I'd actually love to see Aldershot do it. It would be incredible seeing a side get promoted who concede more than they score. Plus the denizens here might get to see the wonderful non-league-ness of karlready. It's going to be really open though even Halifax are showing some form at the right time, and I think they take the prize for nutter forum fans.

Looks almost certain we will be taking part in the L2 tour 24/25 after a hideous mess of a January transfer window (again!) and relying on 2 midfielders so good it was inevitable they'd be recalled (one is now starting in the Premier League!) and having no back up plan.

Pleased to see Mansfield almost certainly swapping places with us after the class they shown us in the POF.

Should be interesting...

Aye, i’ll always be forever proud of fans that’s day, backed them throughout (though i don’t remember much of the 2nd half) and clapped clarke and vale when they won.

Just out of interest, i have rather a dislike of flitfroft (as those on stagsnet will know ha) what’s your thoughts?

It’s entirely on him that we are in the mess we are in (on the field). He has made a total mess of recruitment for two out of the last three transfer windows and not addressed our striker issue since promotion… and has built us to be 3-5-2 but failed to source wing backs!

Talks the talk, all the corporate speech but the fans have turned on him and he’s getting the main blame… unfortunately Carol doesn’t agree with the fans though.

His position is untenable but if he does survive he has a massive summer to redeem himself as we will expect a promotion challenge. It’s probably the most avoidable relegation when you consider the warning signs and the fact budget etc isn’t a big issue and has good owners above him.

He’s done some good, the youth system is good and we’ve some real quality coming through and made big money this year on sales, getting us the quality of loan in Arblaster and Devine (Arblaster easily the best player I’ve seen in a Vale shirt in two decades) but he’s royally screwed up overall and is living off 2021/22.

You only beat us in the League Cup at Mansfield because of your two PL loan players.

Big Uche in fairness and Ojo were outstanding that night too but Uche is injured and Ojo appears to have downed tools.

Arblaster though was sheer quality, starting in the Prem now… one small joy watching him in a Vale top in a largely dour season.

Flitcroft is unbearable and it’s really surprising to see him still holding a good position at a club like Vale.

Talks the talk doesn't he... he was called for the managers job and managed to tell Carol we need a director of football and he would do that instead!

The club is light years ahead of where it was in fairness in terms of facilities for the players, youth structure etc (part of the problem is investment has gone into that area of the club for the long term benefit more than the first team), but fans want winning football rather than cryogenic chambers or whatnot and money hes spent on players has been on rubbish like Ryan Loft!

As I say though the fans are putting the blame fully on his door, signing Darren Moore to appease the fans hasn't worked as even he cant polish the side we've been left with.

You all get the joys of the Bycars like you had that night now as the away end is now that side permanently, theres a massive screen between the home fans though, its actually quite weird as often as a home fan now you dont see a single away fan around before the game anymore as they dont need to come around the front of the stadium now.

Imagine there wont be much love lost when that fixture comes around though from either fan base I guess.

Of the clubs in the National League top seven I've been to Barnet (both grounds), Bromley (please no?), Aldershot and Gateshead. I love Newcastle but I really don't like Gateshead's ground.

Happy to tick off Chesterfield if we're still in this league next season. Ditto Altrincham or Halifax if they sneak through. Solihull too.

Gateshead as a trip was ace, but the ground is a truly shocking experience, i can’t for the life of me see what they gain from playing there in the slightest.

Never crossed parts with aldershot (i don’t think) or halifax while in the conference but had a fair few games with altrincham - lost to them home and away, they had that damien reeves uptop who was a class player for part time.

Chesterfield look almost certain to book their place over carlisle for next season.

Swindon or doncaster look likely to seal their place in 24/25 earliest as it stands.
