Barring a system change, Nemane really doesn't fit anywhere else. I think we do have a the personnel to go to a different system now at least but I can't see it being top priority.

The Wrexham away game is a good example of why I would want/expect another defender in, Bajrami cost us one or two of the goals (depending on your opinion on the foul in the build up to the first), and you can make an argument he could have done better with the other, too. I'm confident that Wrexham team on that run is a better side than most we'll face this year, but we can't be starting that back 3 often if we want to be successful.

I think we will go for another center back. Rawlo will be a back up. Brindley or another will slot in. We are a system team now so I can't see us abandoning that on a whim. It would be a big shift to change the way we play

Conceding goals will be part of how we play but we will be a possession team that trust ourselves to score more and keep hold of the ball in order to starve the opposition of opportunities. The only thing that will change it is if we start poorly and things have to change

I guarantee you’ll get shithoused more often than you think - especially at home.

Do you think you'll utilise him the same way? I felt he struggled to make an impact against us with Notts unable to play their game to their full effect with us exploiting the Notts high line over and over. Mendy also got the better of him.

One thing's for sure, you won't be boring to watch next season.
Mendy was the better of the two at your place. Nemane had a great season for us but I suspect we'll mix and match more with Austin, Randall and Jones all playing.
I think we need at least one centre half and a driving midfielder as Palmer is currently irreplaceable and after two years hard running and around 90 games with no suspensions he's about due an injury, hopefully not but we don't have adequate cover and we've a transfer window so can't just dip into loans like we used to.

I think so too and I'm worried that we've stacked the top end of the pitch with some tidy players but are short of some beef right through the spine of the team, from centre half to centre mid to having a single forward who's 6'. Size isn't everything but at this level a moderate big team beats a moderate small one most times.

When Lindsey was in charge last season he stocked the midfield entirely with his preferred midfielders - small, technical in his words. It was so obvious we were nowhere near robust enough to provide any protection for the defence. The number of times we crumbled when leading, conceding 1 then 2 in quick succession.

Some of the shite we got beaten by was embarrassing.

It’s surely got to be less than recently. You can count on one hand the number of teams who’ve come to Meadow Lane in the last two seasons and done something other than stick eleven men behind the ball, timewaste and try to kick us out of the game.

Think this is where Bostock is particularly useful for us, he’s that kind of player on paper but also six foot two and once we’d got him fit was pretty physically dominant in midfield for us.

We’ll see, we were told again and again that you couldn’t pass your way out of the National League and, if it wasn’t for the freak goings on at Wrexham, we would’ve done so as the best team that level has ever seen. It’ll be harder but there’s no reason for us not to be confident I don’t think.

No doubt. But the claggers and cloggers in L2 are better at it. You don’t really need to be a decent defender to mess up the tippy tappy players.

League 2 is much worse than the National League for it.

There are two ways to beat a high press.

Pass your way through it or a long ball over the top of it.

I wonder how long it will be before we see teams like Cambridge and Wimbledon from the eighties again.

But the promoted teams are nearly always the footballing teams(including Swindon)

Wouldn’t call Northampton a footballing side, though. Maybe I’m just bitter we were so dreadful last season!

There's bound to be someone looking at Stevenage last year and thinking they could replicate it.
Any teams noticeably signing huge players?

It's absolutely rife, as bad as it's ever been.

Pretty much every single team comes to VP and parks the bus with a few notable exceptions. It makes for awful viewing and we've just not been good enough to break it down consistently.

Welcome back!

We should absolutely keep playing good football but I think a couple more players of Bostock's build and his standard will be essential if only to make us more robust defensively.

Funnily enough AFCW were the worst for their agricultural style I saw last season, think we had two players out with concussion injuries and one further injured after playing them.

When he didn't resign for us I thought it was because he had a better offer on lge 2 not a lge 1 club. He's a solid lge 2 keeper, nothing special but not bad either. Be interesting if he can make the step up.
Did you listen to his exit interview? It sounded very much like he didn't sign for us because we only offered him a year and couldn't guarantee him first team football. I'm not sure if the Burton offer was on the table at that point, but it sounded like he really wanted to stay. Fair play to him though, he's done well to get a L1 club. I like him and would have offered him two years but brought in direct competition. Wish him all the best, he seems like a really sound guy and was part of some quality matches and great memories for us.

He wasn't a regular for Carlisle and they are not great payers it wouldn't be a surprise if a League Two outfit picked him up.

That's interesting because Sutton are real outsiders, but IIRC they were doing quite well at one point the season before last.
Are you basing that just on Harry Smith. all their other signings are quite small. but they're wingers / fullbacks.

We’ll certainly be big, but that alone won’t be enough. We need to find the pace and creativity to hurt sides at this level better than last season. We’ll have more of an idea once we’ve got another 3 wide players and forward in. Think a couple of those might be later in pre season as loanees. Defence and central midfield has a solid enough look to it. Should be very strong from set pieces.

I don't think I've seen so many fans confident with their clubs recruitment as there are here. Mind you, we thought we had recruited OK last season. :ffs:

Could be a very interesting.

I'll be quite happy to see Wimbledon go back to playing that way this season. Most supporter's couldn't careless how their team play as long as they win.League 2 is all about being pragmatic. You really don't have to be that good to get promoted out of this league.

Big Dunc has made pretty clear that is more or less what he wants - he has (rightly) criticised the lack of aggression shown by pretty much our entire team last season. Whether we will get it....is another matter. Part of me quite likes the idea of a Nailsworth Crazy Gang, even if it goes very much against the style we've been playing over the past few years

In Ryan Innis you already have a player of that ilk.

I do think we’re being mischaracterised as a tippy tappy team. We were under Burchnall and were many times completely ineffective against any team that could press and got men behind the ball. Last season we were far more pragmatic and mixed it up better. We’ll be absolutely fine going forward, not sure how many we’ll score but we’ll certainly score enough regardless of how much better teams are at this level of stifling us.

Defending balls over the top with our high line and conceding from set pieces will be our undoing if anything. Which is why I can’t see us not trying to find an upgrade at CB for Brindley and Rawlinson. Brindley is more comfortable on the ball and quicker but lacks any sort of aggression and leaves us a bit of a short team, Rawlinson adds more steel but obviously lacks pace and he’s not terrible on the ball but you saw last season that he was often the oppositions trigger to press because he was a lot weaker in possession than Baldwin and Cameron.
