League 2 beginners guide

Anyone got one?

I'll admit I have no clue whatsoever about the goings on down there - or down here I suppose I need to start saying. The little information on the teams I do know about is years out of date in some cases.

It's probably been a case of me being a little stuck up in never even contemplating life down here but I never even bothered to check the league table out.
So what of the runners and riders then? Who are the big hitters? Who are the money bags? Can we expect the three play off losers to be up there again? (At this moment I don't even know who they are I've not quite come to terms with this yet)
Most importantly if we approach this like a proffessional club, not the penny pinching traditional latics way, do we have a chance of success?
I can't be the only latics fan who still quite hasn't come to terms with relegation. Who has been nieve enough to turn a blind eye to league two over the years knowing it will never happen .
We come down not as a billy big bollocks team fully expecting to walk the league. Personally I fear for our league status next year but I don't want this thread to be about latics, I'm genuinely trying to get to grips with this league.

It’s like a box of chocolates.

Chesterfield get relegated with one of the highest budgets, Accrington go up with one of the smallest.

If you’ve got a good manager and a team pulling in the same direction then you’ve got a chance. Add a bit of quality and play offs or automatic are likely.

But be careful, as Chesterfield found out last year, it’s very easy to assume it will be easy, and then you end up dropping into the abyss.

Trust me we ain't walking into this eyes shut. We know we will struggle. The manager is staying and he is questionable at best
We wasn't unlucky. We should have survived at a canter but joke tactics and a can't be arsed attitude saw us down.
I take it very few teams buy success down here then?

Chesterfields was not over the £2m mark I don’t think.

Mansfield’s budget was £2.5m, and that was probably a top three budget, easily surpassed by Luton and maybe Coventry.

I'd say the key for promotion is to sign goalscorers (if that's not obvious).

Mansfield were seen as the high profile 'spenders' last season, but they only signed Angol and Spencer as forwards, who were never going to hit the 20+ goals they needed. Kane Hemmings was their top scorer with 15. Whereas, we had Hylton and Collins who scored 40+ goals between them, plus Berry and Lee following on behind.

League Two is a fun league. Anyone can beat anyone. Some nice away trips too. I honestly think Oldham fans will enjoy next season much more than struggling in L1 every year. I found L1 quite dull in the 5 seasons we’ve been there since 2011. League Two is a more open league where you can go from relegation strugglers one season to play-offs the next.

Even though we only finished mid table. 13/14 season in league two is still my favourite supporting Bury. It was such a topsy turvy season. We went from relegation certs, to play off hopefulls back to relegation candidates and then finally finished 12th with some big wins along the way.

Then we went up the following season.

We were getting by just fine with Evans in charge though, Rose would of hit 20. A bigger problem was lack of contribution from midfield.

Mate, there’s nothing to get to grips with really, it’s like being in League One. Bar the one or two big Championship clubs who find themselves stuck there each year, you could swap the teams round and it wouldn’t look ridiculous.

You could be right. I believe their chairman recently said that he was reducing the budget from £2.5 million to £1 million for next season, whichever league they were going to be in.

Saying that, according to the Chesterfield fans, their chairmen didn’t always tell it as it was.
