Well done Macc. Players not getting paid and Sol with no managerial experience stuck together and got themselves over the line. Even today when a goal down they stuck at it and got the point.

Notts will runaway with the Conference title next season. The standard of that league is shite these days.

Not sure experience is the right word, it's been 16 years since they were last in non-league, and they're currently a bit of a mess behind the scenes with new owners expected through the door. Clubs who have bounced back have usually done so because they were set up right before they even went down. Cheltenham got Gary Johnson in charge. Likewise Bristol Rovers with Darrel Clarke, we had our ownership issues sorted the season before we went down, too late to arrest the decline but still in good shape once down there.
I still think it helps if both supporters and officials are used to the idea of the club being 'non-league' and don't view that status as a stigma. Our fans took months to adjust, which created a lot of tension between owners, manager and supporters, certainly until Mellon took charge.

Financially, I think it is also easier for naturally 'smaller' clubs to cut their cloth when they are relegated, whereas the more established clubs have massive overheads and can take longer to streamline their operations.

I did see a few tweets from journalists that Notts don't have any relegation clauses in contracts? How many are under contract?

We made the same mistake but luckily only had five players under contract, although those 5 took up over one third of that seasons budgets and we couldn't get rid...

I hope that proves to be the case as we haven't got anything else positive going on at our club. The takeover sounds shadier and shadier the longer it goes on, we have no idea who our new manager will be but with Neale Marmon being Sporting Director it won't be anyone good. We've still got no money so there will be a number of other clubs with bigger budgets than us.

That was beating Newport 6-0 at their place a few weeks later.

Lol sounds like you had quite the season. Newport? They’ll never do anything this season l;)

I wish we had at least a couple of big wins like that. Our rare highlights were single goal victories

If we hadn't started so well we'd have been relegated in March lol

Think Chesterfield, Hartlepool and Wrexham will give them a go.

A crazy season for Notts given last season and the money spent in pre-season. That's two Clubs with top end budgets being relegated in as many seasons. They'll be back at some point, but from the outside, they don't look like an Orient/Bristol Rovers/Tranmere type, more a Grimsby/Lincoln one.

Well they're up for sale so anything could happen.

It would be shockingly pessimistic for the title favourites to put relegation clauses in player contracts. You want me to sign a relegation clause? But you're Notts County are you having a fucking laugh?

I mean Alan Hardy seems like the kind of person who would have been thinking exactly that way.

Would like to think you're right but realistically we're a couple of seasons off promotion yet.

We're still suffering due to the Coxhall and Goldberg regime who got us down there and while things are getting resolved, you have a feeling we're not going to challenge for a while.

Really for us anything less than top 7 is poor but we have to be realistic and accept top half next year and keep building on that. We just haven't got the money to compete for the top 3.

I think we have under contract:

Ross Fitzsimons
Matt Tootle
Enzio Boldewijn
Andy Kellett
Kane Hemmings
Will Patching
Jim O’Brien
Mitch Rose
Kristian Dennis
Tom Crawford

Possibly Vaughan and Doyle as well, no one seems sure on what contracts they signed.

Part of our problem was there was a huge gulf between Brabin and the fans, which GB never tried to bridge. With hindsight, he wasn't that bad a manager, but whoever Notts and Yeovil appoint as managers will need to be able to work at this level and keep the fans onboard during the difficult adjustment times

Yes, Brabin was the problem. But then he is typical of managers at that level, whereas Mellon is the exception.

Yep, I'm not suggesting they should have had. We didn't because we didn't expect to be relegated (though we were expecting to go up either).

You should be able to shift a few of them - Boldewijn, Kellett, Hemmings, Dennis, for example, although Dennis is probably one you should keep hold of for that level.

It'll be interesting to see whether Ardley stays or not. In hindsight, we made the mistake of sticking with Tilson. He'd been with us long enough to gauge him better than we did and at times, even though the manager may not have had a full season, it's good for a clean break and I think that's a similar situation Notts are in.

Cheltenham did right by appointing Gary Johnson because he had the experience they were going to need on relegation.

Staggering to me.

There's only 6 clubs in the country that don't need default relegation clauses in contracts.

In fact I'd be in favour of the EFL insisting on them for every single multiple year contract.

I'd hope that Vale insist on them regardless of whether we're fancied or not and if a player wont sign a contract because of it then he can go elsewhere.

It'd be up to the club/player to negotiate a relegation release clause if they want, but it's not sensible at all to be able to omit that clause in my opinion.

Almost certain at least one of Lincoln/Mansfield will go for Boldewijn.

I think Dennis is good enough for this level, however he does appear to actually be cursed.

We won't appoint anyone who will be capable of keeping our fans on board, because we're on a downward spiral that cannot be stopped.

I’d be surprised, he’s been pretty poor the last half of the season. The confidence that saw him taking players on and scoring worldies for the first few months just seemed to evaporate. I like Hemmings though and expecting some L2 bids for him.

As for Dennis, not sure who would take him after an underwhelming season with us (never got going to be fair after an injury in pre-season) and loan spell with Grimsby, should score goals at NL if fit and played correctly (as he wasn’t with us)

We haven’t used Boldewijn well but he’s been disappointing, a player who scores great goals and has great moments but just doesn’t get involved or look like he wants to get involved enough.

Hemmings will surely go - quietly had a good season and would win our player of the year if we had to give it to someone. Would be a great signing for anyone in League Two or even lower League One.

Dennis I suspect we’re stuck with but that’s not necessarily a bad thing if we can get him fit and the right kind of partner.

God knows who’d take Kellett, the man is constantly injured. Suspect we’d want to keep Rose and O’Brien who have been decent enough since coming in, Tootle who is a good right back when fit and Crawford who has done well on loan at Fylde.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’d be minded to stick with Ardley.
