Just seen a video of the Gills fans at FT tonight. Looks a good turnout for a Friday night but the reason I post is them singing that watching …. putting on a show song.

Is there anyone in this league that doesn’t sing it now? Got to be the worst song I’ve ever heard sung at our place

Agreed.

Almost a thousand Gills fans up there tonight (953). A credit to the club and well done to them.

I first heard it last season away at Crawley on a Tuesday and thought it was crap when there was about 400 Town fans or something but then we went away to Donny a few weeks later and it sounded decent when there 2500 of us but then I started realising everyone sang it. The match that killed it for me was the NL playoff final, was the only thing both Notts and Chesterfield fans were singing for the whole match.

Phenomenal turn out on a Friday night. They deserved to see a decent performance and a win
Remarkable turnout, so much so, I have to ask why? Our midweek London area turnouts are sometimes similar, but that’s because we have loads of exiles down there. Is there some suburb of Nottm that’s a Medway colony?

Several reasons I can think of - yes an evening game but a Friday is better than a Tuesday, and Nottingham isn't bad for the young'uns who want a night out straight after the game. It's also a ground we haven't played at for a fair few years (2014 I think) and in the grand scheme of things it's certainly closer than a lot of other League Two away games, with Nottingham as a city reasonably easy to get to either by rail or road.

The main reason of course is that we possibly have the best pound-for-pound support in the league. Nearly always take more to every other club than they bring to us at this level which is probably the fairest way of judging it. Massive.

Not that I’m aware of. The only place we have a good exiled population of fans is Plymouth where a lot of ex-dockyard workers ended up when Chatham Dockyard closed in the 80’s.

I think as jothegill says, we do have a very decent away following for our overall size. We’ve taken good numbers to a lot of far flung northern outposts and well over 1k to most of the closer venues.

I actually don’t get that from Stockport at all? How can they not have the 1100 odd available wanting to go to that I’ll never understand.

Do they just not travel well east? Been 900 odd last two times at the Mill.

I’m shocked as well I presumed they’d sold it out.
That number given their position is absolutely dreadful and that’s not sour grapes before any of their fans pipe up.
