Bid is apparently £400k plus add-ons. Not bad for a player who cost us £20k last January and has been decent for 6 months.

He also does get an awful lot of niggles.

He's been great for us this season, but I'm not nearly as disappointed as I thought I'd be.
400k is decent for him, especially given what Alfie went for. Would have liked him to come to us but the niggle problems would worry me.

Now getting worried we won’t get a decent striker in as we seem to be going all guns blazing towards a wingerless system with CBT rumoured to be going to Derby

I know age plays a huge part in transfer fees but I still can't believe we've got 150k more for Will Goodwin (6 goals in 28 games) than we did for May (43 goals in 85 games).

It's a crazy fee full stop for this level. No wonder clubs are going to shit.

The reality is it’s now a standard fee for this level.

Over the past few seasons OUFC have sold £15-£20 million worth of players.

Luke McNally, Rob Atkinson, Kemar Roofe, Callum O’Dowda, Marvin Johnson, Rob Dickie, Shandon Baptiste and Gavin Whyte, not to mention a handful of players that have been sold for six figures.

The Premier League and subsequently Championship clubs have spoiled the transfer market meaning clubs like Oxford will play their own role in the food chain and sell a promising player for a couple of million once a season.

It’s bonkers, though it’s sadly not out of the ordinary any longer.

Got to love gentlemen's agreements.

The board will never be forgiven for the Alfie sale (not the selling him, but the peanuts he went for). That they're getting pelters for this Goodwin deal baffles me though.

Sky Sports reporting that Charlton and Wycombe are looking to sign Uche off us and we’ve given him permission to speak to other clubs. I can’t for the life of me think we’d actually allow this unless there’s a replacement lined up especially with him just starting to get a partnership with Wilson.

Ridiculous if true, I know hes not been great but we are really struggling for numbers at the moment and he has formed a great partnership with Wilson.

We'd be stupid to agree to Wycombe before the weekend as well.

nah, if M£neybags Charlton come a-sniffin' then there's no way he's going to choose us over the chance to play Appleton-ball.

This is an odd one though, we've just signed two forwards already this transfer window, and we only play with one dedicated frontman, so not sure how we'd make Uche fit in...?

I think if we were interested, it'd be because Vokes gets knacked after 60 mins and so we had a sub...but then Uche is not a target man (he's shit in the air) so it's really not a like for like signing.

To be fair going from signing JCH potentially to ending up with Uche would be a big drop off! He doesn't really score goals and his only one was against Charlton last time out.

All seems a bit odd as we seem to have just found a way to make him effective and essentially give James Wilson freedom to do what he does, Uche basically takes the battering which means less injury risk to Willo and more space for him to do his thing.

but... we do seem like we are still going off the Bradford striker who's been at Swindon so maybe a smallish fee gives us more financial power in that bidding war...

Would prefer to keep him and I would certainly be furious if we let him go in time to play us on Saturday like we do Anthony Grant!

I’d love Uche here…

Our ‘unprecedented’ January transfer kitty is still largely intact. Purrington is a good signing and Harris on loan seems good. However, what we need is two forwards minimum, but still no news and it doesn’t seem like anything’s imminent.

Strikers we’ve been linked to so far:
Jake Young
Harry Cardwell
Theo Bair
Joe Taylor

Obviously Taylor is now off the table and no way are we paying silly money for Young. I’d imagine Cardwell will cost too much as Southend will probably slap a silly price tag on him which probably isn’t worth it for a National League striker. Bair might still happen - been reliably informed he was at our training ground last week, but I’d have expected him to sign by now unless the deal has hit a snag.

Uche is one of those players who a lot of the time looks completely devoid of ability at all but has all the physical attributes you’d want in a player and just enough times will do something that brings the crowd to its feet. Even if he rarely threatens to score himself if he’s got talented footballers around him such as an Alfie May for Charlton then he’s useful to have. Certainly got cult hero qualities about him.

Football Insider now is reporting Charlton are in advanced talks over Uche. I’m not thrilled about the prospect of having to watch Ryan Loft start for us (it’s bad enough him coming off the bench) so just hope either Jake Young is a goer or we move on asap.

As i said Charlton didnt look like they needed forwards against us, they needed a new defence (like us!)

Assume we are getting a fee so will be seen a good signing in terms of making a profit to re-invest I guess, Loft on Saturday isn't great.

I agree the defence is the issue but it's because we're looking to switch from 3 up front to 2 up front. We currently have no one to partner Alfie up top with Leaburn and Aneke injured. I'm expecting Blackett Taylor to go as well which is a huge part of that attacking threat and the reason we'd be switching to a 2.

We're exhausting every 6ft+stirker in the league. JCH and Goodwin were long term options but given we could be dragged into a relegation battle we now could just be looking for someone to come in, ensure we stay up and be back up next season (or start if they do well enough)

Uche is 6ft but he isn't great in the air, his header he scored v you was the exception (and the keeper should of saved it)

His general hold up play looked good though and I think that's what we are after unless that was also only really against us

He can bully defenders but is hit and miss, he has been maligned a bit, that was his first goal and his touch is either sublime or terrible with little in between. Essentially he doesn't know what he is going to do which conversely can bamboozle defenders as if he doesn't know what he is going to do, neither can they!

He has been awful at times, but had started to come into his own since James Wilson returned to fitness and they formed a decent partnership. The issue we have is we signed Ryan Loft, he is useless, then Uche who doesn't really score goals so seem to be prepared to spend and go after a goal scorer but guess that means taking money for Uche. (We cant sell or let Loft go as he has played for us and Rovers already this season).

He would be a good foil for May and your lively wide men I reckon in the way he has been for Chislett and Wilson.

Sam Smith to leave Reading - I’d imagine everyone in this league will be on the blower to his agent as we speak.

He's a really anomaly is Uche. Had a good game against Charlton and his touch was pretty good (seems like they're taking a leaf out of our transfer policy of signing players who have a good game against us) . In other games he has been dreadful and considering he's been with us for a few months, he's often blowing out of his arse after 60 minutes.

As others have said, at times he looks like he's never seen a football but if you play a talented player off him (like Wilson), then he can be effective. If he scores more than 5 goals in the second half of the season I'd be amazed.

If Charlton are desperate to sign any striker (irrelevant of ability) and they're daft enough to throw a 6 figure transfer fee at a player with 6 months to go on his contract and who would probably be firmly on the bench for them next season if they have any aspiration to be promoted, then good luck to them. It's a no brainer for us...we get one of the higher paid players off the books who I would hope we would be able to replace with better in the summer.

My only concern is the here and now. If we only have Loft as a real replacement then we're in big trouble...the Isthmian league is too high a level for him. Uche is not great but he looks like Brazilian Ronaldo in comparison.

We would need to ensure that we had a couple of replacements in place before agreeing to anything.

Crosby in his press conference today was asked about taking Dan Gore on loan from United and he didn’t exactly deny interest. Was the sort of answer you don’t tend to give about players under contract to other clubs so maybe something in it.

Uche sounds as good as done.

Can’t say I’m overly thrilled, but whatever.

A lot of “gave our defence a lot of problems the other week” from our fans, bloody hell, if that’s the criteria we could have just walked to any local park on a Sunday and pulled literally anyone off the pitch and signed them.

Crosby suggested nothing concrete as yet but some interest and was training with us today.

FWIW I think Alfie May will enjoy playing alongside him. Just don’t use him as a lone forward, the results have not been good when we’ve done that.

But yeah I’ve seen that justification on us signing players in the past Loft being a recent example, so did Byron Moore going further back and he was trash too. More a statement of how bad we are than that players ability.

Yeah I was just scrolling through Twitter and thought it was local journo Rich Cawley saying we’d won the race to sign him was but was actually O’Rourke who incidentally has just this second tweeted to say we’re in advanced talks with Ladapo.

Ladapo would be a hell of a good signing. If it’s him and Uche I’d say in all honesty that would be some decent business with how the January market usually works. I’m glad we’ve now played you twice.

Some suggestion the Jake Young deal is done on our forum and will be announced tomorrow… unsure on this one… obviously if he repeats his form at Swindon great signing but guess that’s the big if…

Assume we’ve got decent money from Charlton for Uche (great business if it is 6 figures) and used that to up our bid possibly.

Ladapo would be a cracking signing. I thought he was playing at Ipswich. You desperately need to save some cash for defenders though!
