I think Hughes just expected Cook to play second-fiddle when Oliver arrived. I mean, Cook did start the season on the bench.

Oliver did a job over the Xmas period. Notched a couple of goals when Cook was rested. Not to mention that last minute equaliser against Wimbledon (I think).

I can actually see Oliver leaving
I don’t think anyone else will match Olivers contract with you, the sensible thing to do would be keep sitting on the bench and let it run out.

I'll always be fond of him for his part in the title-winning team a couple of seasons ago, but he never really made the step up for us last year. The fact we kept messing around all sorts of permutations for LCB while he was sitting on the bench said plenty about the lack of trust in him. Hope he does well for you but he's not going to be a regular starter for anyone who's serious about promotion.

Most of the reviews from Cambridge fans on twitter seem positive, which is all very positive. Seems like he's rapid.

Shilow lost his way last season due to injuries and our formation change. A typical winger who is quick but run's into trouble too often.

He's frustrating but on his day is unplayable. Unfortunately we hardly saw it last season and league two is probably his level.

Im surprised by this because Gilliead won’t get much game time, but what a player to have around the squad.

Midfield is looking ridiculously strong. Far stronger than the likes of a Grimsby’s, for example.

Definitely.

He won’t be played out of position all season long, neither.

You've got that fishing line out again. Think Gilly will make a lot of appearances one way or another.

Offers no goal threat, no assists or defensive qualities but hey, we’ll play him every game and give him a two year deal then someone on another thread asks why we aren’t getting promoted. Gillead must be laughing his socks off, Jack of all trades master of none but a nice guy, 100%er, better not be a starter because we’ve failed again in recruitment if he is.

Bit unkind and personally am pleased he has signed. Think back to our playoffs and tell me how strong our subs bench was in each of the 2 games. Had Gilly been on that bench would Platt have come on as a replacement for a knackered front right man? We don't know how McDs legs are and if another mid is having to do the running of one and a half men(creates quite a picture), is he expected to last 90 mins of any game?

Yep certainly sounds it. Here's what you said about him last week...
He’s done a job in central midfield but doesn’t contribute a great deal.

We’ve had him on-loan years prior and he played on the wing. Again, he rarely contributes anything of real note.
It's really important when you're trying to not go up with a massive budget that you get those players into the squad that don't contribute anything.

…and if you asked if Harry Lewis was any good, I’d say he’s shite too.

Keep off our prize assets. It was enough to make Morecambe look the other way and sign Songo’o - job done!

It’s no wonder Bradford have been in this league for so long because according to their fans every player they either let go, or who has ever played for them and signs for somebody else, is shit apparently.

Load of nonsense because Firthy has rattled you with him wumming. Nobody has called Vernam shit, Eisa is though as I’m sure you will find out. If a player is crap we will tell you.

Gilliead will be fourth choice CM here I would suspect and that is incumbent with his skill level. He doesn't excel in any area and is bog standard or dreadful in all of them.
