Clearly not as good as in his prime, and it was only a short spell here, but he’s not worth the wage he’s probably commanded IMO or a signing to get excited about despite his record with Doncaster years ago.

Hard worker, never gives less than 100% and I suspect excellent off the pitch as well, but is a 6 yard box striker now. That’s not a bad thing at times, but he clearly needs to be in a side who’re going to provide that service for him. He’s got no real pace, not great at holding the ball up, won’t win much in the air and was actually a bit sloppy at times here.

Not the easiest of seasons to play for us last year, though, and he did earn us some points along the way despite us not creating too much for him.
Sounds like exactly what we needed last season tbh. Supply wasn’t the issue, but finishing the chances.

Overall sounds like a solid L1 striker which is all I can ask for coming back into the league. Thanks for the replies all

Sounds like Hourihane to Derby is on.

I thought they’d be under heavy wage restrictions, guess not?

Unless he is accepting a lower wage to stay in the area

Signed Arsenal u23 captain Zak Swanson on a permanant deal. 21 year old plays anywhere along the back or in midfield. The type of players we are likely to see at Pompey under Cowley. Young with decent technical backgrounds.

I notice we've reached Page 666 of this thread, can someone do the decent thing and sign Dave Satan, Mike Beelzebub, or someone similarly named?

We're being linked to a young lad who's English but has been playing in Canada, striker, and goes by the glorious name of Aribim Pepple. Quick search says he's from Kettering but doesn't seem to list any local clubs as youth. Hopefully some mad gem our moneyball wonks have unearthed.

Been in Canada since he was 5, played at. u17 level for Canada. No idea if he’s any good, 6 goals in 7 for Cavalry FC in the Canadian Premier League this season.

Just reading we apparently already had an option on him when he signed for them so looks like it's not something pulled out of a mad late window search. We do seem to do pretty well with the unlikely stuff so I'm fairly enthusiastic. Suppose he won't be first XI straight off but who knows?

Well I suppose he’ll be third choice behind Matt and March whilst Stevens is injured, we need more depth in that area.

Sam Smith on the bus to our training camp in Cardiff so nothing imminent on his transfer out.

Our assistant has come out and said he doesn’t know where our link to Smith has come from.

Edit: I typed that after only seeing the article but apparently the actual interview makes it look like Chris Hogg is simply reading out the script while also giving a knowing a look. Nixon believes it's still on too so who knows.

It’s between us and Burton for Mikael Mandron who turned down a new deal at Crewe.

We’re still after a target man but I wouldn’t be happy with Mandron. He was hopeless when we had him on loan years back and I’ve got a mate who’s Crewe Alex season ticket holder and he says if we want to be pushing towards the top end of League 1, then we need better than him.

Fingers crossed he chooses Burton over us!

Also heard a rumour we’re back in for Vadaine Oliver from Gillingham. We did try and sign him in January but couldn’t complete it in time. Rather him than Mandron.

Well you know what the close season is like, it could all just have been his agent making up bollocks in the hope that the rumour spreads and other clubs think, “hey! That guy sounds good, maybe we should take a look too.”

Besides, we only tend to sign players from clubs we’ve faced recently if they’ve had a cracker against us - not the case with Smith.

We're being linked with Dinamo Zagreb WB Dennis Gyamfi, formerly of Leicester, due to play for us against Bristol City today. He's contracted at Zagreb until 2024, not sure if it'd be a loan or permanent. Not going to pretend I know anything about him but looks promising on the face of it.

Or maybe not...it sounds like Luton might be about to snatch him from our grasp.

Do any Pompey fans wish to issue a judgement on Brandon Haunstrup? Just signed for Cambridge on a 2 year deal.

Akim Famewo is now being followed by Chansiri’s son on Instagram. It’s as good a source as any.

Can’t see I know anything about him.

Bobbin' any opinion on Akin Famewo?

Hmm, he’s a funny one. We had him on loan for two seasons, really liked him the first season so makes sense we got him for the second season but he was pretty hopeless last season, knocked off the ball far too easily for a bloke his size and loves an aimless hoof which quite often end up out of play. We had an option to buy at the end of the latest loan that we didn’t take up.

There’s a player in there but he needs to improve on last season.

Famewo confirmed.

Must say, the defenders we finished the season with - Dean, Storey, Iorfa, Hutchinson looks to be better than what we currently have with Iorfa, Ihiekwe, Heneghan and Famewo on paper at least. I’m hoping we can still get another one in.

Just don’t watch highlights of Bolton’s first goal against us in February.

Just watched it!

Horrendous but it’s part of football. He was actually quite unlucky not to stop it going in eventually.

haha yeah I’m being harsh, it’s only one of two huge errors I can remember him making, the other being a dreadful back pass to the keeper at Wimbledon when there were no crowds which also led to a goal.

Just his general play is all a bit, meh.
