How do you know - were away followings recorded in those days. I maintain it was at least 650...

Just from recollection. That season only the likes of Mansfield, Peterborough, Wrexham, Lincoln, Stockport and MK Dons brought over 500 from memory.

Could be wrong. Most probably are.

mansfield only brought 569 to Valley Parade in 2008, but we were bottom of the table and heading for the conference.

Loudest fans that season, though. I actually thought the following was nearer 750!

I beg to differ - there’s far worse away days. It’s because this league is full of tinpot outfits, y’know.

Oh, absolutely. It’s nowhere near the worst in the division.

Still pretty underwhelming though when you’ve been 9 times.

Tend to agree but we’re absolutely dogshit, have won away just 3 times this season, it’s 230 miles away on a Tuesday night with two localish away games coming up. Oh, and the whole fanbase appear to want Bowyer out. Fans have had enough.

380 Cobblers at Orient. Decentish I think, 2 big away followings previously and the cup game on Friday night.

Over 1,300 sold for Mansfield. Jheeez, this wouldn't have even reached general sale If were half-decent.

I think more and more lower league football fans are losing interest, not just your lot. Blanket coverage of Premier League on TV, where some great skills are shown compared to the awful stuff we have to put up with. Plus the whole match day experience isn't what it was, more expensive and treated like shit at most away grounds.

Pretty good from Mansfield that given the distance and how pants they are at the minute.

Nutters the lot of them, we never get anything at Plymouth anyway, only way I would make that trip is if somebody paid me handsomely.

Any chance of a league table of away support please?

Asking for a friend!

Includes a fair number of estimates but will give you an idea if you can do any willy waving.

A more realistic willy waving table is a calculation of a median away following at a distance of 150 miles on a Saturday afternoon. As everyone knows distance travelled has an affect on numbers. As you can see no surprises as all the tin pot teams are in the bottom seven.

We’ll be nearer 1,200 in two weeks, then.

Our average is decent given we've been midtable for the majority, although it is a Northern league and our most popular away matches have already been and gone (Crewe and Macc).

On the flipside, we sold out at Crewe, Macc and Salford and although we wouldn't have taken many more to the first two even if we had a bigger allocation, I'm convinced we could've sold 2000 for Salford, which would've had a positive impact on the average.

Unless we're somehow still in play off contention after the next few weeks, we'll only take 500+ to Oldham and Walsall between now and the end of the season, so expect our average to end up being lower than it is at present.

I'd like to see the numbers excluding all trips to Salford - it a statistical outlier that distorts the mean.

Impressive effort from Orient. London clubs are often poor travellers out of London unless it's an easy trip on the train - London is spoilt with public transport compared to we have to put with - any connection including Northern rail especially...

Good that at 244 we're at around 10% of our home average, which itself is about 500 up from when we were in the Conference. Still got Newport and Swindon away to come which should push it up a bit above that.

To be fair, your figure last season was grotesquely inflated by Notts County (10 minutes down the road) and Franchise (promotion decider) being able to give a whole stand over.

I was literally waiting for this, didn’t expect it from you though aha.

It’s a validish point, but to be fair if you actually looked at our away support last season it was good even without those two you mentioned (which still absolutely count either way) and our away support is decent anyway, even this season performance all considered is fine.

Maybe we should do a table where we take out irregular support/local derbies?

I’ve just thought too, maybe we can do another table where we actually add phantom fans to the away attendance when the allocation isn’t big enough? Lincoln for example, never gave Mansfield anywhere near enough, nor did Notts County last season for that matter. I estimate you could have easily added another 3,000 to those two games combined. Great statistics for windmilling.

The Ollie effect has pushed us a bit higher than it was, since he arrived we have taken over 1200 to both our away games. Scunny and Bradford to come, but also midweek at Plymouth and Colchester.

Oldham have made our clash all-ticket. Over 1,200 already sold.

Mansfield have given us the last 500 tickets, taking the allocation to circa 1,750.
