Yeah, having also checked was just after we'd come back up the first time. Peak Omar Bogle. Completely forgot Alan Smith played for so long for Notts too. Quite interesting reading the comments in this thread around that time (end of page 64/start of 65). Lots of talk of Notts' home numbers and Grimsby's away numbers. Just with fans of a few clubs that haven't been here for a while. Who remembers Luton and Wycombe?

It was likely only said tongue in cheek as Mansfield previously brought more to Meadow Lane one year for the much advertised and the original Big Day Out than they got at Field Mill for their very next home game.

Hard to believe but true.

No surprise at all, the evening trains out of Notts back to Mansfield are always packed after there big day/nights out on Saturdays

Without a doubt it’s impressive, but I don’t feel it’s a massive shock. Notts county historically have a decent sized fanbase, I’m talking about the 90s as I get every club had a few 20k attendances back in the 50s etc. I think you was at 7/8k for a couple of seasons in league two around 17/18 - 18/19, so was relegated averaging that?. Crowds are up throughout the leagues since then. Taking nothing away, another promotion you could get 13/14k in league one, i suppose it’s maintaining it for clubs at our level if we rise then eventually fall again. Donny averaged 11/12k in our first 2 seasons in the championship 15 years ago and the away end wasn’t always full inflating that, but we soon dropped back to 6/7k again when relegated. Be interesting to see if your crowds keep rising over next couple of years.

Our former chairman splashed a little cash he couldn't actually afford was great at marketing a promotion (something Notts and many football clubs are historically awful at) engaged with the local community and made it fun to go to games. That plus plenty of offers got us up to a healthy 7/8K in League 2 but this is different.

Agreed We've traditionally had a decent home fanbase and poor away. We've always averaged more than many L2 fellow dwellers but in the 90s we were averaging about 8000 in 2nd tier and about 5500 in the 3rd tier and that natural included much bigger away support visiting most weeks.

Now down in the 4th tier we are averaging as much as we did when we had our one top tier season in the early 90s. Read that again. That's frankly unbelievable.

Attendances are clearly up almost across the board like you say which is fantastic to see and we must be near the top for the curve and one of the ones leading the way. That's down to the owners and benefiting from a big population /city.

Donny knows as well as anyone what a good owner, some cash (and a nice new stadium) can do in transforming a club better than most.

Thank you PL for chasing the dollar and basically becoming more of a business and brand than a sport and sending proper football fans to lower league clubs up and down the league.

Agree will be interesting to see where the attendances fall back to when we have some regression, if it's anything above 7/8K then I'm happy. I clearly remember the days when a. 6-7K crowd was a big crowd now that would be very disappointing.

If we keep progressing we could indeed be talking 12/13K average in League One For little old Notts that would be insane.

I have to go back a long way to remember the club being in better health. Just gotta hope the young Danish nerds don't get bored playing real life Championship/Football Manager.

Pretty sure Notts were getting 11-12k in the early 70s. Many clubs have returned to average crowds last experienced in the early 60s. Mansfield, Donny, Rotherham and Chesterfield have all gone from 4k being a good crowd to averaging double or nearly double that. The vandalism that was the all seater conversion of Blundell Parm prevents us from experiencing that with better performance on the pitch.

If we had more capacity in the home ends we would be even higher.

we have no room for floaters anymore, plus plenty who decide on the week only to find out they cannot buy two or more seats together so do not bother, hence why we are hoping to have at least some of the bish open some point in the new year help.

Away end will be more populated this season, but we are likely to get more sides that don’t sell it out yet sell too many for us to share the stand, annoying!

Yes. We’ve about 150 tickets left for today. Half of those are restricted view. Donny could have sold double even with it live on Sky. So we could have had 9k+ tickets sold if we had the capacity and probably pushing 10k with a 3 pm ko.

Absolutely agree there mate. I think attendance has been given as 7,693 with 1,169 away. Like you said I’m sure over 8k was tickets sold?.

Capacity is 8.4k - ignore wiki. We’ve never had more than that since going all seater without installing extra seats in the corner. Tickets sold today will have been about 8.2k

If roughly 500 season ticket holders miss a Saturday derby, makes you wonder how many will miss a cold winter Tuesday night when there team is doing bad ( not referencing your fans I mean generally ) . It’s probably why some attendances across the leagues can seem so off at times. For attendance threads such as these if nothing else it would be great if clubs had to abide by a universal ‘tickets sold’ or go off of turnstile clicks or however it’s done. I think there are flaws to both methods, sometimes turnstiles clicks can lead to mis counts.

1,000+ are no shows for most Tuesday games. Some exiles will not have travelled for the early ko with also live on Sky. Exiles will tend to be better off - left GY Clee for higher paid jobs - buy a ST because you can afford it and not worry about missing a third of the games. The seat release doesn’t seem to have taken off even with incentives now offered.

Doncaster were asked if they could sell the corner ( an additional 600 tickets). They responded that they thought they would shift another 150-200. On that basis the corner was kept for home fans.

While granted our away support numbers wise is hardly anything spectacular in the sense that we don’t take 2k plus places really, I do believe we would have sold an additional 600 for this given the option and enough time. I’m not sure whether it even made general sale for the 1100/1200.

I think you would have as well. But strange that it was offered. We’ve only offered it to one club since we were promoted - Wednesday in the League Cup this season,
after STH take up of their seats was slow.

We are on a points system for away games, think our club underestimated how many would have gone if we had the extra, I’m sure the 600 would have sold
