Whereas there isn’t any clear side that will escape this division either at the top or bottom we’ve some very likely candidates on who’ll be here next season and of course who will statistically be the first team to be here next year.

Maybe a midtable side, though i’d imagine it might well be our friends from across the M1 who are 17 points clear with 30 to play for - though of course it’s the worst conference ever.

Likewise, supposedly premier league bound carlisle are 15 adrift of league 1 with 10/11 games to play for.

Always one of these each year so…

I think that if your points total begins with the number four (Crawley on 49, down to Donny Rovers on 40) you are safe for another year and winning promotion or making the play-offs is probably beyond you unless you go virtually unbeaten for the rest of the season...enjoy your fight to win the mid-table battle, while the rest of us have slightly more pressing concerns!

A loss for premiership based carlisle and a win for derbyshire county council backed chesterfield increases their chances of being first to it…

whilst they both can confirm their place in L2 soon surely they can't win the L2 mid table cup in a season when they are not actually in L2?

It’s basically both, a midtable cup but also who can actually achieve it first.

Clearly it’ll be one of those 2 though

7 points from our remaining 9 games will see us clinch it officially.

Could be as soon as this time next week over at our friends place, Boundary Park.

More than done our time. The clubs been geared for a return for the last couple of years tbf and it’s only the 2 up / 2 down that’s prevented it from happening earlier. But we’re coming back up in the best place we’ve possibly ever been in off the field, so the timing couldn’t really be better.

Usually happens, you, like us and most clubs should’ve never gone down in the first place but did so under abject mismanagement/exploitation of an asset by a chairman which the EFL approved.

The problem being is the fans that follow the likes of chesterfield or mansfield (rivals or not) are worth their weight in gold and not appreciated as they should be

Looking forward to seeing which team currently in L2 confirms their place first. Tranmere and Swindon look likely candidates. 11 points from the POs, 14 clear of the drop zone. Obviously need to wait a few more weeks for that, but we're getting close to that time again.

Good to see pantomime villain club Chesterfield coming back up, the worry is who comes up with them. I hoped for Oldham but you're quite likely to see Non league shit houses Bromley or perennial yo yo club Barnet.

The financial statements for the year ending June 30, 2023, have been published ahead of next Wednesday’s AGM.
The numbers show that the Spireites made a loss of £2,146,218. The previous year they made a loss of £2,370,671.

be nice if oldham made it back up, i guess a few of the sides in the playoffs would still be relatively unknown to many in the league.

Notts County very much looking good candidates for the first guaranteed league 2 side next season (out of those already here), who'd have thought?

They need to do away with that competition winner manager they have and go back to hiring managers from the Swedish 2nd tier.

Most likely candidate is Notts County FC 2 months ago.

The owners need to listen to the experts from North Wales and North Notts. That's obvious

I hope so, we're definitely not going up.. Just hope we finish the season with a few good results as we've reverted back to the angry, impatient, moaning bastard fans we are nine years in every ten and I preferred it when we had a togetherness.
It's odd really, hardly any fans thought we'd go straight up, most would have taken mid table in July but having been competitive until the end of October we've lifted our sights and lower mid table is now abject disaster.

I'd take Maynard over Burchnall all day long. Never warmed to the pobbly eyed mid management creep.

Some of those grounds will blow their mind if you get one of the traditional non leaguers coming up.

Some of those true non-league grounds are great. Would much prefer someone new than Oldham, they need another year or two of readjustment.

Solihull is the only one in the promotion race that is a genuinely crap ground though, all the others are either ex-EFL or decent non-league stadiums which are certainly no worse than several already here. Gateshead sticks out as well for the running track, but compared to some of the other grounds with athletics use in the league over the years (Withdean, Don Valley) it's actually alright. At least they put you in a part of the ground you can actually see the game from! Withdean you might as well have not bothered going.

Bromleys ground is also rubbish. It has its charms sure, but it's not a good ground (although I do take your point that there are grounds equally as bad already in this league). I quite like Altys ground but it's a bit Barrowesque.

The Gateshead ground is ridiculous. You are so far away from the pitch it's a joke.

As for the ex EFL grounds I really dislike the Hive (I think they are moving soon aren't they?) and the Recreation Ground, Aldershot was always bad but now has had years of zero investment so it's absolutely chronic. Away fans have to put up with portaloos (and not enough)

Ok the pillars are annoying but a good sized terraced curved away end with roofing above half of it and gone fans next door, yes please. Love Aldershot away.

Never done Gateshead but looks an awful experience.

Richard Cranium it’s not letting me quote reply you for some reason.

I know you’re from Mansfield and all that but come on now, surely not that thick? Check the dates on those accounts… the current seasons accounts won’t be published until next years AGM.

Since then, we’ve had two local brothers gradually increasing their investment to a point where we had the news recently that they’re looking to actually take over majority ownership of the club and invest upwards of £2m into infrastructure & playing squad etc (TBC at our AGM on Wednesday this week). Link attached:
But in general when I’m talking about the best position we’ve been in off the pitch in years, I’m talking about the actual people that we have in those positions now. Local people with the clubs best interests at heart… anyone who knows anything about our plight down the divisions a few years ago, knows those at the top had anything but our ‘best interests’ at heart.

Oldham have some individuals in their squad that are match winners, but their general play is absolutely woeful. They genuinely just sit in and hoof it up towards Norwood / Garner / Dallas / Fondop etc and hope they produce some magic. I’d actually say in terms of team performance levels, they’re the worst in the play offs currently & I’d be very surprised if they managed to get promoted.

For me, I’ve been thinking it’s going to be Bromley all season, but recently I’ve started to get a sneaky feeling that Solihull might do it. They’re a very resilient side and have more than enough shithouse’ness about them to sneak up through the play offs. Losing Josh Kelly in Jan was a big loss for them though in my eyes, I think if they had him I’d be very confident of them doing it. Barnet are too weak defensively for me & Aldershot / Gateshead are too up & down form wise to confidently back them. In all honesty though, it could be any of them, it’s wide open really.

Of the clubs in the National League top seven I've been to Barnet (both grounds), Bromley (please no?), Aldershot and Gateshead. I love Newcastle but I really don't like Gateshead's ground.

Happy to tick off Chesterfield if we're still in this league next season. Ditto Altrincham or Halifax if they sneak through. Solihull too.
