Great signing that is for Carlisle. When he came on for Wigan against us at VP last season he almost single-handedly pulled them back into the game. Carlisle gunning for the title next season then.

For Bradford with Cook there you’d think it would have been more a luxury signing as not sure you’d be playing both them alongside each other often.

Aye. Wouldn't be a guaranteed starter here and you can't have someone on £6k a week sat on the bench.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
My bigger question I was meant to ask is do Carlisle really need to waste that money on Wyke.

I’d say he’s probably the new highest L2 earner in the division, it rubbishes that claptrap from Simpson we had a lower midtable budget this season.

But we do have forwards who may well hit running at this level and lack massively creativity.

If I was going to lump out the L2 wage of the season I’d be looking for some real creativity, another Moxon type.

A great creative player may bring the best back out of someone like Armstrong

Think it is a good signing for Carlisle but doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad miss for us, although there is no evidence we were actually in for him it was denied at every turn, more a fans led thing. As others have said we already have Cook and some decent young lads supporting him who contributed big time to our 6 wins in our last 7 games, plus Young is now back fully fit and raring to go he's been a part of videos and marketing gimmicks so he seems up for it after last season.

I wish Wyke well, loved the guy when he was here, but no meltdown. I stupidly went on Twitter first however, and yep Carlisle fans are busy on our hashtag instead of enjoying the news. I'll be giving it a break for a while.

For me he’s not the same as Luke Armstrong.

Wyke is the pure 9 target man type where as Armstrong seems to want to run in behind. They can certainly play together for sure. But as Bigdave says we need to sign a couple of players who will supply them.

The back and forth between our two fanbases is the main reason I don’t go on Twitter anymore. Even if you don’t follow the accounts the algorithm ensures you see it all. I’m sure it’s teenagers but it’s boring and tedious.

You were saying? :smug:

I'd say Wyke will be the highest earner in League Two this season and he's hands down the best striker as in all honesty he should be playing for a top end L1 club. Unless he's playing for us of course, the best and most considerably rich club in this league. :cool1:

At the time I was right, he wasn’t coming here.

for every 50 names you throw around you get 1 right, so keep going.

Alfie May to Birmingham is all but confirmed - even though our board said last summer that he had no resale value, we stll put in a 15% sell on.

Birmingham are paying him at least 3 times what Charlton paid him for us.

No fucking resale value!!!

Be a decent signing if true.

I think we only played him in his proper position once or twice because of injuries in the final third of the pitch last season. Not really a signing that worked out, he lacks a bit of physicality and speed of thought for L1 level but by all accounts he had a decent loan spell at Colchester, where we assumed he'd end back up at (as did most Colchester fans by the sounds of it!).

He's out of contract next summer as well.

Started off okay for us but after Kennedy got the push, Skubala came in and Smith was then asked to play in numerous positions that really didn’t work out. When he got loaned to Colchester it looked like he would struggle to get back into the squad and with us signing 3 in midfield recently, the writing was on the wall for Ali.

No disrespect but I think he will do ok in his year loan for Wimbledon a league lower. I really don’t expect he will pull a shirt on for us at SB again. Hope he does well for you guys.

Ben Amos formerly of Wigan signed to be our backup keeper unless Ripley is offski somewhere.

Moore says it’s to make real competition for the number one spot with Ripper so should be interesting. Decent pedigree, happy with that.

My inside source tells me that Moore doesn't really rate Ripley, so this hasn't come as a shock. Amos won't have come to sit on the bench. Another good signing....on paper.

Wyke is as good a signing as you'll make at this level. The only niggle is over fitness but he's easily a league 1 striker. Carlisle need to back this up now with 2 or 3 more decent incoming.

Rumour of another incoming that our fans are assuming is the return of the Rolls Royce centre half Connor Hall… not sure it is and it could be anyone named Hall but if that one is true I’d be buzzing.

Why? He wasn't very good for Colchester?

Can’t judge him on that as didn’t see him there but for us he was outstanding at this level.

I'm just not a big fan of bringing ex players back.

Loans, yes, but not permanents.

Connor Hall rejoins from Col U, undisclosed fee.

Brilliant! I'm just torn as I loved him to bits but resigning ex players never usually works out and I don't want his reputation being tarnished. Fingers crossed we get the Connor Hall we all know and love as that would be an excellent addition.

Seriously impressive window for us.

I know all signings at this level are a bit of a lottery and players can be great at one club and poor for another, but Hall was generally a huge let down for us. Came with a lot of fanfare from Port Vale fans and he was a total liability most of the time. Looked ok for the first five months alongside Luke Chambers, but last season he took on the role of captain and had a shocker of a season - uncomfortable on the ball, costly mistakes every other week and arguing with fans. His only 'leadership' I ever really saw was that he felt the need to shout and point at his head about concentrating after every goal we scored.

Can't imagine many will be too disappointed to see him go.
