Yeah, inconsistent sums him up. He'll probably do alright at Oxford. It's gone a bit stale and it's best for both parties that he moves on.

Expect a player with great energy and stamina but with very little end product. Doesn't score or create enough and will often go on a good 20/30 yard run, only to panic when he gets to the box as he seemingly as no idea what to do next. Can't tackle, definitely can't head the ball but will fool a lot of fans into thinking he's a world beater as he occasionally will have a very good game or score a decent goal.

A solid League 2 player but I'd like to think we'll be able to replace him with someone better.

And as for 'a step up'. :£:£:£

Carlsile, York and Ourselves have all offered contracts to Vadaine Oliver. According to the Daily Mirror.

What's he like, Mansfield fans?

I would've thought we'd be in a decent position to sign him given our location and budget. Not sure a target man is what we need though so maybe we haven't offered him a lot and are just making a cheeky offer for him as backup.

What's oliver like? Is he quick? I remember he scored against us in January but don't remember his all round game.

If we're getting forwards in we need pace. We already have Wyke and Rigg who are decent with the ball and get into good scoring positions but feel we need some pace in the final third.

I recall Oliver from our non league days - unimpressive from what I remember. I suppose he could've improved since then.

Yeah I really hope we're not in for him, he's never struck me as a good player, and I hope we can attract better forwards than him.

Apparently we're about to sign Nicky Derverdics from Dover:
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11717/9848749

Never heard of him, although a quick google suggests he's a left footed midfielder who apparently attracted interest from League One Scunthorpe in January:
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11725/9671071/scunthorpe-linked-with-deverdics

Hopefully he's better than the non-league players we signed last summer!

Really not enthused by this at all. Exact same type of player we signed last year, mid twenties career non league player whose had a half decent season.

I am all for signing players from non league, but up and coming young players with a bright future who we can potentially sell on for profit, not guys like this.

Looked good in the FA Cup game against Palace if my memory serves. Didn't he used to play for Barnet too?

Fully agree and I wasn't writing him off before he signed, obviously love him to do well. I am just very wary that we signed similar players last summer most of whom have already been told they can leave!

Still did bring a lot of good players through us but his hit rate wasn't great. For every Danny Green there was a Graeme Montgomery, Sean Shields and Danny Green (the other one).

A very mixed bag.

He was good for us but that was quite a few years ago, light weight but a good footballer with a cracking left foot on him. Don't know if he's up to football league standard anymore.

May god have mercy on your souls.

Nah he's such a nice lad who works really hard but seriously he's like bambi on ice when the ball is played to his feet.

Well hopefully we fail to sign him. But then again if he's shite and a failure he'll fit right in here.

Lightweight is exactly the word that I would use to describe Deverdics from his time with us.

To be fair, he did score 7 in 32 appearances for Mansfield. That probably translates as double figures over a full season at this level. He only scored 13 in in the conference with Lincoln, so double figures at this level is not that bad a ratio. Probably needs a small pacy striker who will get you 20 alongside him, but I wouldn't warn clubs at this level against signing him. League One, don't touch him. League Two, probably worth a gamble, especially on a free.

He only really played half a season with us in the Conference and I reckon he'd have been closer to 20 goals with a full season.

Striker Kane Hemmings has apparently agreed a contract with Luton, after scoring 5 goals in 28 appearances for Barnsley this season. Before signing last summer, he scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Championship.

Source? Quote from a Barnsley fan on their forum regarding this rumour:
"The only source I can find for this rumour is a Football Manager twitter account. Basically, a Luton Town fan playing Football Manager who tweets the players he/she's signed, on that game."

Isnt he the one whose career has been plagued by knee injury after knee injury from a young age? Think his dad played for us for a bit in the 90s or early 00s. He's supposed to be fairly talented but if his knees go then he's out for a season, it could be a bit of a risky signing for you.

Chapman is a good signing.

Why he disn't sign him when we went up as champions from the conference is beyond me.

Can score goals and creative - something we lacked last season

Hahaha, searched on Twitter. Looks like we've got Phil Edwards, Conrad Logan and Rhys McCabe too!

Hemmings would actually have been a decent signing for us too (as long as he stayed fit) - very quick isn't he, something we have lacked in our front two all season

The reason we didn't sign him two years ago was that he was under contract at Oxford and Newport had to pay a transfer fee. I think it was £100K.

Since reforming our club record fee paid was £35k for Joe Day earlier this season but that was deducted from the monies outstanding in the Conor Washington deal to Peterboro. Prior to that it was £25k for Christian Jolley. Ive no doubt that a fee was paid for Chapman, rumoured to be approx £10k. Dont forget Oxford at the time wanted to get rid and he was languishing in their reserves after falling out with their manager.
