2863 Wrexham at Notts.
Fantastic support in a crowd of over 16,000.

Same here, though as we've only ever played a handful of seasons in the 2nd tier I think it would be a shame if we didn't hit those heights under our current ownership model.Amazingly that isn't as silly a comment as it first looks and I'm not too far off agreeing with you. But I was there when Notts played Wrexham in front of under 5,000 so I'd take League One regular within the next 5 seasons.
We (Crewe) had a pretty lengthy spell of 8 seasons out of 9 in the second tier from the late 90's up to 2006.As only a few other clubs at this level can attest it's well worth doing. Have some great memories of beating some tier 2 big boys at Meadow Lane in 90s
They can never take those memories away, even when #stained
It quickly becomes the norm. I remember going to places like West Brom in the top division and expecting us to win under Howard Wilkinson. We actually beat the league champions Villa away first game and they won the European cup that year.We (Crewe) had a pretty lengthy spell of 8 seasons out of 9 in the second tier from the late 90's up to 2006.
You kind of take it for granted after a while, regularly playing in front of 20,000 or so away from home and turning over former big guns on your own turf.
This is what happens with the success we've had, last season was unbelievable and wouldn't happen 9 times out of 10 with the same squad and division. Add in never finishing lower than 5th in the NL, there's going to be some absolute nonsense thrown about the next time we have even a mid table season. We've just come out the NL and already fans are moaning about certain players not being great against Wrexham who have a way bigger budget than us.... and we're sat in the top three.

They weren't great. The average looked higher than the reality with big away followings. The year we got relegated we had 6,500 ish for our second last game, a night match against Southampton.Yes I kinda vaguely remember you beating Villa in that first game.
Your crowds were very poor at that time though, probably largely because Brian Clough was still weaving his magic so close by.
As for West Brom we actually stuffed them 5-1 at The Hawthorns on during our spell in the second tier.
Some fans perceptions are obviously skewed ,but blowing smoke up each others arses only makes some of us laugh
Just me, apparently. Only got 15 professional players to choose from. No Kemp, MK 6/4 the win.
None of those clubs or Gillingham are the slightest bit tinpot. When we got into the 2nd tier at the turn of the century, we joined Grimsby, Stockport and Crewe, with Rotherham and Walsall joining in the year after. Having a whole bunch of not-dissimilar clubs in the league helped us feel less tinpot at the time!

I can remember sharing it with Bury and Southend for a while too, in fact Grimsby and Southend achieved back to back promotions together in 89/90 and 90/91 going from 4th to 2nd tier and we were then both relegated together back to the 3rd tier in 96/97.When we got into the 2nd tier at the turn of the century, we joined Grimsby, Stockport and Crewe, with Rotherham and Walsall joining in the year after. No I'd agree, but up against sides who pull in double our attendances on a bad day did make us feel small in comparison. It's all relative I suppose, but I'd certainly feel like a tiddler in a sea of sharks going into the Championship these days as we are.None of those clubs or Gillingham are the slightest bit tinpot.
