I bet if Cook goes he'll probably end up banging in 20 goals somewhere...

I wouldn't have kept him based on the last few months of the season, but in the photos from pre-season, it looks like he has slimmed down significantly. If we could get the Andy Cooke pre-Christmas it'd be a no brainer for me.
Yeah he’ll score and I like him, just don’t think he’s any use as a lone striker not really got the pace, mobility and hold up to perform the role and I think that’s what we’ll be after.

Do you still think we'll play 4-2-3-1? I thought we looked dreadful when using it under Adams and the total opposite when Hughes came in. Angol looked really good up top on his own to me.

I think he may go for a three at the back. Platt, Odusina and Crichlow have experience playing in a three from last season and Vale fans say Harratt is suited to a front two.

My only concern with that is for it to work, the wingbacks have to be really good and attack minded. Ours aren't.

I don’t know but it’s certainly a modern formation and I think he played it at Stoke with Bojan in behind Crouch, we’ve already upgraded with Walker ;)

Got to be happy with Timi based on the comments of the Pools fans, on Andy Cook, to repeat what’s been said - more than decent striker for this league but not suited to how we set up under Hughes last season. TFF exclusive rumour, Charlie Savage on loan a potential.

Saw plenty of times we 'bent over and spread our cheeks' when we had your man in charge here, if I was a Carlisle fan after surviving the drop last season I would be looking over my shoulder with him around. I appreciate Carlisle is the only club he hasn't been an abject failure however.

Anyway, it's other fans on here bigging up the dream makers, every County fan will be happy to finish in the playoffs, hope you guys can avoid the drop as it's not nice to see the traditional clubs fall through that trap door.
Don’t worry, we’re always looking over our shoulder whoever the manager is. I wouldn’t say he was a complete abject failure at Shrewsbury either, narrowly beaten in a L2 playoff final…

All my original point was, is that consolidating in this league after promotion isn’t a bad season, especially when you have a complete novice in terms of EFL management in charge. If you do better than that then great, brilliant achievement, but expectations should be a little more conserved for the time being as it is a step up despite what Adam Virgo will have you believe.

Yeah I would agree with that. I quite like Ridehalgh saying that; I think he had a good partnership with Vernam, but he's gone, and if Ridehalgh gets injured, then we're left with Foulds and I don't think he's particularly attack minded.

I'm starting to get a bit giddy for the new season...

Gonna laugh my arse off if Stockport don't get promoted again. :pmsl:
Why?

We’ve made five signings and four are from non-league. I’m not going to pretend we’re aren’t spending money but it’s not like we’ve got some ridiculous squad too good for this level.

Our first choice 11 as it stands with maybe one more first choice to be added

Hinchliffe - not played/proven beyond the NL
Lewis - not played/proven beyond NL
Horsfall - proven top end League Two quality player
Johnson - Port Vale reject deemed not good enough for this level last season
Southam-Hales - not played/proven beyond NL
Hippolyte - let go by the worst team in this division last season
Collar - Not played/proven beyond NL
Croasdale - Not played/proven beyond NL
Sarcevic - Proven top end League Two quality
Wootton - Much improved but failed at this level last time round
Madden - Proven top end League Two quality

Maybe some legs in it.
Apparently Bogle hasn't travelled to Portugal,as he's in talks with another club.
How true,who knows.

I think he'd do well for you if he did sign. Assuming you can keep him motivated for the entire season. He tends to lose his way a little in December from what we've seen. Gauranteed 10+ goals though in my opinion.

Thought I hadn’t seen Bogle in any of the pics in Portugal but assumed was just a coincidence.

Sure he signed like a 2/3 year deal so would be getting a fee if true.

Not quite sure why they should be, the top end of the National League isn't like it was years ago, if Sutton can have a playoff challenge with their squad no reason we can't do the same given our squad is significantly stronger.

Playoffs is achievable, I would be slightly disappointed if we don't achieve that - have a feeling if we're underperforming we will probably go a bit crazy in the January window, depending on how the non-league players settle in. For me we're still short a quality proven striker as I don't rate Quigley as high as other County fans.

For now though, it's just about enjoying being back here after over a decade in purgatory.

Both Crawley and Stockport should be as dissapointed as Salford constantly are for not getting promoted with their budgets I'd have thought.

Can’t see a League team being interested, return to Solihull maybe?

Don't really get the point you’re trying to make. Simpson has managed successfully at both this level and the level you’ve become accustomed to. I’m sure he’s well aware of the gap between the two divisions.
Think you will find the top 7 teams in the national league are better than most in div 2 and its a harder league to get out of with only 1 team (county) who went up as champions with 94 points.I am quite confident that we will do well this year that was without the new signings. Now we have upped the ante. I am going to say we will finish in the top 3. I await your replys.

He’ll apparently be training with us. We’ve offered to cover his rehab and put him in touch with another specialist to see if can get him back to fitness. We’ll see, him and DC have a strong relationship and maybe he thought it was a safer option than under a manager he’s never played for. Be a great option to have in the number 10 role though if it works out.
Fantastic player before the injury problems Sunderland were said to want him in that January window the big thing is if he will ever play again its looked unlikely the past 12 months broke down a few times when close to coming back.Good luck to him though and i suspect DC would have been in for him last season if he had regained his fitness.

Joking aside I’m finding it hard to see past Stockport for the title, but with Bradford their closest contender. Of course there’s more business to be done, but currently they’re my top two.

Third I’ve no idea.

Why does it rarely happen then these days?

Most of the teams who’ve come up over recent years have found it a step up. Yes the odd one will do really well, but they are few and far between. If the NL is as good as you say, why don’t teams regularly come up and go straight through to League 1? Why haven’t Salford, why haven’t Barrow? Etc etc.

I’m going by what I’ve seen on the live games on BT btw, plus the above.

I’m not writing you off, just saying a consolidating season wouldn’t be a bad season considering the step up, and if you do finish top 3, your levels will have stepped up massively from last season.

We won't be anywhere near the title. I fancy us to finish in the playoffs though.

I don't really know much about Stockport. Where have they got all this money from?

We’ve re-signed stephen quinn on a 1 year deal which is a massive bonus for us, the lads quality in midfield and we need his experience.

We’ve thankfully got in recruitments also in midfield as he clearly can’t play every game.

:fl:

FWIW Stockport will do very well and they should with the backing they have.

The quality you see on the BT games is usually abysmal, i watched most of the playoff games and the standard was lower half league 2 - there was no side there which made me think they’d trouble mansfield for instance.

Of course playoffs aren’t the true picture and you can put in a terrible performance (as we sadly did) but i don’t really imagine a side just walking through the league.

Mind, as chesterfield and southend (i think have done) if you can come down from league 1 and go straight down again there’s no reason as to why it can’t be done the other way.

Quinn is still quality especially at this level, we do need to protect him better though and be able to rest him more rest season.

Mate, your recent fetish for turning everything you post to be about us is getting slightly obsessive.

They are minted from an extremely wealthy fan I believe, they’re like Wrexham but more quiet about it. They did play some great stuff last season (from what I saw), and I’d love their signings for the Gills but we’re not in the same ball park financially.

Impressed by your additions too.
