And will always be shite at BP in it's current format - sold a lot for boxing day though , so more people annoyed they can't see the pitch
There was a definite step change downwards in attendances after the opening day game of the 82/83 season - Town v Leeds - are you old enough to remember the Battle of Cleethorpes?

Very surprised by that. Pretty damn good for us. Not a new ground and a bloody long way just before Christmas (5 hour round trip / 270 miles). Would have thought more like 250-300…

Shame they got well rewarded with a shite performance.

Our form looks to have knocked a good few hundred off the following to Bradford boxing day. That and the fact we have 3 away games in 10 days, with Grimsby and Donny to follow.

Hard to tell how sales are going from ticketmaster. Lots of greyed out seats but they seem to be opening up blocks as they sell out. So greyed seats in full blocks, not necessarily sold. I'd guess over 1100 so far. Might be wrong though.

Started going around 85 as a 5 year old mate so a little bit before my time , always stood in that Harrington street corner up until it was taken away , it was either rammed or no one in it which were both great tbh some of those big one's were incredible atmospheres when we were on the up but like you say historically the gates were downwards looking at the figures from that season you talk about .
The last 1 of decent gate must have been the villa game when Livvo got sent-off in the 90's at some point 15 or 16 thousand ,assuming that must have been slightly before all seater ?

That looks about right to me 900 in the side and 200 behind the goal. Probably would have took around 2000 but 1 win in 7 and people being fed up watching boring crap football have stopped people going.

Looking at TicketMaster, you’ve definitely shifted 850-900 in the Midland Road End.

As for the Bradford End (behind the goal), I’m not sure if you’ve sold just one block (circa 200 seats) or whether those 20 seats you’ve sold in the central block is all that you’ve shifted for that end. Either way, you’ve sold somewhere in the region of 1,000-1,150.

Said it before, but it’s an incredibly poor following given your circumstance - despite your form.

Behind the goal we've sold, as you look from the pitch, left to right of the top tier. So one block full so far. May shift a few between now and then. Be 1300 to 1500 by looks of it. Not great at all. We're a fickle bunch, win yesterday and Bromley, we'd be over 2k.

4,382 was announced over the tannoy thing at the ground and is confirmed on club website. Not sure where BBC figure comes from.
Thanx Roger, I've amended my monthly copy but in reality I always adopt the SkySport overall attendance numbers when reposting them at end of month on site.

The away attendance numbers are always suspect 'cause a lot of them are guesstimates either by the club or some fans. But, whatever, they still offer a realistic number of away fans in league order.

How are you managing that away end now? i remember our chairman saying we had to either buy the whole tier (or both) or not at all. Cba looking but we must’ve had close to 2,500 last season so had both.

Isn’t easier just to put away fans in that first who’ll take a decent number?

It was like Beirut round Gy and Clee for the whole weekend of the Leeds game. I'm sure many people were put off going to football for a long time after that. We never got 10k home fans for league game again until 1990. Looking back it is scarcely believable that the game was allowed to happen at 3pm on bank holiday weekend and being Leeds' first game after relegation. I don't think it was even all ticket. Leeds fans took over Cleethorpes on the Friday night and then the Nunny and West Marsh crews tooled up and started to fight back, pubs were changing hands like Tobruk in WW2. The day of the game was absolute carnage as the police had lost all control. My car was pelted with various objects at Bradley driving in as my Town scarf was spotted. We got out the Pontoon after thanks to some brave lads who fought their way out onto Grimsby Road.

Generally, if the club can’t be assured that sufficient numbers will be sold behind the goal, then pre-payment is required.

Typically, two blocks in the MR stand is sufficient (1,200).

The stand behind the goal only holds 1,550 now anyway. It’s not as if the capacity is significantly higher than the MR end. In addition, it’s a logistical/policing issue. The club will want to minimise putting seats in the lower tier on sale before anywhere else. Hence why we sell the MR blocks and the upper tier of the Bradford End first. These two areas equate to 2,000 ish. More than enough for most.

Fair enough, assumed they’d obviously be a reason/rationale for it

Taking 1300 to Bradford isn't poor considering 1 Bradford have not brought more than 1200 to vale since 2004 where I have the figures from. 2 it's double what we normally take there and 3 people are fed up of watching crap boring football. May well be 2nd in the table but it's a 17th place 2nd in the table based on form. Like I posted on the boxing day thread as soon as Bradford scored they have won. Also by the looks of it Bradford haven't learnt there lesson from the Carlisle play off game where they spent all week saying your support is shit, can't sell your tickets crap and then lost to them. When will your fans realise attendances don't win football matches players or crap referee decisions do.

I always remember it being 2 blocks in the side stand (Midland Road). It's showing a 3rd block greyed out for some reason but that would be close to the half way lane, won't there be season ticket holders in there? Highly doubt we've sold tickets that far along.
