Sounds like Josh Griffths and Joe Pigott joining on loan today
What do you recon on Pigott? Seemed to flop at Ipswich or maybe not given a proper chance?

Edited to add - a lot of good players seem to flop at Ipswich for some reason.

Derby, Ipswich, Exeter, Wednesday and MK all seem streets above the rest in this league, I think it could be a case of 3 mini leagues. Us 5 fighting it out for autos. Bolton, Rovers, Charlton, Vale, P'boro, Oxford, Barnsley & Pompy fighting for the remaining play off place, then the rest of the pack all fighting between relegation and mid table mediocracy.

My opinion isn't going to change much unless there's some serious transfer business in the last few weeks.

For both Hourihane and McGoldrick not having to shift address is as big a factor as money for them. If Derby adhere to the EFL business plan then who are we to judge how they spend their money, their income along with us and Ipswich will absolutely dwarf the rest of the division, hence a bigger pot to play with.
No doubt about it, budgets will be bigger, but if you're carrying several players on big money and have to sign more in addition to cover, that's where the problems hit. I just think the transfer policy is short term throwing cash at it and this is where things went wrong before. If it works then great but seems a bit silly after being rescued at the last minute. Sustainable growth should be the way for any club bar the few elite clubs who have hundreds of billions to burn.

Hopefully follows NI lads like Sykes and Whyte in doing well.
We’ve basically got a mini Irish 5 a side team going within our ranks as it is. The team looks exciting but there’s a tiny part of me that’s a bit nervy given that Burns and Devoy haven’t played outside of Ireland yet. They look excellent though from the clips I’ve seen.

Supposedly Burton want Josh Harrop. He's a fucking waste of life.

Always seemed to score against us for Wimbledon and had 2 really good seasons in a side that were right at the bottom of the table. Our first team coach Simon Bassey knows his from his Wimbledon days so hopefully he'll do well here. I think Ipswich recruitment last season was terrible. Some of it was from the owner/CEO/old Recruitment team and some straight from Paul Cook.

We are currently the only side not to have signed anyone.

Yay, go us.
So far, we’ve only signed development squad players and an ex-ManYoo academy forward with a massive 3 first team appearances in senior football (all off the bench) to his name.

I’m expecting 2 or 3 higher-profile signings (GK is a must, a CB and a striker are also needed) but we look to be taking our time.

I’m not worried, we could start the season tomorrow and be OK (although not promotion challengers), but it’d be nice to see some kind of full first team signing soon.

Any Shrewsbury fans able to give a view on Max O’Leary? We’re being linked with him on loan from Bristol City and I see he had a loan spell with the Shrews in 19/20

Never mind serious transfer business, you haven't done any transfer business at all...

Yes, but we have also not got rid of our main players (none of our starting 11, actually) unlike a certain Village team up north who have got rid of some very key players. We also have an academy with players that are already Championship quality ready to come through. Even if we don't sign Bishop or another v good keeper, Lee is more than good enough for L1 football.

Which of your academy players are already Championship quality, and if they're that good already why aren't they playing in your first team?

Can't remember if it's been mentioned but Chris Maguire is probably on his way out at some point. He's not played any part in friendlies/training games so far in pre-season and when we've had one, hasn't even been at the games unlike other players who haven't been involved.

Cox & Pond would walk into most Championship sides and they both will feature in our first team this season.

Walk into implies that they will be regular starters. Feature suggests the occasional start, but mostly on the bench. So in the league above they would play most games, but in our league they won’t. Hmmm.

Your assumptions of what implies what doesn't resonate with me or the English language, but you carry on.

Bali Mumba confirmed on loan until the end of the season, bringing us up to a 23 man squad. A striker (Morgan Whittaker?) and we’re set.

So do you expect Cox & Pond will start the majority of games this season then?

Pond was on loan at Tiverton last season and Cox was on loan at Weston apparently. You’ve got a good academy but to suggest they would walk into most Championship sides seems a bit of a stretch?

He’s clearly on the wind up, just ignore him.

For comparison, Ollie Watkins was at loan WSM in 2015 and started most of our games the following year and was snapped up by Brentford the year after (Having turned down £1m plus bids from Champ sides 6 months before that)

Jordan Storey was on loan at Bideford in 2016, Tiverton & Dorchester in 2017, did 6 months with us and then walked straight into Championship side Preston. He's not a mark on Alfie Pond.

Ethan Ampadu only 'featured' for us a handful of times, not the 'majority' before leaving for Chelsea, he made his debut 2 months later. That team won the Europa league and only just lost the league cup final on penalties to Man City.

Joel Randell was on loan at Weymouth in 2019 and a regular before injury in 2021 for Peterborough in the Championship - and we were having offers in 2020 for him, so the year after he was with Weymouth.

Josh Key was at Tiverton in 2020 on loan, and in 2021 we turned down over £1m from Sunderland for him, who the same year got promoted to the Championship.

Cox turned down numerous offers from top 6 premiership clubs less 6 months ago. They will both feature this campaign and both would walk into Championship sides. I stand by what I said, being on loan at the clubs you've mentioned doesn't change that.

Sonny Cox will go out on loan again this season, I expect. He’s got bags of potential and has developed physically but DL has been smoking something if he thinks they’d walk into any L1 team, let alone Championship.

Pond will also go out on loan to get games as there’s at least 4 CBs ahead of him at present. One day, both could well play higher than L1 but they’re nowhere near ready.
