Amazing how clubs have found dosh to buy players but couldn’t afford to finish the season, if there is a second wave of covid-19 (which the government seem to think there will be) will these clubs cry poverty that they can’t afford the testing and finish the next season abruptly.

Fair do’s bringing in free transfers on small contracts but this could be one absolutely horrific season in the lower leagues if the second wave hits the country, no fans reduces income massively and another possible season of curtailment unless testing is funded by PL or EFL. Basically make sure your team has the best start next season when voting decides our fates.

If there are no fans allowed in next season then there's no point even playing any games. There will be clubs going bust right, left and centre.

Also clubs voted to curtail the season because it was what was best for them, not what was best for Sunderland, what a surprise.

Covid did us both a favour as you were somehow worse than us in that last game.

Good excuse to use rather than see your multimillion pound squad bottle it again...

All confirmed:-
Scott High (season long from Huddersfield)
Rekeil Pyke (Two year deal after being released by Huddersfield)
Josh Daniels (Two year deal option of a third on an undisclosed fee from Glenavon)
Rekeil Pyke works hard and got a couple of goals last year when on loan with us. He's a good lad but not sure he's a good enough player for L1. Hope he proves me wrong, but not against Dale!

His enthusiasm also leads to the occasional mis-timed (rather than malicious) tackle, and the inevitable lecture from the ref. A timely chant of "Don't tell him your name, Pyke" did save him from a couple of yellows at Spotland... :)

I’ve watched him a couple of times myself when he was on loan at Wrexham, again, not sure he’s good enough for League 1 but he’s a young lad so there’s a chance for him yet. He’ll most likely be 4th choice striker for us behind Cummings, Udoh and another striker that we bring in.

Bozzy to Burton! Shame, absolute warrior and whilst tempted to keep him, he just doesn't fit in with our model although I would have offered him a year on reduced terms - wonder if we did? Hopefully he stays fit and one of my favourite players since returning to the EFL. Burton have got two solid players and pro's with the right minerals. Both will be very warmly welcomed back to the Bank.

Fair play Burton.

Yep, pretty much my thoughts too. MA definitely going down the younger route this season and most of the higher earners were likely to be offered reduced terms. Not sure how many games you will get out of Bozzie but he will always give everything he has got, he would probably play one with one leg missing. Best of luck Michael.

Two good signings for Burton.

I'd have liked to have seen Bozzie offered something as well but as with Eardley, age wasn't on his side and at that age you can't really include them in any long term strategy. The only concern over him really was the injuries he picked up last season. His calf muscles just seem to pack in. Makes you wonder if/how many times he played through the pain barrier under Cowley because when Appleton came in, he seemed to insinuate that he needed some proper rest and recovery.

He's an absolute warrior though. Strong as an Ox, head it, kick it, decent enough on the ball but just, as with Eardley, lacks that little bit of pace.

Hardly ever hear anything of him. I think he did one interview in this time here. He turns up, plays, gets an 8/10, goes home. Repeat.

Payne started off well and tailed off doesn't seem an MA player and if I remember was woeful up at Sunderland - not the only one mind. Must be on a wedge in terms of wages, too expensive if MA sees him as a bit part player. I'd like to give him another go but if he's a top earner which I suspect then he needs to leave.

We’ve been linked with Jack Payne from Lincoln. Any info on that Imps fans?

Alan Nixon linking Payne with a move to Swindon. On his day Jack has all the skill in the word and started last season on fire. Looked a great signing and one that seemed to be worthy of his healthy contract. Then he seemed to lose his way a little with where he was being played and when MA took over he has hardly had a sniff in the squad. Probably our highest earner (or one of them) so if he gets a move elsewhere it would probably benefit all parties.

Started off really well but is very much a 'nearly' player and is very busy and involved but ultimately it fizzes out and he doesn't really impact games the longer he went on, which is a similar story to all his other Club's. He's not quite cute enough in and around the box to be a number 10 IMO. On one hand, he gives away possession and loses the ball because he's trying to make something happen in the final third but on the other hand he's too sloppy.

As has been said, after the high earners had been released, he's probably one of our highest earner now so we need to shift him on, especially as he isn't in MA's plans.

He was at Daggers before us, so he was probably not a massive wage. He was released by us. Easily good enough for most league one sides. On his day he's the best target man in the league. Isn't going to get you 15 plus goals, but a steady 10-15 plus a ton of assists. Can play decent at the back if needed to. Bit too "nice" at times and will get pulled all over the shop by some of the stronger CBs in the league and the refs will give it against him. Was the main reason Curtis, Lowe and Evans got as many goals as they did when were top in the 18/19 season .When he got injured around xmas we really struggled

Lee Brown signed a new deal - also signed Sean Raggett on permanant after his loan. If he can continue where he left off last season he'll be one of the best CBs in the division. Hardly put a foot or header wrong. If Whatmough can have an injury free season him and Raggett will be hard to get the better off .

No surprises in how Gillingham are going to approach games then! Both him and Akinde are physically strong strikers, but not particularly good in front of goal. The only time Oliver got into double figures was in the NL with us I think.

We had Oliver when he got released from Sheffield Wednesday and was struggling to find a Club, then selling him to Crewe (which seemed a weird move given his strengths were his physical attributes rather than technical ones you associate with Crewe players). He'll win everything in the air but technically was below average here. Play to his strengths like Northampton did, and I think you will, and he'll do a good job.

Yep just signed, any good?

More of a cult figure than a good striker really. Has scored 9 goals in his last 80 games in League 2.
He’s a head on a stick and is good at that 70% of the time

Payne sounds like a typical Wellens signing. Got everything but not consistently performing for whatever reason.

My only query is that if he’s a top earner at Lincoln, have we found the magic money tree somewhere. We’ve dished out 3 year contract to DJ, a 3 year contract to Taylor Curran and new contracts to Grant, Fryers, Lyden etc.

There were rumours of somebody investing in the club but no idea who. Or maybe Power is spending the yet to be seen Jayden Bogle sell on money!

That's probably a good description, you get some target men who can direct a header and have awareness to do it but Oliver is definitely a 'just get your head on it' kinda guy.

Not sure about having everything, it seemed more of a new signing bounce than realistically being able to reach his early game level all the time. He'll always be liked by fans because he works incredibly hard and will put a shift in but eventually you sit back and wonder what he actually offers.

Seem to remember the ref being a disgrace and ur lot falling over all match conning him just like Wycombe done every time they took a lead but that’s all history now, we weren’t great that match either mind which didn’t help and you did deserve the win tbh, i don’t want anyone to go bust but weighted ppg was a disgrace and judging by how the Prem and championship turned out just proves it. I just hope that any club who does go out and spends money doesn’t pull the skint card and we can’t afford testing if that’s what it comes too. Us included.

Evans Bingo:
1. Spoke to 'insert name drop - Sir Alex/Martin O'Neill who recommended the boy.
2. The boy turned down several more financially lucrative contracts elsewhere to come here.
3. I have the lowest budget in the league.

Jack Payne started like he was going to be player of the season but the opposition soon worked out how lightweight he was they just bumped him off the ball.
Will miss Bostwick and Eardley far more but Bostwick was starting to pick up injuries related to a back problem. As has been said Eardley got caught out more than before following promotion.
They were on decent money here, wonder what Burton have offered considering Clough left due to finances.

What would a top earner at Lincoln be on?
Guernica probably isn't too far off at £3k/week or something at the minute. Akinde was on slightly more I believe and I'd suggest Freck, Bostwick, Eardley, Shackell and perhaps one or two others were in and around it as well so he's only a higher earner by very recent standards through players leaving, although most of those high wages were down to promotion clauses. We run fairly heavily incentivised deals, which cost us around £600k last summer and part of the reason we took a calculated gamble to cost cut in January ahead of this season, which turned out very well.

Any Luton or Lincoln fans able to give some opinions on Alan Sheehan?

Someone on Exeweb who’s gotten stuff right in the past has said we’re in for him. Is he a left back, or can he play CB?
