We've signed England U21 GK Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton for the season. An area that needed attention because Long isn't ready for L1 football IMO and needs a season out at National League level or maybe even League 2, and Jordan Wright isn't good enough to be number one.

Linked with Derby earlier in the week.
2 very promising signings in the past 2 days!

Not so great for our first goal here though...

It wasn’t but in mitigation as mentioned above he was being asked to play a role that’s not really him due to injuries to Pett and Walker. It was also Jakes first start in a long time coming off an injury as well. Give him an advanced role and he will be good, whether Derek Adams will play that way we’ll see.

decent player when fit and was awesome at wembley.

to be honest im indifferent to him going as we will probably feel we can get more output for the money he was on.

im not too concerned about the outgoings today (aaron martin has left for eastleigh to be closer to family) but the proof will be in the signings and i must admit I''d have liked a couple more through the door by now.

Curtis Davies has signed a new deal. Absolutely huge. He was colossal last season and his presence at the club makes this deal absolutely more important. I couldn’t be happier than it’s finally done - no doubt will be captain for this season too.

Stearman also signed, again, good news as he never put a foot wrong last season when called upon.

It depends if we lose anyone, but Rosenior looked beaming in his first press conference. It’s such a nice feeling after the last two seasons where everything just seemed to unravel.

Curtis Davies is absolutely massive. I can’t overstate just how good he was last season, a complete contrast to his previous two injury hit years, he looked as good as he ever has in a Derby shirt. Won his second POTY for us.

It sounds like this deal includes opportunities after retirement to stay at the club - he seems to be tied to the hip with Rosenior so I do wonder if that’s been the hold up. I don’t think it will be long before Rosenior is announced publicly - I’m 100% he’s already got the job and it’s just formalities.

Only two seasons?

That would have been nice.

That’s it isn’t it, are we just seeing the emotion because of the two play off performances over the previous 18 months where he had been either injured or miles off the level he had been at on loan the year before?

He isn’t really an Adams type player, if he’s asked to defend you saw the difficulties he got in against Rovers in a CDM role, I’d have rather kept him but there is probably 5 or 6 ahead of him in the pecking order with Ojo, Pett, Walker, Conlon, Garrity and Charsley Along with likely Holden coming in so if he wants game time it’s probably a good move for him.

Be interesting to see how you get on, don’t get me wrong the players you’re signing are all big names but are definitely getting on in their career.

One thing that is obvious, is the massive gap in club size / budgets in this league, and it only seems to be increasing.

You look at Exeter for example, missed out on targets according to their gaffer, yet to sign anyone, fan owned etc. ( Not a criticism, I think you’re a well run club)

Compared to the likes of Wednesday ( Taking Smith and Ihiekwe off promoted Rotherham) and particularly Derby. Hourihane is a mental signing for this league.

Almost becoming a mirror of the Championship.

I said before that when you get teams of a certain following in this division, which does happen, then it becomes harder for the smaller teams to compete - essentially (as you said) a mirror of the Championship.

It could push teams who don't have the revenue to make financially poor choices to try and keep up with those with the resources. The Championship is no different with the parachute payment clubs and those trying to bridge the gap. Following is one thing that will keep a club alive, because you can monetise it, you can make the worst situation commercially viable when you have a crowd big enough.

On the signings, we are unable to pay fees for players so that we're limited on who we can actually go out and buy. A lot of the better footballers available via free agency just happen to be the older players. The players young enough still going upwards in their career aren't on the market for various reasons. We seem to be a bridge for these experienced players who essentially need a home. Fortunately, the skeleton squad we were left with was purely our academy players (and Bielik and Byrne) so the majority of it is still very young. It just depends if we can keep hold of the better ones, because it's not like we can go out and buy their replacements.

It's coming together nicely, but still work to do. Roberts and Collins look nailed on, but I'd imagine that's going to take a longer process to clear with the EFL. We could do with some full backs and wingers, maybe another striker... oh, and another goalkeeper!

Pompey linked to Joe Rafferty, bloke is utterly fucking talentless. He's sort of fine if wingers are as slow as him.
It appears to be where we're at right now.

Cowley's are seemingly left scouring the frees trying to get value for money which is hard when there apparently isn't any.

I think most of us are just hoping that this is all a smokescreen and behind the scenes we are really aiming a lot higher and waiting for the right players to become available ie Hurst and Carter.

Whatever is happening, we're three weeks away from the start of the season and have so far signed two players and don't have a striker on our books.

Awful recruitment......Can you go up yes then what
This time next year you will be in the championship with players simply too old or spending half their time out injured. Most will have another12 months to run on there contracts so you will be left with no choice to play them or another rebuild some clubs never learn

Its been happening for years now, big teams who shouldn't have really found themselves in L1, have done. The likes of Norwich, Southampton, Leeds, Leicester and Sunderland I can remember having a taste of the 3rd tier in recent times.
There does seem to be a larger number of bigger clubs down here now though, whereas before you only got one or two there is now Derby, Sheff Weds, Ipswich, Charlton, Portsmouth, Bolton....and ourselves obviously.
Charlton have been the biggest underachievers for me, having seen the players in their squad.

The best goalkeeper in the league is back… Jamie Cumming returns on loan for the season. That’s a massive signing for us.
I wonder how many teams rely on loan goalkeepers in this division? We have for the past 2 seasons, you have Cumming back, and i know Portsmouth are after a keeper. Anyone else?

That's brilliant. I'm suprised someone higher up the food chain didn't come in for him but maybe they don't much use loanee keepers in the rarified heights of the championship!!!

A rumour on our forum - Crystal Palace starlet Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, 19, set to go on season-long loan to MK Dons

It is the sun mind.

He looks a very good player. I did wonder if Derby would throw their hat in the ring for him, after they took Ebiowei off us - essentially a player in the same position. I would've definitely tried to work a loan for him into any deal, instead we're going to tribunal.

You did have a decent squad last season and as far as I can gather have'nt really lost any players. But with the step up and a good will factor of having new players -- I can see a bit of a struggle for you.

Exeter have a decent team but what’s the squad like?

We got found out with a small squad last season when injuries hit us. Thankfully we had some decent youth players when called upon and Smith took on the Ironside role better than anyone anticipated.

Moomin, I assume the reason is that you are beaten to the punch by those with bigger budgets. Maybe you are trying to emulate Spurs from a few years ago when they bought no one in. Have you lost many, or is it essentially the same squad as last year? Sure you’ll have some happier news soon.
