The ironic cheers on Saturday when the ref actually gave us a foul was hilarious though. People might have thought we'd scored it was celebrated so much. He did miss some absolutely blatent fouls from both sides

We have some 'legends' at the CG that are still not aware you can't be offside from a goal kick and still have a moan about our strikers being in an 'offside' position.

Another one is that EVERY foul by an opponent should warrant a yellow card, however feeble the offence.

The vast majority of Chesterfield fans I’ve seen have said it was a penalty. The only game when it was seen a real time. After seeing the highlights, many agree it was the right decision.

Fair enough - only read the comments on here and from their manager "in the heat of the moment" after the game had ended.

Lol and let’s not forget the dozens and dozens of folk who want a free kick for an unintentional backpass!! Even when it’s clearly a accidental slice, deflection or richochet

I want stewards to take those people outside for 5/10mins as punishment and explain the rules again .

Then we have the chumps , the plebs who chant Off Off Off for a foul which is a yellow card at most! Get out of here fools

Bloody hell! Half the fun - in fact, most of the fun watching Swindon - comes from berating opposition players and officials for minor cock ups.

He then capped it off for an Cov injury by calling on the physio for a downed player , then after treatment didn’t order that player off the field of play. A stupid rule anyway admittedly but a rule nonetheless that you see enforced ‘week in, week out’ this guy, nope . No idea.

Not having a go at you in particular here, but a small part of the problem is that loads of fans don't actually know the rules, particularly when they get updated. He got that spot on - our guy was booked for the challenge that led to the Cov player getting treatment, which means that he doesn't have to go off the field of play. That one's been in force for a couple of years now.

I see it loads with players/managers/fans demanding red cards for last man tackles this season, even though they changed the rule in the summer to only be a yellow card if it's a genuine attempt to play the ball.

Fair enough but that is a rarity tbh. Obviously rules only brought into play in last few seasons are always going to cause problems. They hardly make a huge news item out of them so many including myself, I’m giessing the majority had no idea.

Similar to the rule when a defender shields the ball out for a goal kick and people go crazy wanting a free kick for obstruction. You have to literally search the FA rule book online to see why it’s never given. It looks a foul all day long.

If they don’t advertise the changes sufficiently then what do they expect?

The majority examples above are just fans being well (biased) fans. At Notts the opinion of the Kop en masse is laughable most games partly due to the IQ of some of the fans in there but probably more so because the view of the action from behind the goal is poor and doesn’t give a fair chance for your average fan. If your not side on, your view loses some credibility imo

The shepherding the ball out is one rule I would change. It's a really simple change too.

Make it so you are not deemed to be in control of the ball if you haven't touched it. If someone runs into your back it's not a foul but as soon as you deviate to sheild the ball; foul!.

I'm not sure they've got a Wikipedia page yet. They didn't have last year.

Ha!

Our manager Keith Curle has one, so there.

The reason for them not having one Im sure is because there is just limited internet access in Lincoln.

So....a trio of games tonight. We face Yeovil and I suspect it will be another dour draw which will be a further nail into our non-play off coffin this season.

I think the offsides are my favourite ones - especially as I sit behind the goal and therefore we're not even looking it at from remotely the correct angle, let alone in line!

The other ones that seem to wind everyone up is every time someone comes over to take a corner and the ball looks slightly out of the quadrant, even though the edge will be overhanging the white line. It's perfectly legal but 99% of the people around me jump up every single time screaming at the ref to come and make him put it back, does my head in.

In fact, even our bloody mascot stands by the corner flag waving his huge fluffy arms about and pointing to the ball. Idiots.
My favourite was quite a few years back at Lincoln where a guy not too far from me shouted offside from a goal kick every fucking time for what seemed like 5 or 6 years. He had no idea you couldn't be offside from a goal kick until I eventually told him.

That one is something to do with the ball moving, which makes it ok.

It's why when an attacker is wasting time in the corner it's a foul pretty much straight away because he doesn't keep the ball moving, or even touch it and just effectively blocks the player. If he was to keep touching the ball and therefore being 'in control' of it, he'd be fine.

Could actually be 3 draws tonight but feel Swindon and Mansfield will win. Obviously being biased draws would be fine

Under DF we barely drew a game. Now with Brown in charge we seem to be harder to beat but can't put the ball in the net at the other end. Last 3 games have been a stalemate and it wouldn't surprise me at all if its a 4th come 21:37 tonight.

I still occasionally see people shouting for offside from a throw in :eyes:

That really sounds like something specific to Colchester because I have never in my life heard of the placement of the ball for corners being a bone of contention among fans. Weird lot you must be.

Has happened at quite a few of our games this season, mainly because Alan Sheehan is basically taking free kicks rather than corners most of the time with how far out of the D the ball is sometimes!

It absolutely wasn't! I never saw him have a good game.

On the subject of refs, they should be FT in the FT leagues IMO and that's something I've been banging on about for years. PL to L2 should all be FT. You can't expect a guy who's up at 6am to go to work as, say, a teacher, travel an hour or two to the game and then officiate.

PL are FT refs and Championship are FT refs (IIRC, the Club's contribute 'x' amount towards a pool of money which pays their wages?).

Because of Kettle being our ref tonight there's a thread on our FB page about good refs we've had over the years. Jarnail Singh was the first name that came up. The comment about his last game in the football league is true as I was there - Huish Park League 1 v Oldham. When he blew the final whistle everyone on all four side gave him a standing ovation as he walked off. Never seen it before or since.
