Well I think Marriott is at least as good as May, so maybe that's the benchmark

Can't believe Rovers would have a top three of Brown, May and Collins though - one of those would miss out
Wouldnt be a totally depressing problem to have though...

This is why I'm not expecting a huge fee.

If Alfie was 21/22 we'd be looking at a 7-figure fee. There's no doubt about that - we got 7 figures for Mo Eisa who scored 23 goals in one season in League 2. Alfie has 23 and 20 in the last two League 1 seasons.

Last summer, the argument was the same as why no-one took a punt on Cole Stockton - it was his first season of being prolific some years into his career. Unlike Stockton though, Alfie did it again this past season.

Charlton got £250k for Jayden Stockley (32 goals in 4 years) and apparently Fleetwood paid the same for Jack Marriott (23 goals in the last 5 years) from Peterborough. Stockley is 30 in two months (Alfie was 30 yesterday) and Marriott is 29 in two months. I can't believe he's not worth more than those two in the current market. Not a lot more, but more nonetheless

It’s difficult to say without knowing the respective contractual situations of those two and also January is often an inflated market. If it was me from the Cheltenham perspective I’d hold out towards the end of the window and see if a promotion contender like say Bolton or Derby picked up a key injury up top then look for say £250k plus another £100k+ if they go up (which I think is quite possible at the least). Depends how much they are willing to hold their nerve on it or if they have someone else lined up as a replacement I guess.

The replacement was signed in January - Aidan Keena.

Rob Street has been brought in as the 2nd striker with Keena stepping up to the main role.

Where did you see that? We added him back onto our website team today haha. Although he will definitely be leaving, we told him to not bother returning to training. I assume they're working on a settlement, but due to his high wage, it will be difficult.
My bad, think I miss read something and assumed it was talking about Joe Piggott.

He is the sort of striker we’d look to sign though.

Plus the fact we would also have Luke Thomas & Scott Sinclair on the wings.

I think £250k is a joke, but I'm not the one in the boardroom.

He may be 30, but this is the top scorer in League 1 for the past two seasons combined and he still technically has 2 years left on his contract (1 year with an option should we wish to extend for another year). I've never thought we'd be pushing for £750k-£1m, but I do expect in the region of £350k-£400k.

Considering we’re signing 3 attackers, I’m really surprised we’re not in for him. He seems like an obvious choice, even if we only want him to come off the bench he seems really cheap for a player of his recent record.

Scott Hogan is the latest player to be spoken about, seems closer to what I was expecting we would be after this summer. A good player, decent record, a proven entity who would score goals st this level.

Bit of a daft one probably but some are saying we are in for Liam Bennett would guess it would break our transfer record really cant see this being true he was a regular for Cambridge after his loan here.

Tom Conlon to Notts County rumours doing the rounds at the moment.

Probably now 5th or 6th choice with the signings made, if he goes wish him all the best, 2-3 seasons ago he was one of the best midfielders in league two and looked absolute quality at that level but after his long injury lay off looks a shadow of the player he was.

I get the feeling it would have to be an offer that blew him away to convince him to move. He has his academy in the city and I think generally he just wants to stay in the area. Notts could be an option I guess as it’s close enough. It’s clear he’s down the pecking order now but maybe that might spark him to really fight for his spot here.

No chance unless you’re offering silly, silly money.

We were linked earlier in the week as well, we tried to sign him when Reading released him two years ago but chose MK Dons.

We've signed LB/LWB Jaden Brown after his release from Sheffield Wednesday. A position we needed to fill with Roughan likely to move inside to LCB this season and not really being a wing back and fitting that system anyway (albeit he was fine as a full back).

Thoughts, BarrieOwl?

Was looking at our squad earlier and we've still got so much work to do.

Feels like Exeter are starting from scratch. Have you got enough coming through/left to be OK?
Not at the moment, but plenty of time yet. It was the same last Summer.
I suspect there will be at least two coming on this week

I’d be surprised if we were in for him as Liam Bennett will be our first choice right back.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
We're absolutely fucked, no new players want to sign for us because we're so fucking tinpot aren't WE! I mean just look at our training facilities! Proper non league standard!!!

We must be one of the luckiest ever sides to get promoted to L1.
We had the 4th LOWEST budget in L2 last season.

Also the worst ever strip we've ever had for this season.

Best to wait out than panic buy. Too many clubs panic buy just to fend off the fanbase then you get lumped with absolute clart for 2-3 seasons

Afew will start twitching at having no club soon……..or all trying to go to Saudi

Would be a massive shock here if that happened. He's the star boy here.

Agreed, I’m not panicking like some, although it is quite different to last summer as we did have a squad of about 20 in place this time last year.

Listened to Caldwell’s interview on MyNewFootballClub podcast earlier and we have several offers on the table for players, so we’re just waiting for their answer. As you say, hopefully a couple in before Friday.

Wow what a sick thing to say and what did I ever do to you?

Oh yeah now I remember, I hoped along with most other fans on here that your beloved Wigan would get chucked out of the football league for being cheating cocky bastards didn't I.

I didn't know you loved Wigan so much, probably more than their actual fans who prefer the rugby team, you strange twisted person.
you're the weirdo mate

To be fair we’re strong in some areas but massively lacking in others. We’ve got four good CBs, two good LWBs and with Aitchison as a no.10 I’m pretty happy with him, but need more depth there. And add to that Nombe will score between 15-20 goals again assuming we don’t get a silly offer.

We need to bolster the midfield massively and find some way to replace Key and Stansfield in particular. Not easy but Caldwell’s recruitment has been largely good so far.

Becoming obvious to me that Alfie May wants Charlton but yet another take over is hindering us.

In an ideal world TC comes back from a full pre season hungry, confident and we get 2021 TC back, he’d still be an asset and he’s a character that would fight for his place.

He just didn’t look like he trusted his injury and the way he plays is tough tackling and great on the ball but he just didn’t seem to have any trust or belief in not pulling it again.

It’s one of them if he goes and we get some money it’s a good move I’m happy for him to go but would be delighted to see him back to his old self… just not sure if he will get back to that based on last year.

Been with us a good few years now and some of those free kicks and the wonder goal at Barrow will live long in the memory, not to mention his family ties to the club.

Could go either way, as I don’t think he will want to go.
