You would normally write Tranmere off in these circumstances, but then you would also have written Cheltenham and Hartlepool off at various points in the season.

Surely we can just find a way to be marginally better than that lot.

Cheltenham's win has taken the gloss off a good night for us.

Before I was only concerned about Hartlepool and Tranmere, but now they've gatecrashed the party.

Big chance blown by Hartlepool and tranmere tonight. I can see it all coming down to our game at BP on the last day, it's going to be nervy.

All we need is one more win, that's all. I just can't see where it's going to come from though.

Bury last game of the season is going to be ridiculous, away end will be sold out and they'll be about 500 home fans in the other 15,000 seats! And that'd still be 500 more fans than this shower shit deserve!

I know it shouldn't have, but that made me laugh. It's probably the fact I'm on the verge of tears and it's one or the other.

Cheltenham need 2 wins out of 3 games to overtake us, and that's if we don't gain any further points. They're all against decent opposition, and I think they will still go down.

Tranmere have a winnable game coming up, followed by two tough games. 2 wins would see them overtake us on GD. Think they're going down I'm afraid, is that 2 wins in 16 now?

Hartlepool have 3 tough games, and would need 1 win, 2 draws or 2 wins to overtake us.

That's without us gaining anymore points, and I think we'll get at least one more win. Should see us safe.

Tell me about it. I honestly fear for Micky's safety if he is still here on 2nd May.

Looking at our GD (-19) compared to Hartlepools (-29), we could do with playing damage limitation football in these 3 certain defeat matches we've got coming up. Try and limit them to 1 goal defeats.

How we managed to get away with that is madness. Drysdale did everything he possibly could do give tranmere a lifeline, he was ridiculous.

Tranmeres finishing let them down, really poor. Their fans made right tits of themselves kicking off towards the end, they probably knew tonight wasn't for them.

Big shout to both the Mansfield defence, but also the fans - magnificent in voice tonight.

Not safe yet, but nearly

I reckon Tranmere could be bottom tonight, fancy Cheltenham to nick a win at home to Cambridge, I mean lets face it they're not going to get a better chance for three points from now until the end of the season. And I'd go for Mansfield beating Rovers as well.

Good call mate.

I wouldn't mind us going for Adams if we go down. I think he'd bring us back up, he's proven for getting teams promoted.

Can't see Tranmere getting out of it, however When we came down we beat Torquay who came 5th? on the last day and Crawley who came 3rd the week before, so its not a full gone conclusion yet...

It's been confirmed as a wind up merchant. Sorry.
However, I've followed Carlisle quite closely over the last 2 years given our similar predicaments, and believe me he offers nothing that Kavanagh and Curle haven't already tried.
You're more than welcome to him, mind.

well we are out of this mess for another year at least, and it is thanks to an absolute worldie of a strike from Russell Penn.

I advise all and sundry on here to try to find it tomorrow, you will all appreciate it as a belter!

Fair play to Wilcox who has really turned it around. It's fair to say his appointment was not met with any sort of enthusiasm but given the dross he inherited to be sat top of the form table is nothing short of a miracle. We now need to make sure we move forward next season, our last at BC before we move into the new stadium.

Absolutely shocked to see the bottom of league 2 where the entire bottom 4 have been in league 1 in the last 5 seasons, with Tranmere and Carlisle previously involved in potential promotion or play-off campaigns in league one. Totally bizarre. I shall seriously cherish every last season in mid table from this day forward. Must be horrific for your fans.

I think being realistic that could not have gone much better for Carlisle than that tonight. I knowyes one won, but given the fixtures they were never all losing and the one which won was the furthest from us. Means sides still needing 2 wins from 3 to catch us

Looks like at least we're going down fighting, that's the fans and not the players on tonights showing.

Jesus christ Tranmere, we didn't agree this was ok when you appointed Adams way back then. Genuinely shocked at how awfully they've fared - and you look at that starting XI and you'd probably say on 'paper' they shouldn't be down there. Is there something wrong with the mentality of the players maybe?

Love seeing Cheltenham get that win tonight as well, decent fixture against Northampton for them next where 3 points should be a realistic expectation again (Although I think Cheltenham have some sort of horrific head-to-head record against them which doesn't bode well).

Still looks like 2 from 3, but Cambridge are bloody lucky they've shithoused their way out of this. Or more fairly they're lucky they had a good first half to the season.

Plenty of kick offs around the ground after by the looks of it too. Saw about 40 Mansfield ready for it, coppers all over it but heard there was a scuffle near our main boozer.

Our record v Northampton is pretty even, won 11 drawn 8 lost 10.

We were absolutely brilliant today, could've been 5 were it not for a couple of questionable decisions. Play like that 3 more times and we'll win them all. With any luck Northampton and Wimbledon will already be thinking of their summer hols and Shrews will already be promoted when we play them!

Why the police fall for it everytime is beyond me. They just allow the problem to move onto nottingham road and there's more chance of hassle. If they can't deal with 500 tranmere fans they should get a different job. If it's that bad, just keep them behind for 5 mins

Just looked at the head-to-head and I've got it the wrong way around (in recent times anyway). Bar the play-off's you've been decent against them for years.
