They've proper had your pants down there! Hasn't he only recently had a run of goals and then only 6? I know you've got a bit of cash floating around but this seems foolhardy in the extreme. He might come good and I know Cheltenham have improved a bit but they're still down there for a reason. Our fans are doing their nut over potentially signing a guy from the league below who has scored 16. If we'd have gone for Goodwin for that money they'd proper lose their shit! I bet Darrell Clarke is pissing himself.

I did see one of our fans make the joke that we were competing for a striker from a club who were breaking records for not scoring goals at the beginning of this season.

To be fair, they're not necessarily signing him for his goalscoring ability. I know they wouldn't have just gone on his game against them, but he absolutely battered the Oxford defenders back in November. He's been playing like that all season, when he's been fit.

When he came in last season he played his first couple of games without any fear. Then we played Vale and he was bullied by their defenders and his confidence was shot for the rest of the season. He came back this season like he'd vowed never to be bullied again, and that's exactly how he's played. His goals have almost been irrelevant compared to the rest of his play.

Regarding our run at the start without any goals, he started in two of the League games, Portsmouth and Barnsley (was a late sub in two of the others). He was arguably the best player on the pitch in both.

If he can stay fit, in a couple of years £400k will seem like a bargain. I'm not convinced he'll stay fit though and that's why I think we've got the better end of the deal.

Looks like Dan Gore from Man Utd is a goer per Fabrizio Romano. Yes he’s actually tweeted transfer news about us.

Charlton really throwing the money around aren't they.

Really don't see why you'd even consider going to Charlton as a player, feels like they're never going to get anywhere - arguably the most negative fanbase I've ever encountered.
London innit, the prospect of strolling daan the Kings Road....or more likely Old Kent Road...or clubbing it in the West End..beats slumming it in the provinces

So he's essentially had 2/3 months of half decent form? Wow, you really have had their pants down. If he's worth £400k then Garrity is worth £1 million.

One of the best in the league is CBT....surprised he isn't going higher to be honest but no doubt Derby will be paying stupid money, in spite of nearly going out of business just over a year ago.

It should push them over the line as in spite of their good form I thought they looked thoroughly average. Just like Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday, I'll be glad to get rid of them out of this league. It no longer resembles division 3 with the amount of money floating around.
It’s the first fee we’ve paid outright in 4 and a half years to be fair, and it’s roughly around £300-400k with god knows how much of that as add-ons.

Our annual turnover at this level, based on last year’s figures (£16.5m over 9 months) works out to be roughly £22m per annum and our wage bill last year was said to be restricted to £8m so it’s not like we’re not playing with house money either.

Interesting to see what happens with Uche now. Does that impact our moves for strikers.

Dan Gore though for Alfie isn’t a bad replacement, United rave about him and seem stunned he is going to league one.

Got to say after years of signing some real dross on loan our new approach to it this season has been nuts, Gore, Arblaster, Devine and Williams.

This is the second of these sort of stories making the national media about one of our academy prospects Liam Brazier. First one was The Sun linking him with Dortmund now the Mirror is linking him with Barca. His agent is really shooting for the stars here given he’s yet to play outside of Pizza Trophy games.

Latest rumour is that we are signing Joel Nouble from Livingston. Not a striker, 0 goals and 1 assist in 20 games, sounds like our usual signing

Suggestions that Carlisle and Rovers are chasing Jack Marriott?
I'd be very envious if either pull that off.

Reportedly Bradford now want £500k for Jake Young. There is zero chance anyone would pay that for him so unless he forces a move by downing tools or something I think that one is dead certainly for us and I’d guess Exeter. Marriott would be a great signing for most in this league.

Bristol Rovers?

If it’s Bristol then no chance for us looking at the league positions.

If it’s Forest Green Rovers we might stand a chance.

Seems like the deal is very close. I mean, he’s a big fucking unit who will certainly be a handful but that scoring record is worrying! 7 goals in SPL last season is more favourable but even so, prolific he is not.

Why would no one pay that for him? Oxford just spent 400k on a player with 7 EFL goals to his name, Jake Young has 27.

I trust Ed Waldron and our recruitment team. They won't get everyone right but they've got far more right than wrong since we haven't had Karl Robinson screwing it up as he did the previous January and summer before. He apparently suits how we play and he is young.

Our recruitment is heavily data led initially and then it moves onto what type of person they are (ie. do they fit into our culture and that they aren't a cock etc). This recruitment approach has got us some good players (and some good money) who were relatively unknown such as Luke McNally, Mark Sykes, Gavin Whyte, Elliott Moore and Stephan Negru.

I haven't seen him play so can't say what he is like or if he will be a success (or not) but as said our signings have been far more hit than miss since the summer so I trust the recruitment team.

Also, I'd add with the dearth of strikers (rather than forwards) currently then there is a considerable premium added onto any fee for them. I really wouldn't be surprised if you are doubling compared to most other positions.

Your recruitment team comes out with same platitudes as ours. It filters down from the Premier League I suppose who regularly spend obscene amounts on bang average players. The sooner the draft system is adopted, the better in my book.

It isn't platitudes when their actions are producing results. We've gone from relegation candidates to being in a promotion battle after 1 window of a squad rebuild. They've also made us £millions.

You've got the choices of Bob Hope and no hope on a draft system being introduced in English football.

Hearing Aaron Drinnan from Orient to Carlisle for 50k. Can't believe anyone would pay a fee for him at the moment. I would take the money like a shot.

Sounds like we might be continuing our signing of young players from LOI with Senan Mullen. Won't be one for the first team for 18 months, so will presumably play for the Academy but train with the first team.

More generally, I think we've still got a little bit of business to do. Adelakun and Brown to get moved on and we're in need of a right winger and possibly a proper left back depending on how we're going to set up now. I'd not say no to another CM either.

Close to signing Miles Peart-Harris on loan from Brentford. Replacement for the injured Alex Robertson. Big shoes to fill, but has more experience than Alex, played for Forest Green last season and has been in Brentfords FA cup teams and been on the bench a few times this season.

Myles Peart-Harris set to be confirmed to sign on loan from Brentford today. I'd be happy with that as we're crying out for a number 10 and he seemed to shine last season in an admittedly dire FGR team.

It kind of arks back to what Flitcroft said in the Ale and Vale interview early season as to why we decided to go with the formation we did and focus on number 10's rather than strikers.

Some clubs he said in summer in L1 and 2 basically bid huge money for strikers which pushed the market price up elsewhere, hence why a bang average League One striker on a 4 goal scoring streak mid season went for 400k.

Its nuts, but this is the issue with certain clubs spending big at these levels in the summer on everyone else.

Looks like we’re signing Jack Price. Be a ridiculous signing for League One that. We’re only getting him because he’s a Salop lad and him and his family are big Town supporters. Injured until February/March which is the downside to the deal.

Who's signing him with no manager?

Wellens has been talking to one of our podcasts:

-He Expects a signing to be made this week, looks like a pernament deal from somewhere as negotiations regarding the sell on clause is apparently holding it up.
-We've had one offer from a League One side for one of our players, which is moving along slowly.
-New contracts have been offered to Ruel Sotiriou, Rob Hunt and Dan Happe.
