I think it's more about giving players 6 months to gel before we can try and actually challenge the top 6 next season if possible but think we are still someway of that. Our recruitment the last few seasons has been dreadful so it's nice to sign what looks like some solid players
TBF you always seem to have decent players at Charlton but somehow never get them playing as a team?

One of our fans has suggested Kofi Balmer is going back to Palace (hasn't really been great) and we are to loan Rhys Williams from Liverpool, would be a decent signing on paper... although as we know football is played on grass.

That sounds about right. I always seem to think we have a strong set of players and then they get Charltonised and then go on to be world class at their next club. The board seem to want to give Appleton a chance and I don't think the squad is going to ever play well under him sadly.

Yeah, I think this is more about building blocks for next season rather than some fanciful ideas of play-offs this season.

If we are to leave this division this season it certainly won’t be via the top end.

Can only apologise. Although I'm much happier raiding Cheltenham than when we went through a stage of exclusively signing Swindon players. One of our ITKs has said we've met your valuation for Goodwin so I may have misinterpreted it when saying a bid has been accepted. For context this ITK is usually very reliable
They'll probably let him go for even less than May which, given Goodwin's age and form this season, would be another brainless decision. But our board aren't interested in us staying in League 1 so that's what will happen. Hope he does well for you with May.

The only coping mechanism I have for if Goodwin goes is that he does appear to be made of glass, so if we can get shitloads of money for a crock, like we did Steve Gillespie and Colchester, then I'll sleep soundly at night.

It will be a slap in the face for Clarke, working wonders and having the rug pulled from beneath him, and still expect him to work miracles no doubt

We've got ourselves a fantastic manager but there's been a lot of frustration with the board which will only grow if they don't handle this correctly. And DC doesn't strike me as the type to stick around if he doesn't get the backing he needs (and rightly so).

If they end up selling Goodwin the Cheltenham board would be well advised not to sell DC short on funds to spend to replace him or he won’t think twice of walking or making his feelings known at the very least. That was largely why he left Walsall for us when their owner flogged Adebayo and DC wasn’t thrilled at being given little to replace him with.

The lad from Liverpool has been in and around their senior team, so he must have something about him. Hasn't played at all in his recent loan to Scotland though.

Oxford and others supposed to be interested. That will drive the price up.

Usual suspects linked to pretty much every player

Aye, don’t forget to throw in the obligatory “Wrexham are also interested” just to get that price up a little bit too and you can copy and paste most rumours for each player at this level.

From what I recall, he had obvious talent, pace and skill, but could often frustrate in terms of trying to take too many people on, showboating and never picking the simple pass.

Certainly one that could be very exciting if coached in the right direction, the raw ability is absolutely there but like I said, immaturity/ego sometimes lets him down, and not being a team player.

Well, this is what I posted about Wolves’ Chem Campbell when he went on loan to Charlton earlier this season…

…and now he’s coming back to us apparently.

Bit indifferent to be honest, he’s definitely talented, but thinks he’s better than he is.

And from what I understand, Charlton have done nothing to beat that out of him. So…he won’t be any great shining hope.

Sounds like we've had a bid accepted for Will Goodwin. Liked the look of him when he played us earlier this season. Looks like he only played 12 games last season but could hopefully help get even more out of May
I read that we were in for him. Would never compete with you. I mean how many strikers do you need??

According to a generally reliable ITK on our forum, both Charlton and ourselves have just had bids turned down for Goodwin.

From what I've seen of them, they're absolutely fine in attack. They need defenders! I never understand a club's policy to just bring in as many attackers as possible and hope for the best.

Not sure why everyone thinks we have a lot of strikers.

We have Aneke who is never fit, Leaburn who’s likely out for the season, 19 year old Daniel Kanu who we had to recall from Southend as we’re so depleted in that department and Alfie May, who himself has just returned from injury.

We’re absolutely desperate for one hence, trying for everyone. We’ll only sign one.

So four strikers then.

Two of whom won’t be fit for the rest of the season and haven’t been fit for the past 2 months and possibly not here next season and one who is only around the squad because of said injuries.

I’m being very generous including Aneke.

If you're worried about fitness, then as much as my post above was tongue in cheek, you will have to take into account how little football Goodwin has played. He comes back, plays 3 or 4 games, and is outstanding in all of them, then is out for another 2 or 3.

I've got a feeling we're going to only accept stupid offers for him. We don't need to sell, we're not skint, and the board will be weighing up whether losing him is worth the cost of relegation. He's in the top 3 of our players of the season, probably top 2 with Liam Sercombe, so to let him go without DC's blessing will be absolutely brutal.

Sounds like he’d fit in well then.

I suspect you’re right, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up paying it out of desperation.

We supposedly bid around £450/500k for JCH which now looks dead in the water, so guess we could go higher knowing Goodwin’s resale value is higher and wage demands will be a lot lower.

Equally, it wouldn’t surprise to miss out on all targets and we end up getting some other clogger on loan.

We’ve signed a 21 year old called Tony. Don’t trust him already for that and that alone.

He was a weird one for us. Looked very good when he first started and then he got dropped from the squad completely, sounds like he fell out with Appleton. Potential attitude issues but then again Appleton has fallen out with a few players.

Came back in again recently and didn’t really set the place alight but there’s clearly some talent. That being said he got a couple of goals which isn’t an awful return considering how little he played.

Sounds like we are now gearing up to play a 3-5-2 so he’s surplus to requirements

It does seem like Charlton are just being linked with every forward in the division and out of favour in the Championship

Quicker to name strikers they aren't linked with. I don't doubt we aren't far behind.

For the £200k Bradford reportedly want for him either yourselves or Exeter are welcome to him. No way should we be paying that for some guy who has had one decent spell in his entire career.

Agreed, but he’ll go for a lot more than £200k.

Charlton and Oxford bids turned down apparently.

JP is usually on the ball, but his info is fed to him by agents, so there's always a question of how much an agent is touting his client.
