Shambolic end to a shambolic season but finally the season is over! Second time in three seasons we’ve lost the last game 5-0 and all! Probably the most chuffed I’ve been after a 5-0 in that the darkness is over for the season and we have a chance now to turn things around whilst still in the EFL.

Poor result but we’ve learnt the last couple of games we have very few fringe players ready to step up which will give us a better idea what’s needed in the summer. Just want us to get on with the rebuilding job and as I said we can’t celebrate staying up from the league we have to do everything we can now to make sure this never happens again. Most Vale fans haven’t lived long enough to see us this shit and hopefully it will be the wake up call needed for the ownership. Sell up or back Aspin, I don’t overly care which but aside from personal tragedy not helping this has been the toughest months as a fan who loves this club. The last time we got close to this mess was 2008 and we turned the corner after that lesson, I hope the same can happen again.

Two fingers up to you Mr David Flitcroft.

Feel for the Mansfield fans as it’s not their fault at all but I am delighted in his failure.

Total wankmuffin he is.

Thanks for turning L2 into Serie A/B/C/D Cov fans. Hope you lot stay down after today.

And I take back what I said on the relegation thread.

Nice to sign off with a win, even better beforehand when Patrick van Aanholt sent the lardies down.

Not playing fantastically yet winning is a good habit we're developing against sides. Beats the playing well but still finding a way to lose earlier this season.

Fingers crossed we make the few additions we need to be at the right end of the table for once...

Will he be there at the start of next season?
The Radfords’ Twitter accounts could make interesting viewing. It’s a choke job of epic proportions from the Stags since Evans walked away, never imagined for one moment they wouldn’t finish top 7.

Was listening to BBC Radio Nottingham on the drive back home. Flitcroft did not come across very well at all in his interview, repeatedly contradicted himself often in the same answer.

Was definitely trying to pass off blame onto Evans in his interview, making some very cryptic remarks about what he had found when he arrived. Also said that he was going to build a top quality squad for Mansfield fans to be proud of and how great he is at squad building only to reference his time at Swindon as evidence of this, im sure they would have plenty to say on that!!

Then seemed to have a dig at a few players. Got asked point blank after saying that if there would be significant turn over of players and he said no straight away only to end his interview saying that he would "rebuild" the team!

Felt like he was just trying to tick all the manager buzz phrases without actually understanding what he was saying.

I know they’ve gone quiet on here but I notice another pitiful attendance at Field Mill, 4,734 for a game that could see them get into the playoffs. WTF?

Our win over Port Vale was a good performance and straightforward. We scored 4 nice goals and the one from Dunk was a bit of a scramble. Brad Halliday’s strike was a screamer.

We could have scored a few more as we missed some real sitters. Port Vale were dreadful and I was amazed the Vale fans clapped their team off at the end.

Nice to see Leon Legge get a cameo before his departure and Greg Taylor deservedly won player of the season.

Events pre-match probably meant they were too happy to give a toss and rightly so in my opinion.

To be honest a few were kids the rest bar Pope, Tonge, Hannant and Whitfield were fringe players so couldn’t knock them too much. We had the first post millienial play for us ever and sent all our loanees bar Whitfield back... added to an injury crisis with Montano, Howkins, Worrall out and Kay banned it was never going to be pretty even Aspin said that in his post match interview (bizzarely but he’s honest)

Had it been our full side or had anything riding over it we’d be splitting blood... as it is it wasn’t even our JPT level of squad so wouldn’t get excited by battering that XI, booing lads making their second or first apps for us would be a bit harsh... Tonge and Pugh yes but otherwise what good would it do for the likes of Angus who was on loan at Tamworth two weeks ago? These are ones hopefully for the future but clear from today and last week most are not ready just yet.

Plus as seen on Twitter many of the Vale fans got the result they wanted whilst in the pub in Cambridge city centre :)

True, the Stoke result definitely sweetened the defeat. But fuck me they were bad today.

Fairy muff. Did you expect that side before hand? Is it self harm to travel that distance if that side was likely to be picked and likely beaten?

No we didn’t to be honest as we were so bad last week and the thought was that Aspo would go full strength to try and finish on a high. Angus even played for the reserves mid week and he had stated 4-4-2 doesn’t work with our personnel so expected 4-5-1 but he has decided players were possible that won’t feature will not play today as it is pointless hence just the five subs and them being mainly kids like Benns. We have injuries too so doubly surprised the loan lads were sent back.

It’s actually the third time in recent years we’ve lost 5-0 in and end of season dead rubber so the fans who went should know better! But it’s a new ground as don’t think we’ve played there since the week after we last beat Stoke incidentally 16 years ago and a decent city so was always going to be a decentish following.

Since beating Lincoln as a club we’ve kind of just drifted into the games being an inconvenience almost as we want to start in earnest to get Aspo his own squad in and we’ve been really dreadful for three matches now! Not the best way to gee up for the summer but sounds like we are very close to a new signing and next season has been in prep for a couple of weeks now.

Today probably tells us who isn’t on the retained list though... Forrester, Barnett for a start. Whitfield pretty much said bye on Twitter although he’s been meh since New Year. Rumours linking us with Stockports hitman who’s scored a lot. Could be interesting the coming months as we undo Brown the Clowns mess.

Jason Oswell, wonder which Academy he was in again...

In all seriousness I know a mate of his and it seems he's already agreed a deal with Wrexham verbally.

Aspo? Should surely make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen, worrying sign#drift

What with Clowns mess? He’s basically chose to leave the loanees/wasters out etc as we doesn’t want them so doesn’t see the point in playing them, he’d rightfully I guess want to see if any of the untried players have anything to offer than waste a game playing someone who won’t be part of it next season.

Aspo performed a minor miracle keeping us up considering the state we were in and how much Brown had spunked on a 35 man squad. He will be judged this time next year when he’s had chance to get rid of much of the mess and bring his own players in, although the scale of the mess of the last two years could take years to fully sort:

All rumours at the moment but Aspo was at Stockport in midweek. May not have been him of course he was watching!

Got to hope Aspo can repeat the Vardy/Gregory trick I guess!

A Mansfield win wouldn't have changed anything in the end, but had they won and witnessed Yeovil in the second half today and particularly the final 5 minutes, they'd have been uproar.

Way said he'd go into this game and opposition managers needn't worry about Yeovil giving it a go. Well, he was lying. They had no intention of winning that game today, which played into our hands a little, even if we did concede an unbelievably sloppy goal and make hard work of getting a point. I'm not sure they played more than a handful of meaningful passes into our final third in the second half.

93rd minute, a ball into the channel reaches our 'keeper and the nearest Yeovil player was near the halfway line and just stood there happy for the 'keeper to have it.

Looked a lovely goal from Pett. Not seen a replay yet, but looked a lobbed, curling effort into the top corner and kinda got it under control, moved around the ball and struck it all in one motion.

We weren't great, though. But we have a knack of digging something out when not playing well. Missed a penalty as well (rebound also hit the underside of the bar and out) from a silly handball.

Did well to squeeze 10k+ into the ground, too.

The Radfords’ Twitter accounts could make interesting viewing. It’s a choke job of epic proportions from the Stags since Evans walked away, never imagined for one moment they wouldn’t finish top 7.

He hasn't been sacked yet and based on his radio interview it sounds like he is staying.

I cannot see how any fan for one second can defend him and blame Evans, the players or strikers squandering chances for this. Our tactics have been completely appalling and none of our wins have been convincing. 12 points from 12 games is completely unacceptable with this squad and he should be sacked immediately. The team since he has taken over has been disorganised, unbalanced and soft at the back. It's not a recipe for success and if we keep him knowing this we deserve to miss out for another season.

I know they’ve gone quiet on here but I notice another pitiful attendance at Field Mill, 4,734 for a game that could see them get into the playoffs. WTF?

Our form has been horrendous. If we were in great form there may been a better crowd, but really no supporter was expecting us to make it.

We've had some stupid red cards in the last two seasons, but I don't recall our fair play record being as bad as this ever (not that we're a dirty side).

91 yellow cards, 9 red cards. :bl:

I'm guessing only Yeovil beat us on this?

How many times has Hylton been sent off? And how many purely for a bad challenge? It reminds me of us under Craig Short, our disciplinary record was poor and it seemed like we found new ways to get yellow/red cards every others week. I didn’t mind it Cos at least commitement and togetherness was there for all to see but doesn’t bode well if manager doesn’t have control of his squad

Only an issue for Luton if it continued at L1 level.

He got a red card last season for throwing a litter picker off the pitch onto the side of the pitch, in the referees words I'm guessing "an aggresive manner".

But surprisingly, that was his first red card of the season and his first since the Notts County (H) match last season, 45 games ago. He's not had a straight red card in 5.5 years.

He did pick up 12 yellow cards though this season, having missed a chunk of it through injury.

Thanks Stringy, seems a few regular Stags posters have mysteriously gone MIA and very quiet overs recent weeks. I blame the handbrake for that.

I totally agree, 12 from 12 is basically relegation form. Which is pretty poor if he took over a struggling side with no confidence and limited talented but didn’t.

Sounds crazy to sack someone so soon and no doubt Costa Del Stag will say keep the faith, played great stuff and he needs time to get his own players in but we know this is all complete chuff!

Any half decent manager with that squad , would of at the bare minimum of got 15 points to safely secure playoffs, or if it had been Evans 20-30 points and 3rd place.

To get a point a game and not reach the play offs should be more than enough to get rid.

But the blame isn’t solely on DF, awful choice from JR and above all SE is to blame for this as without his backstabbing actions none of this would of happened and JR couldn’t make such an awful choice
