Worrying times for County. Their fans have had a hard time of it in recent years

Been slagging off Hardy since he came in really, one of those where the County fans just could not / did not want to see it.

He’s a absolute ducking bellend, and deserves everything he’s getting at the moment.

A mate of mine has worked with his company and hin directly and said exactly the same thing

It was obvious from day one that this was not somebody capable of running football club correctly, County fans unfortunately just seemed to brush aside the obvious concerns with him - which is understandable, especially when things were going well last season.

Almost everyone thought he was a bellend, but I will admit that I didn’t think he was capable of mismanagement to the extent of ruining his own successful business.

Anyway, players and staff have been paid for this month which is a positive.

How will that sit with the HMRC though if owing them? Is it a big debt to them? Luckily if Administration does come along a CVA should be possible as the HMRC always vote against it but if a small fraction of overall debt other creditors can force it through.

Whole thing seems to have spiralled for Hardy and Notts potentially very quickly.

I think the vast majority of Notts fans always found the guy a bit of a knobhead (certainly me and the ones I know) but up until last summer what evidence was there that he was capable of mismanagement to this extent?

All I can go off on is from this site, whenever I called him a nonce, bellend, etc I was usually met with a ‘but’ I suggested he was bad for the club despite the funding he provided, but that’s turned out to be false aswell unfortunately.

I'm struggling to see why any sane person would want to buy County? They're losing a fortune ('easy' to sort, just cut your cloth) but besides that, asset wise there's basically nothing?

Our local radio reporting that the HMRC debt is £200k - Hardy offered them four weekly payments of £50k which was turned down, with a court case set for April now.

The positive way of looking at that is that he’s buying time to try and get a sale through, but who knows.

I don’t think that any sane person should be buying us either, but I suspect they will. People like buying football clubs for some reason and Notts are well supported, have a big ground, a well known brand and are in a big city so have the potential for growth.

Every single person who tries it gets it wrong, but they’ll keep trying I imagine.

And I think until last summer the but was largely justified. Seems weird saying this now but twelve months ago when I went to matches the team were good, crowds were good (and still are), the clubhouse was clean, adequately staffed with decent grub, the club shop was well stocked, whenever I had to ring up my issues were dealt with quickly and professionally, and the club's media and marketing efforts were (and still are) exceptional. I've been a Notts fan since 1986 and the place genuinely never felt better ran.

The first real warning signs emerged in the summer with the bizarre recruitment that has led us to our current travails on the pitch. Before then the fact he was a dickhead was largely tolerable. And while it may have been possible to predict our doom, I don't think anyone could have guessed it would come because he managed to destroy what apparently was a long standing and hugely successful company.

Agree with the above, he’s owned and run an incredibly successful award-winning business for 26 years (until now) with a multi-million pound turnover - in that regard he’s not much different from your own JR. Things improved on the pitch and crowds were (and still are) up. There was more interest in Notts in the city of Nottingham than in years among the general population. Sure he was a tosser (pretty much literally!) on Twitter, but beyond that it isn’t like there were ‘warning signs’. No-one knows what has gone wrong at Paragon.

I think how he’s acted in the media, Twitter, the weird summer recruitment are all pretty good warning signs. He almost comes across mentally ill and anything was/is possible if that was the case.

The financial troubles have caught everybody off, he did a good job portraying he still had a successful business up until a month or so ago on Twitter, but somethings always felt a bit off.

I think it’s fair to say this has been a bit surprising but it’s naive to suggest it’s come entirely out the blue.

Twitter is a mine field for chairmen, bar the Accrington Chairman who seems to utilise it well. Smurf made some terrible PR gaffes using it.

Oh I definitely agree with that. But I do think it's unfair to say that Notts fans shouldn't have been happy on the balance of things up until last summer. As I say, there was plenty of reason to be upbeat.

Good luck to you County, hope you can come through (relatively) unscathed.

Shocking how badly run clubs are in England, we should look at the German model where they have the 51% fan ownership rule to stop things like this happening.

Unfortunately for Notts, last time we were owned by the fans the club ended up being hijacked by a small group of them who ran it without any regard to the views of others and eventually sold it to a convicted fraudster masquerading as Arab royalty. Just another weird story from our batshit existence.

I don't know that much of the German model, but presumably there is enough regulation around to ensure those kind of insane stories don't happen.

It does happen in Germany, 1860 Munich being a recent example, but clearly it’s a better model and it’s rarer.

HMRC are usually happy to do an agreement to get paid arrears over a period of time unless there is already an agreement in place and he hasn’t fulfilled his side of the agreement, or they are aware of something else and believe that if they don’t get their money now, they will never get it.

Either way, not looking good.

Fingers crossed for you guys. Don’t want to see you go down never mind go belly up.

I think this is true generally but not with football clubs.

Similar to Vale when we were owned by the fans. Seemed to go ok at first but then certain individuals treated it as their own personal fiefdom. Just subsitute Munto for fake investment from some AstroTurf company in America in our case. There’s good examples such as Exeter but it isn’t always the answer sadly.

Either way hope things work out well for Notts. Sad to see these kind of things happen to any club.

You wouldn’t touch them if you had any sense.

Nothing about them is currently appealing, you’d wait until they’re in the conference next season and get it cheaper.

It can’t be a good sign when HMRC Are refusing instalments

Still recall that Tuesday night game when they blazed it all over the tannoy against Bradford of this £8 Million investment to secure us for years... embarrassing. People not paying shares, limiting Robbie Williams investment... just so poorly managed it was.

Players got a free trip to Seattle/Vancouver out of it I guess... (all be it Adams went nuts when he saw the training facilities!)
