No-one knows for sure, local journo has said there is more in his paper tomorrow so may find out then.

I believe initially we were under a "soft embargo" which we were placed under in January whereby we could only spend based on last years budget, so can sign players providing we move some on etc. It seems that once the EFL announced that 3 people had failed the owners and directors test we were placed on a full embargo, now that those 3 have seemingly been removed from the club and we have reverted back to previous ownership we've also reverted back to the soft embargo and presumably these two have been funded due to the out of contract and loan players leaving plus the outgoing sales which I'm sure will follow shortly.

All speculation of course, there could also be more going on in the background we don't know about.

The fact there is literally no communication from the club at all to try and clarify anything at all makes it all the more troubling.
Do you sense that you have moved from the frying pan into the fire?

Centre Half Joe Walsh signs following end of MK Dons contract.

Seems to be a good signing if we can keep him fit.

Would expect Cian Bolger be on the move out.

Being linked with Omar Beckles who has turned down a new contract at Shrewsbury.

I would be surprised if we pulled this one off. He seems to be one of the better defenders in league 1, and I’m sure he will be on bigger clubs radar.

Brandon Hanlan linked, Gills fans?

Lightning pace, but cant finish, wasted loads of opportunities last season, should play on the wing, hes is definitely not a striker, if he could finish his chances he would be deadly at this level

Sounds DM type of signing, we only play one upfront with 3 behind. We already have Lokilo who has that pace and Taylor who is fairly rapid.

As I said if he could finish he wouldnt be in this league for long, has potential to be something special

First we get Zech Medley (centre half) on loan from Arsenal.

Now his mate Trae Coyle (striker/winger) has joined.

On the face of it, 2 excellent signings who seem very highly thought of up in North London. Welcome aboard lads.

Wasn't expecting another CB. As you say, maybe Bolger, as another high-ish earner (now the other high earners have left) will be moved on. Or we're looking at 3 at the back.

Walsh seems like another solid signing on the face of it - a word that sums up our business so far. Nothing spectacular but the basis of a decent side.

Need a couple of signings in forward areas because I'm not seeing too many goals in the side at the minute. Add a GK into the mix and that'll probably be us done.

Walsh is class, but under 150 games in 5 years is telling

Walsh played for Crawley in league 1 and was pretty good at the level. He was also a near ever present so where the injury problems have come from is baffling.

There aint many left footed centre halfs about so it's always handy to get a decent one.

Nowhere near one of the best defenders in this division. He’s not very good at LB but he’s decent enough at CB. Ricketts has been playing him at LB the whole of last season but Beckles wants to play CB next season but not a chance he’ll get ahead of Pierre or Ro-Shaun Williams for us so he’s moved on. Would be a decent signing for Crewe but nothing more.

Think Bolger will leave or be at the bottom of the pecking order as he's not a Appleton type player, he's a not comfortable playing out from the back and made a fair few errors last season trying to do so.

At right wing he’s a good player, but unfortunately for you it’s Steve Evans who decided to play him at CM - he doesn’t have the positioning, or passing ability to play in that position.

Always gave his all here though, and scored some crackers but Steve Evans making him a CM and the next two managers after playing him in that position means majority of Stags fan agreed with the release.

Dont expect him to be a starter as that is probably where we are strongest, squad player at most I think

You want him in squad over Mellis, barring the odd exceptional performance from him.

This is pretty much identical to what I put in the L2 transfer thread. He isn't great in centre midfield. Plenty of energy and hard work but can't really play and hindered by a poor touch.

A couple of loan signings close for us.

As expected, MA has also said Bolger can leave if he wants to. Not actively looking to move him on as such, but it sounded like a chat has been had about him not being a starter.

"One of the better defenders in League 1"????? :woot:

To quote John Lennon, when asked if Ringo was the best drummer in the world "he's not even the best drummer in The Beatles".......we played with a back 3 last season, Beckles was our 4th choice and played 11 games!

Absolute A1 guy though, community work, speaking out about mental health issues.etc. Has said hid goodbyes, not a word against him on our board. Lives with his wife and kids in North Shropshire so an easy daily drive to Crewe.

One of our fans that’s trying to show he’s ITK with a little success so far reckons Gilbey joined Charlton because he was promised £250k a year. I really have no idea if they can guarantee him £750k over his contract but I guess it’s his career to risk

I would be surprised but it’s not completely unbelievable when a lot of our highest earners have left the club,Taylor, Solly, Saar etc.

This morning we signed Marcus McGuane on loan. A very strange, if not impressive CV without playing much!

Arsenal > Barcelona > Forest >... Oxford. His CV just gets better and better!

I love Alex MacDonald. A real trier and a real intensity about his work. You always sense that he will put the dogged work in and that wins people over. You can't not like him in truth.

What I would say is that it's an economical signing and with a long season ahead you could do worse. Michael Appleton when at the helm had a tendency to turnover players that had proven successful. The model at the time meant that players who were a fixture across the previous 18 months having been a significant squad member were essentially replaced with better quality. Alex was largely replaced with better personnel.

Alex recently appeared on an OUFC podcast and he seemed genuinely upset he left the club. He also felt he became complacent and felt he could have done more to remain at the club by not allowing his standards to fall.

A really likable guy. He's not a bad footballer really, but he probably gets tarnished a bit too much with being 'hard working but lacking quality'. I don't think I'd want him as part of a promotion push necessarily (if that is the ambition) but he's a good guy and was always well received at OUFC.

Also as has been said he's also not a central midfielder - Not even remotely so. That's a... Strange one.

We’ve signed highly rated Arsenal midfielder Matt Smith on a season long loan. Was involved in the squad for the Cup Final.
