I'm really pleased for Grimsby and the supporters.

Artell has shown to be unreal at grinding out excellent away wins so far this season.

The next phase is for him to implement a front foot style, which will help what is quite poor form at Blundell Park.
Yep, need to start picking up points at home again. Recent home matches have all been against teams you'd fancy to finish above us (MKD, Donny and probably Walsall and maybe even Barrow too). Colchester and Accrington up next at BP sandwiched between games away at Newport and Morecambe is a more forgiving run than we've had lately. Be interesting to see how we play against these sides and how we do.

“quite poor”…!?

Someone did an analysis on the Fishy - it appears that we’ve been feckin shite at home for about the last 20 years.

Also we don’t know whether the atmosphere at home games is shite because of that or whether we are shite at home because the atmosphere is shite.

I blame Thatcher for taking away our terraces. Tuesday night at Grimsby with 7k on, 85% of us standing, no one fancied that. A Millwall fan even titled his book with that.

He scores when he starts, he scores when he comes off the bench, and he scores when he doesn't. Now that's talent.

He may not be the best forward in the league but could be the most valuable.

Rumour going around that Notts have forgotten to install an update on their super computer and we now have the best data in the division...

I found it strange when Brighton lent us Barrington ,one of their players who by all accounts is 'one for the future ' at a lot higher level and cost them 3/4 of a million from City . I wonder if the FA cup game was what established the connection with Tony Blooms Jamestown data empire or whatever it is ?
We do seem to be heading in the right direction for once which might take a while to get used to

Back down to earth with defeat at Newport today probably

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me at all if Jason and Andrew used that opportunity to build some relationships. They've had discussions with plenty of clubs and owners in L1/2 that they were keen to replicate I certain ways so would make perfect sense that they'd make a beeline for the Brigthon owners given what was a perfect chance when they're very much probably the best example of what we aspire to be.

For all those off the field aspirations though, I really hope we dont ever become another Brighton. As nice a day out it was, it was exactly that...nice. Nice for us, nice for them, nice stadium, nice fans mixing outside the ground...but a fairly bland atmosphere really.

I think it's a very average league this season. No real stand out team. As a Wimbledon supporter I've not seen anyone outplay us this season. The majority of teams can beat each other on any given day.

Yep agree with this. We've been outplayed by four teams who all sit in the four spots immediately above us but three of them only have two points more than us and the other three points more. Average league in quality, but it all being so close could definitely it make it wide open for plenty of teams.

It’s what it always seems to be really, fairly even, we’ve had as tougher games against the bottom sides like Accrington and today as we have Notts or MK. There’s not the gulf you have between top and bottom of L1 for example.

We’ve found ourselves 5 points clear at the top and haven’t really got out of second gear so far, just been fairly consistent, pretty much a carbon copy of how Moore had Sheff Wednesday playing, 1-0 away wins despite the quality he had, just efficient.

No one we’ve played has been particularly decent, nor really bad. Have some good footballing sides like County and some good physical sides like AFCW and some hard working sides like Harrogate and Morecambe. Each game presents a different challenge in that aspect which is probably more than you used to get.

I still think it’s too early in the season to say for sure. Last season the big budget sides all went up, but they had their wobbles, for a while it looked like welshholywood were going to miss out. We started well, stayed up in the top 7 most of the season but due to lack of squad depth to cope with injuries we faded away quite dramatically and Crawley were worth play off winners. I think this season Vale have the best padded out squad in that all areas of the pitch seemed to have good cover, I would be shocked if you were not top 3 and astounded if you miss or fail in the play offs. I think Doncaster will come good, they don’t have to come from as far back this season. I think so long as we don’t have the same injury crisis we will be knocking on the door of the automatic spots, possibly Grimsby will be a challenge, and certainly Walsall to. All the mentioned can’t go straight up but I would bet they will all be top 7, from what I have seen so far. Notts feel like they might implode again, Bradford you always think should do something but never do, maybe Wimbledon could be the Crawley of this season, but yeah, it will be a bit tighter this time around.

It’s hard to say, January will play a part. I expect Walsall will lose Lowe, if a striker scores on loan like he is then he is either going back to play for Stoke or going to a League One club realistically.

The bigger budget clubs will likely pick up a couple in January to aid their causes and you always get one come from nowhere to challenge.

Notts have real quality so would be stunned if they drop off, the only thing you would say with the footballing sides is how they cope in the winter months on horrendous pitches away from home for instance and if they lost Jatta for a period.

I can never back Vale not to let me down either! Granted we have money now but it’s deep in our blood to expect it to happen!

You say average, I say competitive.

A sign of a shit league to me is 3 or 4 sides running away with it and pummelling the other 20 odd clubs week in week out. Surely a competitive league where there's no obvious promotion winners is better for football as a whole?

Thing is with Darren Moore sides and the Vale they have one thing in common.

Always start well then tail off in the New Year. That said, you really would think that shouldn't happen this season!

The reality is, both definitions are correct. It is an average league. Nobody really comes close to the quality the top 3 last season had. But you are right in that a more balanced leagues makes thing more interesting. Can see the title, top 3 and top 7 races all going down the final couple of games in April and May.

I wonder if the points totals for both will be lower for both aswell , I can see loads been 'in the race ' until near the end aswell, as you say .

Maybe relegation will be pretty tight to with a lowish total .
