Plays multiple positions including wing back and RW, and also centrally, though from what I've heard when he's used more centrally it's usually further forward and more as a number 10.

Not sure what his best position would be? Perhaps a fan of one of his previous clubs could answer that?

From the sounds of it he wouldn't necessarily be the exact type of midfielder we ideally want, unless Bonner thinks differently?

We tried him as a LWB and he was hopeless, he just doesn't possess the determination to get back and cover.

He is a technical, skillful player but always looke a bit lazy, he will no doubt work hard in his first few games then revert to type.

He was best for us playing just behind the strikers and TBF not too bad as a winger.
He looked a good player at Doncaster, where they accepted his faults and let him play HIS game, but he just hasn't kicked on since he left.

On paper, it's been an excellent summer transfer window for us.

Two big losses in Poole and Rushworth but to keep hold of House and tie him down to a contract extension, Tyler Walker coming in as another striker option, finally signing wing backs to suit the system we want to play and really upgrade our central midfield (which started in January) has been very positive and it's shown so far in the early parts of the season.

We've now flushed out the horrendous transfer window of 2021/22 and Appleton's tippy tappy, technical, short, lightweight, PL U21 type players to what I'd say is a more L1 type squad. We're taller, stronger, more athletic, more pace and more physical than we've been previously in L1 but a squad that can still play a bit as well.

I make it a squad of 21, but realistically it's 20 because of Montsma being out for most of the season so it's a bit thin but we've got a bit more quality on the bench this season (injury depending!). Still a very young squad as well with an average age of 23, which I'm guessing will be amongst the lowest in the EFL again - our three senior players are Jackson (29), Bishop (26) and Walker (26).

Two more deals confirmed by the club - one in and one out.

We've signed Kane Hemmings from Tranmere and sold Josh March to Harrogate.

Didn't see a massive amount of March as he spent a lot of time on the sidelines but he looked like a decent enough option at League Two level. Wish him well with Harrogate.

Apparently we submitted a deal sheet for Harvey White from Tottenham. Nothing announced yet though.

So seems like the agent and/or Posh were playing silly buggers then. There’s been strong rumours all day it was the agent changing goal posts last minute. Hopefully Jono gets a new one asap!

Wonder if any other team ended up with 2 players less yesterday than they started with?

Hemmings is a weird signing, I know he's played for Evans before but it didn't sound like he was even doing particularly well in L2.

Harvey White was confirmed before the game, signed too late to have any involvement into today's match.

Did come a bit out of nowhere. I guess he was considered as a replacement for March. One of five striker options we have now, Pressley, Reid, McNeill and List the other 4. Pressley is injured, not sure how serious, might have played into our thoughts.

Caldwell has pretty much admitted that we had agreed a loan deal for Luke Harris, but it was pulled by Fulham at quarter to eleven. He came on for them today.

So its down to looking for a striker amongst unattached players this week, presumably fighting over them with Barton..

Barton said he tried to get Caldwell in as his no2
So pleased he didn’t. Caldwell has been class since coming in. I’ve been proven wrong as I wasn’t keen considering his previous jobs but he seems to have massively improved as a manager.

So in terms of free agents we may look at considering we need a no.10 and no. 9, I suspect we could look at Connor Wickham or even at a push Lyle Taylor.

Those two have just been mentioned on our forum. I thought barton would get his mate Andy Carroll in but he went to France ligue 2.
Trouble is anyone unattached is likely to be a bit off the pace

Yeah, it's not ideal. Feels like Fulham shafted us a bit, we assumed this deal was done so binned off other possibilities, now we are stuck with this.

Only other possibility is that Southend go bust and we pounce for Cardwell, but thats a bit sick really

Looking at the list of free agents strikers, there's not many that stand out. As been said, Wickham & Lyle Taylor seem to be the obvious two. I'd also take a look at Sam Winnall. Looking at Scottish strikers, which again, wouldn't surprise me, there's Alex Jakubiak too. Outside shouts would be Harvey St Clair and Stuart McKinstry

Gary Madine?

Sam Winnall seems like he’s on the decline massively.

Its all a bit weird.
Contract paperwork had to be sent to a 3rd party (who wasn't present) as his own agent is banned from representing players (??)
Agreed JCH needs to get represented by less unscrupulous people. JCH also to blame too as he could have been discussing contract changes on the phone during his travel from Portsmouth to Bristol.
If we didnt need him so much id say fcuk him now.

Rumours are we’ve agreed a deal with former WBA, Livingston defender Jack Fitzwater. People seem to like him on social media, with Stoke and Birmingham fans thinking they were gonna sign him.

Jack Moylan will be joining our Irish contingent on January 1st. An attacker currently at Shelbourne.

Wasn’t expecting us to go for another defender but he does seem like a good player, so would be pleased with this. Saw someone say he can also play RWB which would give more licence to push Rankine into an attacking role.

In other failed transfer news, our alleged target Cameron McGeehan has joined Colchester.

I haven’t been following our message board for the last few days as I’ve been on hol, but apparently he’s signed for us? Think that one came out of nowhere…

He has his uses, did well for us last season in an attacking sense - played him as a wide forward on on the left of a front three. His delivery from set plays is quite good, in our 1-1 home draw with Swindon last season he put in a delightful out swinging corner which Omar Beckles scored from.

Doesn't do the dirty stuff well though, doesn't like tackling or heading and occasionally tracking back so if you can get the rest of the team to accomodate that he'll do well for you I'd expect.

We need more of a proper number 9 striker, we've enough wide forwards. I think we was interested in Sadlier, but his contract at Bolton wasn't one we could match so moved to other targets like Jordan Graham and then Sadlier was paid up.

Well, we’ve certainly been poor at providing the strikers with service this time round, so perhaps that’s where this has come from.

But I’m surprised at the “not a grafter” bit, we never sign players like that (even forwards are expected to track back) so I’m not sure how much playing time he’ll get if he does the luxury player thing.

Anyway, I don’t know enough about him to tell whether this is a good signing or not, so we’ll just have to see.

Thought this one would be on the cards, there was a lot of noise around it a couple of months ago and then suddenly went really quiet soon after the Irish media started their normal process of whipping up articles and pushing his name out there.

Sounds like a £50k compensation deal, and those deals seem to be heavily in the favour of add-ons so it's probably a Mandroiu type fee initially.

He had one class season at Doncaster where he was scoring screamers galore in L1, got a step up to the Champ with a move to Rotherham but didn't fit their wing back system. He joined us during the period where we transitioned from our back four to a back three, we brought in the likes of Charles/Morley/Fossey/Bodvarsson/Dempsey & seen a massive upward spiral straight away as we beat Ipswich 2-0 then obliterated Sunderland 6-0 so he basically went into the same situation as the one he thought he'd managed to escape from. You could say he's a luxury player what the modern managers don't favour anymore, if you play natural wingers/inside forwards then it's a good signing for yous otherwise it'll be another waste of time on his part. Good luck to him, he's a good lad who never moaned & always seemed to pop up with a goal when he did get on the pitch.

I was initially really keen on Sadlier and you always feel a bit frustrated when a player you were linked with moves elsewhere but in hindsight I don’t think he was the right sort of player for us. We have 3 or 4 players who can play the “number 10” role, we really need another body who can play a proper hardworking centre midfield role. I think Sadlier would have been the wrong fit.

So I think we’re a touch light in midfield as two of our five centre midfielders are currently injured, one is playing deeper than we’d usually expect and one is a youth team player who graduated but hasn’t quite stepped up yet. Hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite us like last season.
