As I expected today with Notts and Macc winning. Ardley’s acceptance of draws and refusal to just try rolling the dice in the winnable games we have drawn has relegated us.

So Macclesfield just need a point at home to Cambridge then looking at the goal difference. You'd have to fancy them for that.

I used to think Yeovil sticking with their manager for such a long time was admirable. But still, I won't say that particular decision was what ultimately got them relegated. Nobody can either.

Commiserations to Yeovil, a decent club with friendly fans imo. I hope they can sort it out and challenge at the top end of the conference next year.

Stranger things have happened but I'll be amazed if we do beat Macc. I would've have given us a chance if Calderwood went with his strongest side but he hasn't done that for the last two games and I expect him to do the same again next week.

Sides like Grimsby are the type you’d want to play at anytime of the season, let alone when there’s something to play on.

Big win for macc though

Sorry to see Yeovil go down, far from the worst sides seen at Prenton Park this season and a decent set of fans.

Agreed. I thought they weren't the poorest side to visit the Abbey this year, and they were also decent when they beat us at theirs. But hearing this from a Tranmere fan - a very good side unlike us -makes it much more credible. I mean I'm not exactly in a good position to rate or slate other sides seeing my own lot are hopeless.

I thought you looked a really good side against us. It’d be really nice if you could play that team next week, thanks.

Yeah, that was a decent performance at Meadow Lane, and we did deserve it, though we certainly weren't the better team
in that 3-2 win over you lot back in August.

Thing is our line up in that 1-0 win was this-

Forde
Halliday - Taft - Taylor - Carroll
Amoo - Deagan - Brown - Maris
Ibehre - Hepburn Murphy

and IMO that is our strongest line up, with the exception of Forde as I prefer Mitov between the sticks. Unfortunately for you lot, only the 4 players in bold started the game today.

Sad to see Yeovil go down...Sad to see Notts or Macc go down too.

Hopefully, with a bit of rebuilding, you can come back stronger. Not too strong mind.

Comiserations to yeovil fans. Gutted to see one of our nearest league games go down. Hope you survive in the basement and don't sink further.

As said Yeovil by far the worst side we’ve played both times we’ve met but a real odd ball as started well enough and got some good results in them early doors.

Been a crazy journey for them over 16 years and hope they xome back.

Think Notts are gone now after we rolled over today.

Ah Yeovil. Been coming for a couple of years, but it's still crazy to see them go from the Championship in 13-14 to non-league. Quite the fall. Doubt many will miss them, purely because their ground is a bitch to get to. Best of luck next season.

Notts County get the win they needed, but Agent Askey giving Macc a leg up has made their situation look very grim. Still, they go to Swindon, who have dropped off massively of late. Fair chance they can win there.

Although, it'll require Cambridge beating Macc, as a point for the Silkmen will keep them up, barring a 9 goal County win. Fair play to Campbell and Macc, they still need to do it, but it's very much in their hands to stay up.

So, is there any chance Macc lose and County win to see Notts survive? Or is it done and dusted?

On the flip side, ticking over the points total with draws isn't too bad a plan in theory given that teams around you generally lose. That, coupled with being appalling defensively, meant that you couldn't really afford to open much? I think if you'd done that then you'd already be down.

Commiserations Yeovil and County, I know the latter aren’t down yet but there’s no way we’re winning another game this season regardless of who we play. We are utter turd I’m afraid.

I disagree on Deegan. He is a liability when he plays for us and it’s no coincidence that we haven’t won with him in the team since 2nd March. Another goal given away by him again, we were walking to a draw at Mansfield before his suicidal moment. He’s dangerous to us when he’s on the pitch.

It's the way we've done it. 5 wins, 7 draws, 7 losses in 2019. If we'd bothered winning just one game in the first 13, this would allow over by now.

Yeovil looked world beaters back in August at our place, absolutely hammered us.
Fair play to Macc, they've picked up points consistently under Sol.
We actually played alright against a moderate Grimsby today but should have been trying to win games like that for weeks rather than playing plodball and settling for draws.

Cambridge might have enough incentive to go for the win if they care enough about who they're playing next season. And with due respect to Macclesfield, who would most fans rather have in the Football League, them or Notts?

Problems are though:
(1) They may not think that way because most footballers are, well, a bit thick.
(2) They might not have that much incentive to perform well if they think it's likely they won't even be playing in League 2 next season, let alone at Cambridge.
(3) Even if they give 100%, it's hard to match the energy levels of a team that will fight tooth and nail for their league status, even one that will only need a draw, when you haven't got anything meaningful to play for.

I hope the outcome is different, but the most likely scenario is Notts getting a nervy 1-0 win at Swindon with a bore 0-0 draw at Macc.

Out of curiosity, if Bury and Bolton fold, will the sides relegated into non league be given a reprieve?

Firstly, commiserations to Yeovil. When you beat us 4-0 on that Friday night back in August (and followed it up with a 6-0 win at Newport a few weeks later) I don’t think anyone thought you would be down here come late April. Hopefully you can sort out your off-field issues and have a decent season next year.

As for us... well we look to have a 5% chance at best of staying up. Shame because we actually looked like we wanted it yesterday (albeit against a very on the beach Grimsby side) and when news came through Yeovil had been pegged back against Northampton while we were still celebrating our first goal and a roar rippled round the ground it looked like the great escape could be on. But then Macc scored and all eyes were on Vale Park praying for an equaliser that never came.

It wasn’t to be, all you can really say is it was at least pleasing we didn’t get relegated with a whimper in front of our own fans, with the ugly scenes that may have followed (especially with the Smurf in attendance again!).

On to Swindon then. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we win there too, and i still think 2500-3000 will travel, more in hope than expectation. But with Cambridge fans already writing off their hopes of a win at Macc, it really will be the slimmest of hopes.

Commiserations to Yeovil, always liked going there shame to see all that hard work getting all the way to the Championship fall apart like it has.

At least the National League is shite these days so coming straight back up is possible.

Stranger things have happened than us losing to Cambridge. All it takes is an incident akin to Cameron's red card at Cheltenham, and it's not like we're consistently playing well at the moment either.

Danny Whitaker off the bench for his 7000th (and possibly last) appearance to score a 96th minute equaliser to keep us up. Crowd of 1800 (1000 outside still queuing to get in) go wild.

Maybe, but still a difficult league to get out of. The pair dropping out of L2 last season were closer to getting relegated than coming straight back up, a feat last managed by Bristol Rovers 4 years ago. Hopefully Yeovil (and Notts if they do drop) can buck that trend. Getting the right manager in post will be key for Yeovil.
