We’ve signed Joe Dodoo on a 2 year contract, worked with Wellens before so hopefully he can hit the ground running

How on earth are Burton affording all these players. Burton have always struck me as a very well run club, even when they got promoted they didn't over spend, but since JFH has come in they've gone crazy. Even with all these signings, its going to be a tall task for promotion. I can only see it ending badly, the wage bill must be up there with some of the bigger clubs in this league, and attendances are barely 3000.
Tbh I have thought the same, I can only imagine the money raised from cup runs a couple of years ago, and transfer fees achieved not long ago ( harness to Pompey for close on a million ) might be supplementing it all. I expect many to leave on that list as they will not get anywhere close to the starting day squad.
I hope it’s not a massive gamble that could go tits up. Knowing Ben Robinson, I would assume he has cut the cloth accordingly. We hope anyway.

I know they've said we've got 33 players in that article. But I'm sure it's 28 (29 when Madger inevitably signs). And of those: 4 are on loan, Sam Booth isn't on a contract he's just a U23 squad filler, 4 of the lads are first year pros so will be on a pittance and I imagine the two keepers, Travis, Adebisi, BSD, Griffiths, Lundstram and possibly even Offord will be on wages far below the league average. So, from our point of view, it's more than sustainable for us given how our club is run. We've always needed a bigger squad in the EPPP era due to U23 commitments anyway.

Burton does surprise me though. Said they were cost cutting when Nigel Clough left, failed with Jake Buxton and now Hasselbaink (who I believe doesn't take a wage only expenses according to an article last year?) has brought in players of a far higher calibre than what were there this time last year. Awful lot of players rotting away there this season.
You are right about clough. He left to help the club out during the pandemic, although some fans feel it was his way of leaving as he fancied a change without saying it. So he came out a hero.
Not sure if jfh salary - will try and find out. Can’t imagine he is doing it for expenses anymore.

Fair play, hope he isn’t shite given his name. Bolton and Wigan fans would know more about him as a player
In all seriousness he was decent with us although inconsistent, scored a few goals in a rank bad team....He did well at Wigan. Some days good other days awful......

W

We tried to give you Ellis "hattrick" Harrison for next to nothing, now he's worth over 10 million with his pizza hut trophy treble...
Strong rumour that he was heading our way deadline day....

It’s being reported that we have signed former Arsenal youth Captain and centre half Joseph Olowu given Cam John’s back fracture, Tom Anderson’s ankle injury and Ben Blythe having Covid.
Never played a League game but has been on loan at Cork City plus played a few Pizza cup games and Prem 2. Desperate times

Appleton says we were interested in securing one particular free agent signing after the transfer window closed (presumably a forward/winger). However, another league one club offered around four times what we could have paid. There has definitely been some absurd money payed out in our league this season.

We have signed Kieran Agard of a short term deal until Jan.

What can you tell us about him Dons (and Rotherham) fans?

One of the nicest guys in football. His legs are probably gone and he seemed to have lost his proficiency when we got back to League 1 despite an excellent year the season before, but I will always have a lot of time for him. I hope he does well.

Cheers. We only have fit two “adult” strikers at the moment, so he may well add a bit more nouse than our 18 year old third striker who really Lowe wanted to send out on loan but could not. Think the deal sounds good for both Agard and us.

He was great the short time he was here and contributed hugely to our promotion in 2013. (including a winner at Home Park)
He also got a hat trick at Wolves in a 6 4 defeat, one of the best games I've ever seen.
But it's been 7 years since then so I think MK Dons fans will offer a more reliable opinion.

Ryan Lowe said on Soccer Saturday that he wanted a striker to be able to be an option when he needs to give the other two a break, so even though I think Agard is past it at this level he’ll still bring valuable experience to them and can plug a hole when needed, though I wouldn’t expect him to score too many.

Interesting to see Artell talking about seriously looking in the free agent market earlier this week and that Keiren Westwood is currently training at the club. Obviously wages are the big thing here as I believe he was on a fat contract at Wednesday for years. However, a keeper of his calibre would improve us immensely as we concede far too many soft goals so, if it's possible, let's hope we can do a deal for him.

Club also need to look at why our keepers stagnate. The likes of Owain Fon, Garratt and now Jaaskalainen have all been pushed and got to a similar level without pushing on. The keeper role at the academy has always been its biggest weakness, always assumed it was because there was no money in keepers (and Dario never knew how to coach them either) but that’s not the case anymore. Yet still seems an after thought, so not sure why any parent would want their kid anywhere near our academy if they were a keeper.

Many would say Fred Barber is also a very poor GK Coach. But there's not a cat in hell's chance he'll ever be sacked as long as Artell's here. I also think Garratt suffered from many years of playing behind clowns like Harry Davis, Jon Guthrie, Ben Nugent and, before his revival, George Ray. When we became competent defensively, he actually seemed to regress. Which is quite a hard thing to do! That would point to potentially having major concentration issues in games where he wasn't being tested. The amount of times he would often let in 2 goals in a very short space of time were far too regular for a professional keeper.

No doubt he'll get a clean sheet for Burton next week against us. This is the one keeper I'd back us to score a bagful though if we shot from 25 yards out. Which means we'll be attempting to walk the ball into the net on Saturday and, once again, fail to test another keeper in the process.

Hard to judge Barber personally, all I know of him is from Twitter and a lot of that appears to be Steve Phillips stirring with an inflated opinion of himself (he himself may or may not be a good coach but I wouldn’t have a clue). What is evident is our keepers get to a point where they stop improving. There’s the delicate balance where the keeper position is massively exposed and critiqued, and at this level most keepers have a major flaw or two, but for a club who prides itself on developing players I don’t think I’ve ever seen a keeper improve that much whilst with us. I remember the talk from the England youth set up about Ben Garratt when he was first breaking into the team and that certainly suggested he had more potential than Burton Albion.

We signed Scotland U21 'keeper Archie Mair from Norwich on deadline day but was only announced yesterday because of injury. Should be with us in a week or so, which means we'll then send out young 'keeper Sam Long out on loan.

Can't think that we've ever had two loan GK's in the squad.
