January approaching and we're starting to be linked with players.

No surprise to hear that Morgan Whittaker (Swansea) is back on our loan radar. We've been fairly open, without naming names, that we'll go back in for the loan players we missed out on in the summer. We were supposed to get Whittaker and a PL youngster but injuries scuppered that one.

James Norwood also mentioned, although I can't imagine we'll be anywhere near his Ipswich wages so I'm not sure on that one unless it's just a short term loan with a low-ish contribution to wages.

We'll be busy with outs as well, I can see a handful leaving albeit two of those are already out on loan until next month.

We're also supposedly interested in Norwood, who looks well down the pecking order now at Ipswich. I'm guessing we'd have to somehow shift players out in January though for this to happen.

A few weeks back I'd have said that the Cowleys were planning for a promotion effort next season, but our upturn in form means that we have a chance of play-offs this year. Could change our January dealings a bit.

We're also supposedly in for James Norwood but can't see it happening unless if Kieran Agard moves on in January.

We’ll all be in for James Norwood and he’ll end up at Salford.

Wyke is understandably out until next year, personally I'll be very surprised if he plays again this season. So a physical, hard-working striker just became our number one target in January. We don't need them to have a prolific goalscoring record (although that would be nice). Just a big lump who doesn't stop running and can link up play.

I think most teams in the championship and league one are looking for one of them.

That sounds like Ellis Harrison! He's all yours! (You may get five games out of him before his next injury)

'Shivers uncontrollably'

I think we'll end up with some carthorse currently sitting on the bench at a Championship club. Someone like Gary Madine, Steven Fletcher or Tom Eaves, that sort of mould.

Very harsh on Fletcher that. We were in the play offs at the turn of the year in 19/20 season when he got a bad injury in the January. Ended up finishing about 17th. No coincidence our form nosedived without him.

Yeah, I think Fletcher still plays quite a bit for Stoke, not a chance he drops down in January. I'd have him here.

Eaves seems the most viable on that list.

Eaves was very good for us at this level (not really sure if that was a blip or not), but would be an excellent choice to have based on that 20+ season.

I’d take any of those cart horses over the shite we’ve got

Josh Griffiths has a recall option in his loan deal from WBA. I think most loans have them break clauses but I think we're expecting Griffiths to head back to WBA. Last I read, WBA were expecting Johnstone to leave in January and therefore need a third 'keeper.

MA's also said they're trying to get Longdon out to get some football. He didn't play much last season, mostly in the Pizza games, yet this season he's barely step foot on the pitch at all. It was a weird contract extension at the time, but seems even weirder now that he can't even get on the pitch in Pizza games.

We are apparently keen on Josh Ruffels. Assume it’ll be to play left back as we haven’t had one all season. Any good Oxford fans?

Yes, a good L1 left back. Has a habit of scoring key goals as well, good going forward and decent in the air. Can get caught out defensively though and opposition teams seemed to target his wing more often than not, whether that was down to him or their strengths I don't know. He has decent speed but good paced wingers can be a problem. He won't stop trying however it is going for him and I liked him as our starting left back.

I'd say his strengths and weaknesses are somewhat down to his being a converted central midfielder but I think if you get him then you've got yourself a good signing.

He's Mr Dependable and very very rarely misses a game. Not the flashiest, but 7.5 out of 10 every week.

Would make sense. The Cowleys want to play 3-4-1-2 with wing backs and I'm not sure they're convinced about Lee Brown at left wing back. They must have also been impressed with his penalty-winning dive against us a few weeks back.

Us and Pompey are eying a loan move for Liam Cullen from Swansea.

We're also being heavily linked with a permanent move for Trai Hume, a young NI defender from Linfield. Tried to sign him in the summer.

Always rumours about this time of year.I believe he's out of contract in the summer.I guess it depends on how much Portsmouth offer.

Sounds like the Lashers are trying to wriggle out of a deal for Owen Dale, or get him at a knock-down price.

Sounds like a little c*** based on his behaviour at Accy, so should fit right in at your place. As long as he's happy getting battered everywhere he goes.

Remy Longdon has gone to York on loan until the end of January, which will be the last we see of him. Appleton said he was struggling with training here (technically, rather than physically). He didn't play much last season and has played even less this, despite being a poorer side.

Can't fault his work rate and attitude, he was one of those who iss genuinely pleased and appreciative of being involved in football but quality wise he's not L1 standard. He'll probably settle at NL/NLN/NLS level, although he might be ok at a low placed L2 side at a push.

Josh Lundstram has gone out on loan to Solihull. He was expected to step into Ryan Wintles shoes. Its not quite worked for him yet but I think there is a decent player in there. A loan in the national league at a half decent team should do him good.

Fair bit of talk around the Owen Dale situation. Seems like Blackpool now don't want to pay the already agreed fee, thought to be £500,000. Artell has said the price is the price. They either pay or he comes back to us in January. Which leads to more issues, I doubt the fans will welcome him back with open arms having pushed a transfer through, but at same hand having an Owen Dale playing would improve our team a fair bit.
