Must admit . I do remember them in the First Division. In fact wer'nt they top for one week ?
I'm knocking on but it was before I got interested in football. I've always kept half an eye on them because my dad's from Cumbria if never really a Carlisle fan, it was his team rather than the Barrow, Workington side of the county although he still thinks of himself more of a Westmorland man than a Cumbrian.

We've signed Omar Bogle as we have to sign exactly one player from Newport every summer now. I know his career has been mixed but I'm pretty happy with that.
Never impressed me at all. He comes across as sulky and trouble too?

Truthfully, I can’t recall ever seeing him play. I know I have, I just can’t remember. Which tells you everything you need to know really.

Although, I was sad enough to check his performances of recent years. I had no idea he notched 19 goals for Newport the season before last. He’s quite clearly capable, but I do wonder whether you’re right when it comes to his attitude.

Just heard this morning it's Ross County.
Good, shouldn't be spending significant money on a 27 year old utility player. As Stockport fans have pointed out, you can likely find far better for your money.

Someone on our forum saying that one of our strikers is off to Carlisle. No idea on what basis or who. Could feasibly be Waters, or Dalby or Bickerstaff.

Bickerstaff sounds like the sort of name that should be playing for Carlisle.

Langstaff having a medical at Millwall according to O'Rourke. Hoping he's as unreliable as many seem to think but as others have said there's been a lot of smoke recently.

Honestly, if Notts County cash in a 27 year old Langstaff and maybe parlay a chunk of that fee into Michael Mellon, who on his stint at Morecambe could easily score 25+ goals, then it's great business for them.

That decision to give him the captaincy though, oof.

Don’t for a second think giving him the captaincy is some sort of faux pas from the club. I don’t think they intended on selling him but everyone’s got a price and maybe it’s actually got us a few more pennies out of the deal.

Depressing though even if it’s the right thing to do. The money just needs to be invested in a new striker quickly or the locals will get restless. Annoyingly someone like Tolaj would have been the sort of profile I’d expect us to bring in.

If we really only have got 6 figures for him then I will lob myself in the Trent however

I highly doubt we'd only get 6 figures for him. It will be over a million for sure

Macca is too nice for Millwall. Not sure it's a great fit or move for him

27 and unproven above League 2 unlikely it will be 7 figures unless there’s a decimal place

I think even the way they spoke about it at the time - "leadership group" etc - I reckon the players and staff knew there was always a chance of this happening. Definitely better for it to happen now than in late August.

Assuming we will spend some of the money on a replacement, I do wonder if we will go for someone who is capable of playing a bit deeper as Langstaff did at times last season. I hope we get chance to see him play at ML again.

On the fee, really it matters what the add ons are, I don't think Alfie May going for a similar fee has helped our cause. He's older obviously but proven at a higher level. I do think that based on the fact pretty much nothing comes out of Notts these days, Millwall have likely leaked it and will have made it sound more favourable for them.

Unproven, naturally, but let's be honest the signs are very good. Last two seasons he's the league top scorer, scores over 40 in NL (record) and then 28 in his first season at L2 level. Someone at Championship is going to gamble.

I'd take a million plus small sell on. Disappointed if less. Whatever the fee he cost £50k, if he goes nowhere then he's still a stunning signing#supercomputer

I like your comparison to Alfie, but be grateful he went this season as the money we got for him last summer was an absolute travesty!!

I understand how you feel but he’s the wrong age without ever playing at a higher level for a club to take a 7 figure gamble on

Maybe. What is the limit for a 27 year old? £750K?

Vardy was 25 and went for over £1m from Non league and that was 12 years ago. The football inflation has been BIG since then.

Either way we can't lose.

Whether or not he’s worth more is pure conjecture (although you’re only worth what people are willing to pay), I think what isn’t is that his price isn’t going up, teams will want to pay less the further into his 20s he gets and from a production standpoint, he can’t really do more than he has in the last 2 seasons.

We'll find out if he's gone by Tuesday when we play Alfreton. I expect him to go now, it seems inevitable.
He's been great for us, one of those players you only sign once a decade if you're lucky.
We lost Wootton, Rodriguess and Cal Roberts, who at the time was one of our top three assets and got over all of them, recruitment has been consistently good overall and although we'll have to play differently I think we'll get over the loss again.
We've run the legs off Langstaff and like Matty Palmer and Kyle Wootton at some point he's going to get an injury that keeps him out for months on balance of probability. Wootton got his at Stockport after leaving us.
You never want to see a player injured but it does happen and I think it's probably time to cash out.

Apparently one of our trialists on Friday night was Courtney Baker-Richardson. He apparently played in the second half and scored 2, but I barely watched it because of the rain so wouldn't have noticed.

Thoughts on him Crewe fans?

Not a Crewe fan but I have always thought CBR was half decent. Biggest problem seems to be getting him fit enough for long enough but that may be just my perception

Burton’s transfer policy this summer looks fraught at best

I really like him, although the second half of last season wasn't great - I'm convinced he was playing through injury for most of last season as he looked slower and wasn't throwing himself around as much as he used to.

He's big and will win headers in both boxes - we quite often brought him on when we trying to preserve a lead as he would often head everything away when we're defending set pieces. He's capable of some absolutely spectacular goals as well as some more poacher-style goals. He's usually pretty hard-working and unselfish too, I know some Newport fans felt like Telford wouldn't have scored half as many if he wasn't playing alongside CBR. However, he did pick up quite a lot of injuries over his 2 years with us, and he's not as good at holding the ball up as I'd hope someone of his size and strength would be - although he's good in the air in terms of attacking and defending crosses, he often doesn't win the header if it's hit long to him. He wasn't particularly quick to begin with and looked even slower in the last few months of last season.

He's an interesting personality too - he's a bit eccentric and is not afraid to stick up for himself/team mates if fans are giving stick.

We offered him a new deal but I think he was holding out for a bit more money and I'm pretty sure that offer has been withdrawn now that we've signed 2 new strikers.

In short, if you can keep him properly fit, he's a good L2 level striker.

Apparently, AFCW are closing in on a deal for Lewis Ward, who has left Charlton and previously played for Swindon. Looks like he'll be backup as he's hardly played since leaving Exeter in 2021.

Any Swindon fans remember him or what he was like??

Inflation has been big at the top end and at Championship and even L1 level but I don't think that has necessarily trickled down to L2/NL level. Langstaff's record is obscene though and it wouldn't surprise me to see a club splash a very decent fee on him as strikers and goals fetch the big bucks.

The inflation will lessen as you down the pyramid but surely the increased values spent by PL clubs naturally filters down through the leagues. As they pay more for Championship players meaning those clubs can spend more on L1/L2 players.

I think the other part that’s often neglected as well is that he’s the top earner at the club since he signed his contract extension so it frees up a decent % of the budget as well which should be factored in (he’s on £4k per week if you believe the rumours)

Yes, these are coping mechanisms

OK L2 keeper. Pretty useless at distribution, though.
