean the Twitter "agent" who is also claiming that John Terry is about to sign for Man Utd and that Danny Rose is leaving Mansfield because he's been shagging the chairman's bird?

It's a parody account.

Oh, I almost forgot; there were lengthy delays in responding to our bids.

BUT, it all just boils down to the fact that some supporters just LOVE to get on the clubs back, doesn’t it?

Would say most supporters are getting on the clubs back at the moment. If ‘getting on the clubs back’ is basically running a critical eye over things.

I genuinely feel they’re very much in the minority, but with very loud voices thanks to beautiful invention that is social media - that’s all.

Some of the repetitive drivel being spouted from some corners, with the sole intention of stirring as much shite as possible, really is becoming tedious beyond comprehension.

Would say most City posters on here are pretty level headed even if you don’t agree with them and there isn’t much enthusiasm for Rahic. Not sure what you’re getting at really as I’d love Rahic and us to be a success, also said numerous times in last couple of weeks that I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt over the summer. I actually think we just didn’t want to pay for Dennis at 150k which I probably agree with. Was just a tongue in cheek comment afterwards.

Yep that account is clearly bollocks.

Boateng is under contract for another couple of years and although it wouldn’t shock me if he wanted to move up a level, I suspect he will give us another season at least. Especially now we have appointed Matt Taylor as manager who has been coaching him all season.

Town keeper Craig McGillivray linked with a move to Pompey despite having been offered a new contract.

It would be a shame to see him go. He would have played far more often last season had it not been for the exceptional form of Dean Henderson and when he did play he performed very well. I would have been quite happy with Craig as our first choice keeper next season.

Rochdale fans would you be surprised and sad if Joe rafferty was on his way out the door. Or neither of those..

What happened to the keeper Pompey all loved?

McGee is a promising young keeper - a good shot stopper but did make a few howlers last season. A couple of them were Karius-standard.

I reckon he'll drop down to number two for us next season but his time will come.

Best keeper in the league I think we were told at the beginning of last season?

Happy with that.. not bad dealings so far imo. Anton Walkes will be good to get over the line. Need a solid CM and a half decent striker in case Pitman gets injured.

Southend the latest name mentioned in for Sonny Bradley. If he went there or Luton it would be a proper kick in the bollocks. Clubs we should definitely be looking to finish above next season.

Can add our name to the list of clubs after Sonny Bradley. Was linked to him last year also but again can’t see us having much succes.

Not by me, Bobbin. I'd never seen him play?

I think we all have posters who get a bit over-excited by new signings.

Bit surprised, as he's under contract. Presumably, we'd want a fee.

Also sad, as he's a pretty good player. Solid a Right Back, gets forward well if played at Right Wing Back, can also do a job as a holding midfielder.

Who's after him, then?

Not sure if there’s any Peterborough fans here but they have signed Matt Godden today.

Had a great season 2 seasons ago but wasn’t as effective this as far as I can tell. Got surpassed by Newton to an extent. Could be a Marriott replacement though?

Also this Sonny Bradley stuff is a bit odd. Very strange selection of clubs supposedly after him, at least to me in any case. Is he actualy any good? Sounds like agent talk to drum up interest or a better contract
