Mal Benning joins on a one year deal. Looks to be a free transfer and with a one year deal there’s no risk. If he’s shite then just play either Thorpe/Shipley/Parker until Nurse returns.

Wish him well, personally I just don’t think he’s up to it at this level but who knows. Only thing I question on our side of things is doing this just a couple of days before the season kicks off even if he was only going to be a squad player going forward. Means we are reliant on Grant staying injury free until a replacement is found.

Max Mata confirmed on a three year deal. Sligo Rovers fans can’t believe we’ve got him as they think he should have been going to the Championship. They said that they wouldn’t take less than 400/500k (LOL no chance we’d pay that). Fee most likely about 150-200k. Apparently Carlisle were interested in him too.

Very, very happy with this one from what I’ve read and seen. Think this will turn out to be an incredible investment and signing.

They all say that over there, I think they have a higher opinion of the strength of the LOI than what the reality is. It's a hugely varied league from Shamrock down to the sides at the bottom of the league, the gap in the league is probably similar to the NL a few years ago where there were still proper PT sides knocking about.

We've got two(?) and trying for a third from the LOI.

Also send our young lads out there as well for loan spells.

Another young lad, Ahui, who, following on from the above, was on loan in the LOI last season, spent pre-season with us and has now gone to Ayr United for the season. This'll be the start of the final three or four young lads going out on loan I suspect.

Not that he was ever likely to start for us, but he was the only actual RWB in our squad.

Sounds like from Flickers comments he triggered his contract extension but we told him we wouldn’t feature with the new signings and young lads coming through.

Hhhhaaaaaaa if you want someone who falls over/ kicks it of play/ gets pushed off the ball/ throws his hands up in the area( all the time) can’t defend /attack but absolutely gives his all, he’s your man!!
Absolutely fabulous move from vale this.
I couldn’t be happier with this, and am feeling a lot more confident about our management

As I said earlier, it's an odd signing if he's going to be your first choice. Lovely guy but nowhere near this level.

Interested to see what Stevenage bring. For the 2nd v 3rd clash in April they just about managed to sell out the 900 behind the goal about a day before the game.

Sky/Rob Dorsett reporting Derby in talks with us over Michael Smith. I’d be happy for us to let him go and free up space for another striker. Scored 20 last season and is a grafter but he’s technically really poor, I think he’d struggle with the step up and new passing game we’re playing.

Is it true you’re charging them £30? Not that my club is one to talk charging £29 to a select few……

Derby's transfer strategy seems awful to me, they should be bringing in players who could be there for the next 4-5 years and have the potential to step up to the Championship. If you want experience, then that should be added via the loan market so you're not lumbered with a bunch of 30+ year olds if you go up.

The likes of Bradley, Nelson, Elder, Washington, and potentially Smith are going to be surplus if they go up via the play-offs.

Obviously got a great youth team but seems like they're being cherry picked this year.

Na it’s £24, which is still too much but the fella made an error on the graphic

Also, just realised I put that in the transfers thread….

Totally agree -- They seem to be bringing in names that did well a few years ago.

James Wilson has signed a short term deal until January to prove his fitness and earn a longer deal. Obviously chuffed to bits!

What a surprise. Feels like it suits all parties at least. Still need at least another forward regardless.

If we can get another experienced one in then I think we are about there with ideally a left back and the odd loanee to pack us out.

Wilson has had two years to prove his fitness... he didn`t. Mal Benning at his best is a very good player at this level. but when he is bad he is unbelievably bad.

True. He didn’t miss much of the promotion season though (played over 40 games) and you could argue last season was mainly impact injuries, hacked down from behind at Wycombe and Hillsborough.

It does seem to be though maybe some of it is confidence with his injuries and that’s what he needs to get past in the next few months as if we get 2021/22 Willo we will have a very solid striker for this level.

Benning didn’t really have many good games at this level and that area was a huge weak point last season. I wish him well and not many Valiants have scored at Wembley but he was average at best and at his worst a disaster against Peterborough and Charlton for example. Not sure he’s best suited to wing back where your more exposed though.

No we were not interested in him ever, he isn't good enough for us.

He does not 'match our ambitions'.

We’re closing in on the signing of striker Marcus Carver.

Medical early next week apparently.

We apparently beat off competition from numerous clubs including a League 1 club. Judging by these reports, you were the other League 1 club in for him.

The one at Southport? Surely not!? He’s nothing more than Conference North and he’s 29 so not exactly like he can in improve much.

Maybe when Carver just mentioned your ambitions, that is a swift return to League 2 (no offence HG).

Just a rumour doing the rounds but reckon there’s truth to it. He’s cutting short his current loan spell to get the move.

He’ll probably just be in as back up, 5th or 6th choice striker. But our manager obviously sees something in him to make the step up.

But yeah Carver to Carlisle here we go.
