So what's the latest on the rumours as Nathan Jones yesterday indicated we have outside interest in a player/s with inquiries and there was one specific player we still hoped to sign. Any inside knowledge or rumours on these other than the reported WBA interest in Stacey. Is Jones target a replacement or to strengthen?

So the Jack Marriott saga is over and he has joined Derby County for £x million.

Sky say it was £3m rising to £5m including add ons, but I’d be surprised if it was that low.

Anyway, we’re in the money regardless.

To think how much you could have made though if you had just had a someone at the club who recognized his talent.

Instinct is it's Michael Duffy, Irish winger at Dundalk. Mick Harford went over to watch him earlier in the month.

To be fair I think it was one of those deals that just worked for everyone. He had a poor second half of the season and was rightly going in to last season as 4th choice behind Hylton, Vessel and Collins. We got offered a decent sum and let him go. We still got promoted and now have a little financial top up, Peterborough got a great season out of him and made a big profit, Derby got their new striker and JM is in the Championship.

He wouldn’t have been the same player if he stayed with us and we likely wouldn’t have been the same team. No point having a player not suited to your system so move on and build a squad of players to how you want to play.

I always think it’s perhaps less about the quality of player you have and more about building a cohesive 11 who all fit to the way you want to play. Accrington are a pretty good example of this IMO, a cohesive unit who all fit to their style and how they want to play.

JM didn’t really fit in that in the end even though you could see how good he was, we were going in a different direction.

It was best for both of us and it’s all worked out very well indeed for both parties. Not sure how anyone can argue otherwise.

Happy with the team so far, just a back up keeper and a few forwards now.

Hard to say didn’t get to see him much, what we did see he does get pulled out of position easily but then Fergie seemed to spend a lot of time putting square pegs in round holes. He’s young so you could have a gem with the right coaching.

What an utterly misinformed and totally uneducated comment.

I wouldn't take much notice of any comments he makes. Complete wind up merchant with very little brain power.

First signing of the summer is centre half/defensive midfielder Kenny Dougall from Sparta Rotterdam. Last defender we signed from the Dutch second division was Arjan de Zeeuw from Telstar (the team Dougall left for Sparta) so I'll take that as a good omen.

One of the players we have been linked with over the summer and may have been the player that Jones has been talking about as the "one more" that he wanted, Luke Onien seems to be off to Sunderland if twitter is to be believed.

Would have quite liked him I think from what i have seen of him, so a bit of a shame.

Good luck to Luke O'Nien at Sunderland .

Did very well at Wycombe having been released by us a couple of years ago.

yes, disappointed to lose O'Nien but we are by necessity a selling club, so it is what it is.

Luke O’Nien was the most consummate professional during his loan spells with ourselves and I think it says a lot about his conduct that Wycombe fans have nothing but the best to say about him for his 3 years at the club.

He’s an absolute workhorse who will run himself into the ground and I wish him all the best at Sunderland.

Anyone know what the fee was?

Just spotted this on the Sunderland forum...

What a classy club Wycombe Wanderers are coming across as.

We've finally made another signing. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on a season long loan from Man United.

He will be Conor Towsend's replacement who is set to join West Brom.

Luton RB Jack Stacey might be heading to West Brom as well. They had a bid turned down for him before but he's only on the bench for today's friendly v Notts County when he was due to start.

Not sure you source but if that’s anywhere close to true then easy decision. JJ is just as good and younger too.

Kind of sounds like it might be true from NJs post match comments as well. (Just on the interview, it kind of sounds like Onien was the one he wanted to bring to me).

We’d need to bring in some kind of back up full back though so that would need to be factored in you would think.

If that happened and with the Marriott sell on money added in, we would have some decent funds available to bring in some new faces too, so could get interesting.

I mean I love my Stacey, there is a bit of a man crush there, but that’s a great offer for him (and for him as well). I didn’t expect we’d receive an offer of that magnitude for him.

Would be disappointed to see Stacey go, he was fantastic last season. We do however have a ready made replacement in Justin though, a huge number of people would argue he should be starting anyway. If we get one years service and a big transfer fee after signing him for 50k a year ago, it will be bloody good business.

According to the WBA forum the fee is going to be £1.7m. Wow.

If that's true, that would be around £5.5-£6m incoming the last two seasons and spent maybe less than a fifth of that.

Kind of surprised WBA would put that much money on the table for him. I think he’s great and really like him as a player, but thought they would perhaps be looking at someone with a bit more Championship pedigree perhaps I guess? He’s got all the attributes I think but not sure he is Championship quality just yet and you’d assume they would be targeting top end of that division. Not surprised he’s has interest at that level, just the club that’s interested I think is higher calibre than I expected perhaps.

If it is 1.7 (or even just 1 million) it’s great business on our part I think and pretty much a no brainer to sell. Good luck to him, gave us a great season and always worked his back side off even when he had a poorer game you could never question the effort.
