Cracking home turn out at Notts.

No doubt someone can confirm but I imagine that's the highest number of home fans for a league game there for a very long time.

I'm too lazy to confirm anything but a tremendous effort from the club. Superb attendance even taking into account a large number of free tickets and cheap tickets for everyone else who isn't a ST holder.

Past regimes have historically failed miserably on community days such as this. The current owner really advertised it and got the word out there and the community responded in kind.

As mentioned , it's a huge shame as predicted that the result and more so the performance won't see too many floaters back

I think it was the most home fans for a league game at ML since the last game of the 2001/02 season against Huddersfield, but even them i'm not sure because there doesn't seem to be any record of the number of away fans.

We've tried these promotion days before with nowhere near as much success - this one was brilliantly advertised by the club and seemed to be really targeted well. I'm not sure that the match matters that much with it either, it wasn't the greatest game ever but was also a long way from being the worst and everyone enjoys a 96th minute equaliser. I saw loads of youngsters really enjoying themselves even when we were losing and it had gone a bit flat. Even if it only persuades a few hundred to attend a bit more regularly then it's been worth it and definitely proves that we've got a bigger fanbase there if we can either get better at football or better at selling ourselves to the public.

A very impressive reaction by the Nottingham public and probably well timed with there being no PL games on TV and with County being top of the league. What were the details of the promotion? I imagine your board will have more of these promotions as you have the ground capacity to get people in and they do afterall spend money on food, merchandise etc. Looks like you will have an impressive average home attendance this year with all the local derbies and their big away support. Our last away game is at yours too. Could also be a sizable following if our season goes to plan. Just hoping there is nothing riding on it. I still have some horrible memories from 1992.

At least a welcoming committee representing forest had a nasty surprise....didn’t deaden the relegation woes though....
Ha ha I remember that. Was lively all day. The same with Aston Villa fans after we lost the FA cup semi to Everton. The rule of thumb is don't pick a fight with a teams fans who've just lost an important match.:box:

Tickets were a tenner and then we gave away 3,000 free ones as well. In the past though we've just given loads to schools and seen what happened - this time they did the free ones really widely (were offered to basically every school in the city and available to students at both unis, probably elsewhere too) but people had to apply for them, which I suspect is much better because then they're actually much more likely to actually turn up and we've now got their details for the future.

Yeah but it was a Chesterfield fan that brought up County's home attendance to be fair, they are just responding to it.

Our relegation season IIRC.

I think your front 3 that day were Davies, Lester and Morgan.

One of only a couple I missed that season. Suspect it was early season and coincided with a game of cricket.

average away following so far, includes three estimates
Morecambe at Stevenage 75
Stevenage at Swindon 150

Lincoln's average inflated by the 4000 odd at Notts Co.

A more realistic average on willy waving is working out how many a side who take on a Saturday afternoon 150 miles from home. These are the numbers which I feel are representative using a fan per mile calculation, However teams that sell out local derbies are disadvantaged by this calculation.

Not sure how that table works? Our away Saturday games within 150 miles have been Wycombe (1k+), Stevenage (1k+), Notts County (4k+) and Grimsby (2k).

How does that average at 882? Might be a simple explanation, but I can't see it in the post.

Over 150 miles, not within 150 miles maybe?

Maybe, but even then, our only Saturday game outside of that was Exeter at 350 odd.

It's says to 150 miles, meaning how many you would take to a game exactly 150 miles away.

I have tried to balance out number of away fans on how far they have to travel. Common sense suggests more fans travel if the distance travelled is not far. So I have tried to come up with an estimated figure based on fans travelling 150 miles on a Saturday and 100 miles on a Tuesday.
For example Lincoln, their average works out at 882. Stevenage actual away gate was 1171 travelling 120 miles, so if 150 miles is travelled the expected fans in attendance would be 937. (1171 x 120/150)
Wycombe 1529 - first game back in league for yonks - exceptional high turnout
Notts County 1104 - local derby with no restriction on ticket sales
Stevenage 937 - a fairly representative figure
Grimsby 626 - local derby, restriction on ticket sales
Exeter 548 - restriction on ticket sales
Forest Green 546 - shit journey to stand in rain on a Tuesday night.

So for these six games I see Stevenage representative which isn't too far away from the average of 882.
