Nonce - a person convicted of a sexual offence , especially against a child

Origin: 1970s of unknown origin

:brill::ffs::gmc:

I’m far from too sensitive sweetheart but please try dragging those knuckles out of 1970/80s and join the vast majority of us in 2018. You’ll enjoy it , year of the stag after all

Rather aptly, I predict our resident Crewe mod will be along soon to delete all this.

I’m hoping we all know the rough definition of ‘fat’. A photo of Steve Evans is a prime illustration if anyone’s struggling.

Steve ‘Fatty Fat Fat’ Evans

No need to delete all, close any threads down just delete one offensive word will do the job. I’ve not seen anyone else use it on this forum since I first started posting#70s

I thought you were actually going to get into the origins of the word. Fairly sure everyone knew what nonce meant without your definition.

What if it turns out somebody on the forum is a nonce? Is it ok to call them it then?

I believe there is an official ‘list’ but not sure exactly who can access it. I know Conks knows all L2 major transfer fees and weekly wages of most players to the penny but I seriously doubt he can access the sex offenders list.

If someone is convicted then yes, obviously. You don’t have to look to far back in the world of football to find a prime example of where the use would be appropriate (discussed at length last season) . Let’s save that for another thread, and get back to L2 matters

I thought you said it was an offensive term? Surely if you think that then it's not okay to use it, even for a convicted paedophile?

Leave him alone SoC he’s clearly still upset County spent more than anybody else in the league and have ended up bottom so far because of it!!!

Anyway, I missed the 1970/80s unfortunately.

Convicted aka proved in a court of law. Big difference. Come on SoC surely you don’t condone it being used willy nilly and so aimlessly out of context on this Football forum?

Born 1990+ and still use this outdated word. Wow, it gets worse! I thought it could be a generational thing. I blame the parents

You never answered the question, have you moved further north?

Who sits bottom of the football league and isn’t a little upset? :dk: I’ll help you out someone who doesn’t care or isn’t a fan. That’s who. :sl:

I’m shocked, a little upset and above all stunned. Tbh I feel for the proper supporters this season, I’m yet to see a game which appears a blessing. I’m a part time supporter but proper fan at best this season.

Yeah, it's not a word I would personally use and I'm not saying it isn't offensive to some people. What I'm saying though, is that it shouldn't be used fullstop if its being deemed offensive, regardless of whether someone is convicted or not. It's like saying that bender or fag are offensive words if the person is not homosexual - no, they're just offensive in whatever context they're used.

It’s all about context isn’t it? If the word was being used on the subject of Barry Bennell, then whether it was viewed offensive or not at least it would be potentially appropriately used, in context and relevant.

Instead we’ve clearly got one daft lad who is throwing the term around aimlessly, calling players, managers and posters on this forum a ‘nonce’. There’s no context, it doesn’t fit, doesn’t make any sense.
I assumed wrongly he just didn’t know it’s origin/meaning.

Tbh it’s embarrassing more than anything, that he (not seen anyone else use it before) just throws it around like he’s using the word idiot. Repeated use doesn’t make it ok.

SoC if someone started calling posters on here fag or bender, I’d feel the same. So many less offensive, less specific insults you can be used. Ones not linked to sexual orientation, race etc.

The ‘onefootballforum’ is better than that’s surely?

If not and it’s not moderated, it’s basically a free for all, and absolutely anything offensive or insulting goes, that’s fine but can someone please let me know so I can prep my personal insults

At last, someone talking nonce sense.

Seriously though it’s just a word used jokingly as a general insult Viking, it’s not worth spending valuable time debating on mate, I’m sure you and everyone else have much bigger things to deal with.

Also I don’t live in the north, in fact I was not even born in Mansfield(Kings Mill is ‘just’ outside ;) ) or ever actually lived in Mansfield - did live quite close throughout my childhood though. Thanks for the interest in my life story.
