James Collins of Derby by the looks of it. A decent target man, so we might actually win some headers in the final third and be able to hold the ball up.

20ish goals for Derby last season.

He was rumoured to be coming to Rotherham last week and the two main forums went into meltdown because he's 34.

Apparently it doesn't matter whether he is still any good or not, we've already got too many 30 + year olds.

As it happens, they were panicking for nowt because SE says he's a good player but not on his radar.

I'll laugh if he gets you 10 goals, the same people will be saying we should have been in for him.

We're still after Michael Smith from Sheffield Wednesday like we were in the summer. Wasn't in their squad today.

Another old striker.

Looks like Dominic Gape is likely to sign at Shrewsbury. Left Eastleigh after a short term deal, played under Ainsworth at Wycombe. Can't say I know anything about him

14 in the league and yet to hit the target this season.

Carl Winchester has had his contract mutually terminated so that he can return to Northern Ireland to be with his family. Not fair to stand in the way of that, especially with a young daughter

Dominic Gape now confirmed to the end of the season

He is a very good player with a big caveat that he’s made of glass - and that’s the only reason he would have dropped down as far as Eastleigh in the first place.

I guess it’s a kind of “roll the dice and hope for the best” sort of signing. I mean yeah, any signing is that to some extent, but this has the extra risk factor of a dubious injury record - which is particularly dodgy for a combative midfielder, given the physicality of that role.

Can only wish him the best at STFC.

Lewis Fiorini departing on loan to Dundee United. Nowhere near good enough for us really.

Leaves us with a squad of about 20 players with all the loans going back and Fiorini and Sam Hughes being loaned out. I'd expect 3 or 4 in at least.
Like Appleton, it didn't take long for Challinor to work him out.

James Collins signs for us from Derby until Summer 2026. Club has option for another year.
Pleased with that, I think he's probably in the upper part of that second category of strikers in L1.

Doesn't offer us the pace we probably need but if we continue to want to his strikers on the diagonal then we need to actually win some first contacts and he should do that. Plenty of experience, goals and promotions down the years as well. 19 goals last season, 14 in L1.

That's three over 30's we've got in the squad now - unheard of in the last few years. I think three seasons ago our oldest player was 26 and squad average age of 21.

Collins would have been a perfect alternative for Smith for us.

However neither now look like happening, and its getting firmer that we will be recalling Sam Dalby from Scotland

Strong rumours we are signing Dion Charles, him and Taylor would be a massive upgrade on a couple of the strikers we have had to play this season, pretty much anyone would be though to be fair.
What have you done to Rhys Healey he used to be very decent

He still is but can not stay fit, couple of bad injuries prior to joining us.Latest comeback from injury was Saturday, the hope is we can manage his minutes better now we have Taylor and Charles.

He also is a tireless worker and runner and will happily lead a press for you if that’s what you do and is needed. He’s not fast but can be mobile out of possession if you get what I mean.

He’s clearly not championship level anymore but he was always a decent finisher in the box

Reports we've had a bid accepted for Ryan Longman from Hull. We were linked with him in the summer.
Dont know much about him.

Got another loan potentially coming in according to Nigel today, no idea on position I’m hoping striker.

Gregory went off Saturday with his knee giving him issues still, sounds nothing major but making me very nervous.

Very much get the feeling we are saving our money for the summer unless something too good to turn down comes available, we’ve picked up some great signings in January but only at a bargain price.

Yeah a group of us said the same thing saturday regarding saving until the summer, with the FA cup money pretty much paying for what we paid for Will Evans, we’ve pretty much got what we got for DKD in the summer to spend.

A loan forward/AM would be ideal, Akins will work hard regardless but showing his age a little and Waine well, yeah, so someone to back up would be brilliant.
