We've rejected a derisory bid from Hull City for Max Bird - not sure what it would've been, but get the feeling that we would want more for him than Knight. I feel like this will be a long drawn out game of cat and mouse where they end up signing him for around £2.5-3m.

Warne is doing a local news presser tonight, so it will be interesting what he has to say on this and other movements. Every interview his done recently has come a little bit more unhinged at the lack of business - I think the Bird bid will be one that tips him over the edge and he finally calls someone a c***, not sure who but well worth listening to in order to find out.

Ed Turns has rejoined on a season long loan from Brighton. Was very good for us at the back end of last season and chipped in with a few goals. Still got a lot to learn but happy with this signing.

Much needed cover at centre back with Shad Ogie sold and Adam Thompson back from another long term injury at the end of September.

Plange looked totally lost upfront for us, even more so Nlundulu the season before.
He wasn't prolific before he arrived and didn't enhance his goalscoring record with us.

Hamilton did well in a struggling side and scored goals from midfield something we've hugely lacked in the last two seasons.
Another tall player which another we've lacked, we've generally been quite a small side physically.

All 6 of our signings have been permanent which is again another departure for us as we've heavily relied on loan players but the club has said that they wanted to move away from this and looks like we are, think we had 7 on loan in the second half of last season, crazy.

Mainly off the bench....Awful record in the league
Better in the Papa Johns played the full 90 against Plymouth got our third goal played wide right that day

Think he got a couple in the earlier rounds including the semi-final against Accrington.

Told you you could not attract 2 wingers better than Sadlier.....Todays proved it

Ethan Hamilton joins from Accy. Another permanent!
Seems a decent signing on the face of it - plenty of L1 experience, rarely injured, seems to have popped 6 or 7 goals in a season for Accy and more height in the side for us.

Midfield options are looking much better this season than the short, lightweight trio of Sorenson, Sanders and Oakley-Boothe of last season's opener against Exeter. Arguably the best options we've had since the second half of 2020/21 with Briductt, McGrandles and Grant?

I make that a senior squad of 19 now but Montsma is out for most of the season and Adelakun will leave one way or another, so really we're at 17. Still work to do in the next month.

EDIT - I also reckon we have six left footers in the squad now, which generally speaking seems an unusually high number.

Speaking of Sadlier, our DOF Martin Ling has mentioned that he is still on our list of targets, but as expected he said he is also on a very good contract with Bolton - one we're never going to match. Also said he knew you played 3-5-2 and how he doesn't really fit your system.

Ling seemed to think there is a chance you might pay him up and let him move somewhere for free - Which would be of interest to us.

Rumour is that we’ve won the race to sign Josh Thomas on loan from Swansea, been banging them in during pre season but doesn’t mean a great deal. Need strikers though and usually one is a young loanee so if true (talk from Swansea) then hopefully he does well.

We’ll see if there’s anything in it. Big ask for someone on a first loan to come into a L1 side and be expected to contribute regularly given our shortage of other options up front currently. By all accounts has pace though which is something we don’t have in abundance. I’m guessing we are going to hold off announcing Wilson as well until 2pm Saturday (obviously have to register him the day before).

Paul Warne let a few things slip, by design or not, I don’t know in his radio interview.

The reason we can’t/aren’t spending any of the money recouped from the sales of Bielik and Knight is due to the agreement already being in place with the EFL on our playing staff budget prior to any sales. Any money made from outgoing players is inconsequential so while it helps fund the club, which isn’t needed as we’re already running well below our revenue, it essentially hits the balance sheet as profit that we can’t use. Not sure why we have agreed to such a thing, but there we go. Not sure if it’s something that can be looked at, doubtful it will be this window anyway.

Waghorn has been offered a deal, but it’s essentially something that he never factored into the budget so, by all accounts, is a lot less than what his agent wants. We’ll see if anything happens there.

We’ve lost out on two strikers to other league one clubs, no names mentioned. He did mention that he expects Oxford to be title contenders which makes me think that Ruben Rodrigues possibly was one of them. Sam Smith, our resident ITK believes, was also one. We were linked with Alfie May but we just never were in a position to sign him by the sounds of it so don’t think he was one.

He had to stop himself from giving the green light on a deal for a striker who in Warne’s words would’ve killed us with his wages - no idea who. Rhodes came to mind.

He also mentioned that the loan market is shit at the moment and said he will wait until the last week or so to see what’s out there. He mentioned middlesbrough as an example, perhaps Coburn is a player on his radar. It was a flippant comment but that is one that does seem to make sense.

Massively concerned that any outgoings, regardless of fee, can’t be reinvested in the team this summer. We’re essentially under the same restrictions as last year albeit marketed in a different way.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
There must be something in this Plange who Carlisle have signed because he will have been recommended by Gregg Abbott and I don’t usually doubt his ‘choices’ of strikes, the sheer quality of forwards that came to Carlisle when he was here as either assistant or manager was ridiculous Joe Garner, Danny Graham, Nakki Wells, Jermaine Beckford Paddy Madden, just a constant stream of top quality forwards at the early part of their careers.

Unfortunately for us Abbott used to enjoy one up front and play these on half way line or out wide

Hopefully now it’s Simpson who can grab a little more here out of a player than others have, it may be he just needs a couple of goals as a lift up.

Don't know why fans make these definitive opinions on young loan strikers. Our clueless fans have slagged off the likes of Lukas Nmecha, Danny Welbeck, Josh King, Stephy Mavididi, and Andy Carroll over the years. Tipping them for lower league careers.

All multi million pound players who have played plenty of top flight football.

Confirmed to be Derby’s James Collins thankfully and not the Watford one. Think we’re waiting on Derby to confirm a few strikers first. Something must be close on the striker front as we wouldn’t have let O’Brien go yesterday to leave us with just two striker ahead of Saturday. Looks like Max Mata is about to be confirmed for a six figure fee from Sligo today.

Random rumour out of nowhere is Mal Benning from Port Vale. Seems to have started from the Vale end. We are in the market for a LB/LWB as George Nurse who’s just come back from being out for all of last season got injured straight away in a friendly and is out for months once again. Doubt this is true though and is utter bull.

Seems random but happy for him to go, he really struggled with the step up and whilst an ok back up if we want to progress he shouldn't be starting so a few quid to get a good replacement and would take it (will likely be behind Conor Grant)

He never really lived up to expectation and at times last season was an absolute disaster, Peterborough Away being one and his famous "defending" against Charlton second last game of the season when he appeared to chase their attacker in a circle rather than just get goal side allowing him to score!

Always thankful for that moment at Wembley and if he goes its with best wishes but seemed to be League Two level as the better wide men at this level just destroy him.

Hopefully we’re not in for him then… I really can’t see it especially if it’s involving a fee. We’ve already spent money on Sobowale plus look to be spending six figures on Max Mata as well as looking at buying Nando Pijnaker who will command a fee. Have to wait and see I guess…

Josh Thomas now confirmed on loan from Swansea so we finally have a second striker! Adds pace we desperately needed at least.

Benning is not L1 standard in all honesty. One of them who is very good for the league below but just got exposed against better quality players in this league both defensively and going forward. Would be one extra spot we’d need to replace though as while he’s only a backup I cannot for the life of me think we will go down the road of having only one LWB in the squad again with all the problems that brought last season.

We would have to get another in because Grant doesn't have the best injury record

We're still in for Tyler Burey (Millwall) - I've never seen him play so can't comment. We've also allegedly had bids knocked back for Jack Marriott at Fleetwood. I'm assuming he's nowhere near the same player he once was, but had a decent run in front of goal from January.
