Is there any sort of season preview?

Good read that
Anybody who uses declination instead of decline destroys any semblance of credibility. Yet another hack who falls for the easy options.

We had 19 minutes of additional time yesterday, did anyone manage to have more?

Must have been an injury as that seems rather extreme even with the new rules .
There was a sending off and substitutions but nothing exceptional. Second half the ref added 10 mins when I thought four was a plenty. Actually having got a soaking and being 5-1 down you could have pulled the plug on 80 mins and I wouldn't have minded.

Sounds good in principle, never going to work in practice, especially lower down. Shithouse managers have been around forever. Think back to the late 60s and early 70s with Don Revie and others. How do you stop managers from endorsing their players using shithouse tactics?

Maybe a season or 2 of these new rules discourages this, but as soon as the timings start coming down, which they inevitably will as the weather gets worse and refs don't play to playing after 5pm/9:45 in November-February, then count on the timewasting coming back.

But was anyone really complaining about timewasting? It was an level playing field for every team. I've seen it happen to my team when losing and I despised it. I've seen my team do it when winning and I loved it. Anyone else who says any different is lying to themselves. Don't mind keeping players off for 30 seconds after any physio treated injury.

Just don't think you need to be adding extra time for literally every stoppage. Players need a break. I know they are lacking fitness at the moment and things will improve, but I worry with all this extra football that they are going to start dropping like flies. Don't think many are phyiscally capable of 70-80 minutes of in play football. Especially in the colder and darker months when the pitches are firm/sandpits. This doesn't improve the game, but it's early. Let's see how it goes on over the next few months.

The clock needs to stop every time the ball is not in play, but only play 30 mins per half.

I think this is one of those things that everyone thinks is fine because we're used to it, then when outsiders to the game come in they think it makes no sense. For me it's anti-competitive and isn't what I want to watch, obviously if my team can gain an advantage under the rules I want them to use it, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with the rule.

This would be my preference if it really doesn't slow down time wasting and we're getting 110 minute games that players can't cope with.

We did 109 minutes on Saturday and it wasn’t a particularly dirty game, it seemed to flow fairly well. Newport away this weekend could be interesting

The Women's World Cup match England v Nigeria is a good example why this edict will be quietly dropped: - Simply because it could and will create chaos in the TV schedules. The England match almost ran overtime into next game in competition.
The TV people won't stand it for long if their schedules get mucked about.

Wasn't that more because it went to penalties?

But yes they will probably soon kick-off and so will the big boys in the PL.

Pep and Man U players already have.

I mean least they have very big top quality squads which they can rotate.

I suspect the hope is players like keepers don't time waste eventually.

Think we saw in the World Cup less injury time as the tournament went on?

On Talksport it was said dissent and time wasting has always been a bookable offence but refs don't bother doing it.

As with all these updates to existing laws, they'll be implemented for a month or so and then things will start to go back to how they were beforehand.

So we're potentially pissing off the majority of those who care about the game to appease those with a casual interest?

And I'm the same as the OP on the last point. 60 minutes of play but the watch is stopped every time there is a break in play. Much better compromise.

Far better compromise is to borrow some rules from Rugby Union where any dissent results in offending team losing 10 yards in free kick (or penalty).
That rule would speed up game.

And let play continue when the physio comes on to treat a player.

They used to have that rule in football for a year or two - not sure if it was just trialled in the UK or was done worldwide. IFAB, in their infinite wisdom, decided that non-rugby playing countries wouldn't understand it and ditched it.
