I could think of lots of ways to spend £500k on than James Hanson. He's not even that profilic is he?

He's got hardly any footy talent, just a massive brute who is a handful for defenders and might get between 10 and 15 a year. Would be delighted if we get 500k for him.

Not seen anything our side to suggest we are going for him, other than some twitter rumours. Wouldn't be overly disappointed to sign him as he looked good vs us last year, but 500k does seem a little steep.

If anyone had bothered to do any sort of research they'd know that we're not 'going for it' this season -- the focus is on bringing through the youth, with a view to challenging in a year or two. If we challenge next season, it will be despite our plans not because of them.

Oh and we do need someone in the Hanson mould so that Gregory and/or O'Brien can focus on scoring goals.

Dean Cox linked again. Would be very surprised if we weren't seriously interested. Think he'd be an excellent signing.

Possible I reckon. Orient owners want to kill off their wage bill and Cox is apparently on good money. We are probably one of the few who might take on his wages as they stand and he wouldn't even need to move house. More likely than half a million on Hanson anyway.

I think the majority of League 1 clubs would love to sign Dean Cox. Millwall seems a likely destination given everything.

Been tweeted by the local paper up here that you have bid for him but it's been turned down. They are basically the public relations arm of the club so it won't be rumours.

makes sense then. We'd keep it quiet to prevent a bidding war whilst you would want precisely the opposite. I think its very unlikely that we'll end up signing him.

I don't think you'll sign him because we ridiculously overhype him and our asking price will be way too much for what he is.

We've just signed Jack King on a free transfer from Preston.

I assume we'll be playing him as a CB. Not sure if he's any good but he can't be much worse than our current ones.

Jack King is a decent player at this level, his best position is as a defender imo but he's better in a back three as he's a bit too casual and can get caught out sometimes, especially as he has zero pace.

Played as a targetman when he first arrived and was useful without being much of a goal threat and he had an excellent game in midfield against Norwich this season in a 'spoiling role'. Good player to have in your squad and I thought he might get another year with his wages being on the low side but this is probably for the best.

We've signed Ryan Jackson from Newport. Right back who can play wing back too. It's a position we need strengthening, so promising - can't say I know anything of him though.
He played against us home and away last season and for me was the stand out player for Newport each game. Obviously Edinburgh rates him so I would say you have a good signing there.

I think McLaughlin is basically just a matter of time before being announced. I'd be surprised if he didn't want to come to us after his loan spell a couple of years back. We wouldn't pay either of the others enough money and Smith won't play with 2 natural forwards..so Delfouneso won't want to come and play second fiddle to Bradshaw. Sawyers and Ledesma in the same squad...hmmm.

Sam Ling is a possibility, although, I haven't heard anything about him other than he's Martins son.

That's encouraging, thanks. Having said that I don't really know how good Newport are, so they could just be a team of no-hopers!

No chance of Ledesma. Was quality for us and on 7k a week at Boro apparently.

Yeah I agree, he's a Championship player through and through. He's far too good for this league, pretty much sums up the shite rumours that come about every season.

Come to think about it, we haven't been linked with Darius Vassell or Kevin Phillips yet... I better get on it. It's tradition.

At times in the season just gone, it felt like our only tactic was 'give the ball to Jacko'!

You've got yourselves a good player in my view . Very exciting to watch going forward, quick, direct and a good long throw on him too. I would say he worked better for us as a wing back in a 5-3-2/3-5-2 rather than a 4-4-2.

Sorry to see him go but was not a huge surprise. I really hope he does well for you - if not, let us have him back please!

According to our forum we'll be signing Sam Ricketts. How was he for you Swindon fans?

Pretty disappointing to be honest. An important goal at Bramall Lane in the play-offs aside, his temporary switch to STFC was a bit of a disaster.

@jackking4: Don't worry @SUFCOfficial fans...,I'm crap at football but I'll build you a lovely new stadium

Good player to have in your squad as SF said as he can play pretty much anywhere. Remember him being MOTM away at top of the league Donny in a 3-1 win playing at RB in first season!

Toward's the end of the season we were crying out for an experienced defender to see us through to promotion.

We signed Sam Ricketts and he sounded perfect, could play anywhere across the back or in midfield if required.

Since he signed, we went to shit, not totally his fault but goal at sheffield United aside he wasn't the best loan signing we've ever had, bit harsh to come into a promotion chasing side and learn to play the way we do, but it just didn't happen for him.
