We've completed the free transfer of Scott Malone after his release from Millwall. Means that for the first time in years we have two competent left backs, plus gives us the option to play wing backs as well. Still need to address the forward areas, but looking hopeful that a couple may come in this week in those positions.
Interestingly the club statement makes of point of saying he can play left midfield too, where we’re definitely light.

True, if we played a flat 4-4-2 then that'd work nicely.

He can also operate on the left side of midfield so gives us plenty of options.
Very happy with this one.
Edit:
Just seen the other comments re can play midfield.

A Championship regular having his head turned by the bright lights of the Medway Riviera now.

Ainley is absolute gash yet the club hoodwinked the fans into thinking he was a £1 million player in the making for years. Built a team around him for 5 straight seasons yet in the promotion season he wasn't a key player.

Fairweather player who cant hack the cold. Usually has 3 or 4 months out injured mid-season too. Very lightweight as well.

Goalscoring record for a CAM is absolutely wretched. He went over 3 years without scoring in the league for us.

I genuinely think you lot can do better.
We had a decent sized bid rejected for him when he was 21.

2 competent left backs? Christ, we haven't had a competent left back since James Meredith and he left us over 5 years ago.

Aye you were after James Jones too at the same time. We accepted for Jones (around £400K) but he failed a medical at your place. Club held out for more money for Ainley (believe it was £350K with significant add ons you bid) and in truth I'd have sold him there and then.

I always rated Jones and felt sorry for him that he didn't get his big move. He regressed with us after that sadly. Ainley though you dodged a bullet. I genuinely believe he'll be in part time football in 2 years.

Playing 280 games for Crewe looks good on paper, but it's often a sign a player is bang average with us. Our best players usually play 140-180 games and get a big move. Chesterfield's assistant manager said he showed "some great touches" but any footballer can do that. End product is the name of the game and Ainley's output is incredibly underwhelming to say the least.

Jones has been decent for us. Can blow a bit hot and cold but he's incredibly fit. Will run for days.

Really good player and was a shining light in some very bad seasons for us when he broke into the team.

Very happy hes got over his injury issues. Could never doubt his effort or commitment with us.

James Ball signing from Rochdale confirmed. That's 10 in now. Suspect there'll be some leaving fairly soon.
Ball is a really odd one. Came in from Solihull with a good reputation as a box to box midfielder, and initially, he did quite well.
Then, he got injured, and went on an ill advised "lads holiday" during last Summer, which seems to have completely ruined his work ethic and attitude to any sort of career.

Fell out of favour with Managers, other players and most importantly the vast majority of supporters last season, to the point where his position became almost untenable at Rochdale. Seldom have I witnessed (from players and fans alike) such a hostile stance.

I think most Dale fans would have gladly driven him to any club willing to take him from us, but somewhere, in the depths of my mind, I think there could be a decent player there....provided he keeps his gob shut and buckles down to some hard work.

I totally believe Harris when he says Gills don’t have a top 7 budget, in fact I bet Morecambe have bigger…

We’ve signed Tom Nixon on loan from Hull, absolutely know idea why we’ve signed another defender unless we’ve an injury that hasn’t been disclosed yet. Also I have zero knowledge about him

Too many new players for Gills to bed in I’m afraid. Lukey Williams and his well-gelled Pies will be 15 points clear before Harris knows his best XI

I know you’re not being entirely serious, but we’ve signed 4 players. One of whom we’ve had on loan during the previous two seasons.

He has young kids and since Millwall is just down the road from Gillingham, he probably won't need to move and disrupt his family.

5 I think PUB. We signed Ogie from Orient last week.

Thought I might have forgotten someone when I posted that, still miles off AFCW’s ten signing though

I see rumours on your forum about Gills wanting Marquis. Another Millwall connection. We havent heard anything but we never do until its announced with Barton

Marquis is a strange one.
Never really done much anywhere except for with us when he scored pretty freely.
Wouldn’t be certain to start ahead of Nichols and Hawkins though.
Decent competition if he did come, but
I doubt there’s anything in it as our fans seem to link us with anyone that has played for us previously.

I think he would be a good signing for anyone in L2.
I didnt rate him when he first came in but he gradually improved and ended up with 9 goals, which is decent considering half his 36 appearances were off the bench

See, you’ve already lost count. They’ll all be wearing name badges whilst we’ve got a well drilled fluid 3-2-2-2-1 system

I’m not sure name badges will be allowed because of the notoriously bad reputation of safety pins.

If you played that formation though I’d think we’d need some wingers
